Tossing around an idea:

A simple heatsink to pull the heat off the rear ram.  The debate is out on whether to use a pin matrix, or fin matrix.

Thoughts?

Gave me 2 ideas I like pin array idea best over fins and then I was thinking hell nobody sees the top plate as its always facing down these backplates could be customized sorry about my **** Microsoft paint skills in advance

Here I was thinking to do some passive cooling on the backside of the gpus with some thick thermal pads

But heck it all looks excellent whichever way you decide to do it I'm amazed by your quick progress

I was guessing the RAM doesn't really get all that hot since the manufacturer didn't deem it necessary to cool them, but I think its certainly an option if you want to take it to the next level.

Fin matrix at the most.., less machine time , and probably no significant temperature difference because of the lower thermal envelope (Btu output) from ram.

PS, what software are you using for your cad/cam now ?

Nope.  Its sandblasted copper.  It is being leak tested right now.

yeahhhh! I'm also really glad you didn't do that ram cooling backplate piece it would have interfered with my ram (the gpu ram doesn't like being overclocked either). My one and only complaint is the time spent but duty calls what a long project

I have been watching this thread for some time. I am new to the fourms but have been a EVGA user and member for a few years. I am very interested in having once of these waterblocks made for me. Just need to know a price.

Are you up to making another one of these or was this a one time deal. I have this card and I am very interested in watercooling it. It's a great card but it runs way to hot with this stock cooler.

I would be interested in one of these waterblocks if you are still making them. Curious as to the pricing to make one.

Re:GTX 460 2WIN Full Coverage waterblock *NEW - UPDATED* 2014/07/26 17:17:33 (permalink)
That's awesome.  Have you guy's taken a look at what is the cause of poor cooling performance on the 2win?  It's clear the exhaust port is restricted to 1/2 the size of normal.  How is the VRM cooling?  Can you upload a pic of the mating surfaces of the stock 2WIN cooler?

It's clear is needs a custom back-plate.  One made from pure copper, drill holes to mount as normal and cover the entire back side of the pcb with thermal interface material pad.  One large cut of thermal material cover 100% of the back side of the PCB.  I have seen this method on gpu's like the GTX 400 series to reduce load vrm/ core/ memory/ and pcb temps as much as 25C reduction alone.

When applying paste to the gpu core's you want that entire core diode covered with 1/4mm of Arctic Silver Ceramique 2 since it's not electrically conductive and very thermally conductive.  You have to spread it across each core diode evenly.  Then you will see temps at 78C at 900mhz and nibitor in P15 at 1.125v true stable at 900Mhz.  It can do it at 1.100v but isn't a true-stable, the kind of stable that you can rest assured it will not crash no matter how many hours it's running.  I have my 2win on air with a bit of modding at 900Mhz per gpu at 1.125v in P15 nibitor nvflashed.
