It's not uncommon for developers of indie PC games to hope that their creations will ultimately make it to consoles. Cloud Imperium Games holds out no such hope for Star Citizen, however, and in fact Eric "Wingman" Peterson says it couldn't be done anyway, because consoles, including the Xbox One and PlayStation 4, simply don't have the power to drive the game.

At its core, the divide between consoles and the PC is fairly straightforward: Consoles offer out-of-the-box simplicity and compatibility, while PCs are all about screaming performance, limited only by income and your determination to use it. In most cases it's an academic difference that has no real impact on which games are released on which platforms, but Star Citizen apparently isn't "most games."

Good to see a developer not willing to downgrade their product for extra cash in the pocket.

After playing some of the flight demo and dogfighting module I can see where a console would likely choke on this.

I think it'll be cool in 2015. Right now it's mostly just a website community, weekly newscasts and a bunch of dev info.

I'm in for about $330, but that's where I'll stop unless they bring back LTI.  I can't guarantee that I'll have the time to keep up insurance on more than the two ships that I have.  Still, I'm most excited about running a private server with friends.
