What really makes this bad is that you can't say "the heck with it" and go to a competitor being as no one else has anything like it with all the features of the Swift.  At least not yet...

yah that's a bummer.  If this were EVGA I have a feeling that the US would have priority over Asia and Europe.

I looking forward to Acer's Gsync monitor as well as BenQ.

Acer has that 4k 60hz Gsync monitor and I'm not sure if Benq will go 1440P. the XL2702G is suppose to be 1080p.

I spoke with Steve and Paul(newegg) on twitter, they said that they will most likely have a pre-order or be selling the swift.

I bought the ASUS VG248QE(NVIDIA G-SYNC)  with the Gsync module installed from Digital storm. they have great customer service!. I'll most likely end up buying it from them.

you cannot do that with G-sync yet, although Nvidia has stated that they will bring it to life with G-sync.

Nice. I purchased an ASUS PB278Q 27" 2560x1440 WQHD display a week or three ago - very nice unit. Not much more than half the price of the new model by the OP, but it's 60Hz not 120Hz.. Actually EVGA paid for it, thanks to the ModsRigs win.

Yeah I noticed in BF4 a very few places where it got a little jerky (not badly, but I noticed it), just too much going on I guess, but smooth as butter on GW2. 100% sRGB, great for Photoshop, video etc. though.

Why is this expensive monitor being hyped?  If the only way anyone can explain the big deal is to bring up the specs I've already seen, you have already failed; they don't speak for themselves since I don't even need the specs.  How about you guys try boycotting your favorites so that companies will lower prices to fight for your dollars then I can actually afford it someday?

Also, don't justifying paying so much, some of you come off as sounding like Titan Z owners.  You could get multiple smaller high-Hz displays for less cash like three ASUS 24" 1080p 144Hz display for $280, and get more total resolution area than just one PG278Q for the same price.  So much hypocrisy in here.

because this is a high TN grade 8bit color panel with Gsync and the only one with 1440P. This monitor has a lot of first time for " " involved.

It is the best gaming monitor to date. The price is a little high but you get what you pay for mostly.

Irony; don't complain when something is out of your range, but you will.  I'm not sure how I sound entitled when complaining about the price but not needing the specs, perhaps you're getting defensive?

lehpron, I typically enjoy reading your posts as they're pretty informative and well thought out.  But I have a couple problems with this one.

This monitor is being '"hyped" and is a "big deal" because of it's specs and features for those who are looking for these things.  It's also (all specs & features combined), a one of a kind monitor currently.  But since as you state, "I don't even need the specs", no one will be able to "explain the big deal" to you.  Yet you'd like us to boycott it now so in the future "I can actually afford it someday".

Buying three displays as you mentioned above isn't a comparison to me.  I prefer a single 27" display, not three 24" displays.  I also prefer the higher refresh rate along with 1440P, and then top all of it off with Gsync.  This is the only game (almost) in town with these features and specs.

So would I buy a Titan Z?  No way.  I can enjoy my games "the way I want" with a less expensive GPU.  Will I buy this monitor?  Most likely.  It fits "what I'm looking for" perfectly, and there is nothing less expensive with all the same specs and features.

Re: Asus ROG SWIFT PG278Q 2014/07/28 14:50:34 (permalink)
Firstly, I don't want multiple smaller monitors.  I want one high resolution monitor with all of the technologies listed in the OP.  I don't want to replace my 24" with another 24" - it has to prove superior given its specs and it does, not only on paper but in reviews.

What interests me most?:

- The 8-bit TN panel.  I've been researching a few monitors and none of them interest me except this one because several reviews pointed to dull colors on the others.
- WQHD with 1ms response time
- 144Hz max refresh rate
- G-sync

If you don't think much of this monitor then so be it.  I'm getting one because the price is justified.

Not buying the monitor odds are, but I would consider it on the basis of I don't want a multiple monitor setup unless it's for a simulator after acquiring a cockpit at some undetermined point in the future.

The bezels on every multiple monitor setup continue to annoy me, no matter how much time I've spent with such setups. Maybe projectors, but that would be even more obnoxious than wishing for a large slightly curved higher resolution display.

I don't get it. I've seen on news/tech sites etc those phone displays that can be bent and twisted without issue, and they appear to have zero bezel. Why can't that bevel-less technology be applied to a full size desktop display? The only 'legit' reason I've seen so far is that desktop sized displays can be damaged too easily if they don't have a reasonably strong bezel, and manufacturers would lose money on warranty claims. So how about a super thin titanium bezel then? Strengthen the material to reduce the volume? Maybe the process is too expensive to make an acceptable profit margin? Whatever the reason, I'm sure that when some company finally does come out with a retail desktop display with no bezel, they're going to make an absolute killing being first to market... everybody and their brother is going to want one.

oh man! so lucky! We're all eagerly awaiting pre-order listings in the US.
Tell us all about it once you get it dialed in.

I look forward to hearing your thoughts on the monitor after you've checked it out a bit...

Whatever the reason, I'm sure that when some company finally does come out with a retail desktop display with no bezel, they're going to make an absolute killing being first to market... everybody and their brother is going to want one.

even for the phone industry those flex screens are still not being sold to consumers. When they are we are faces with the challenge that our monitors are much larger and these flex screen are not that durable still require a bezel. samsung made a flex screen tv and it required a bezel. then you have the backlight and it needs to be housed and monitor backlight are a lot larger than a phones. finally we don't kniw the gtg response or anything else. flex screens may not be suitable for gaming or industrial work so the market is small for new tech to be introduced.
