Hi, guys.

I had one of my 680 FTW+ cards go bad on me and RMAed it (including checking that it was used in an SLI setup). It was replaced with a 770 FTW card. Model numbers are 04G-P4-3687-KR (the 680) and 04G-P4-3776-KR (the 770).

They have the same amount of VRAM though clocked slightly differently, and it's my understanding that they use the same GPU (also clocked somewhat differently), but that the firmware is a little different.

So the question is: Can I SLI these cards without issue?

Thanks.

    I don't think so.  >>  https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/469402/

EDIT:  After looking closer at the two cards specs, primarily the Vram and bus width, you may have a shot at SLI'ing.  And with what EVGA tech support says, they'll RMA your other 680 if it doesn't.  Sounds like you can't lose...

Since both cards meet all the necessary requirements to enable SLI I don't see why it wouldn't work.
"Note: Although some cards in the 6 and 7 series can do SLI, these cards have been omitted due to age." I'm sure they were referring to these 2 models although you may run into an issue due to a difference in firmware on the card. In either case, if you cannot get them to work we can assist with an RMA on your other 680 to match it with your new 770.

Well what I read on the Geforce link , YES -same Vram size, same gpu, same last letters in series 680 (KS),770 (KS). Myself would call EVGA tech support for verification. !-888-881-3842 for U.S.A.

    Thanks a lot, guys.

Will test it out and see how it goes (just got the 770 in today).

EVGA support has been top notch in all ways the few times I've needed help with anything and during the RMA of my 680. So of course, thanks for that too.

If I am able to get these cards working in SLI, do you know if I might still be able to get my older 680 card replaced with another of these 770s so that they can match up clock for clock if syncing them, etc? Also, (bit of the OCD here) aesthetically speaking, it would be nice to have matching cards.

Either way, thanks again, guys. Will let you know how it goes.

Johnny 5, even though we can't guarantee SLI will work with both of these cards, you do have approximately 30 days to decide and notify us if you would like to RMA your remaining 680 FTW. Please contact Support@evga.com for further assistance should you want to proceed with a replacement.

Exactly.  It might appeal to the modder in you to make them work, but in the end, it's better to make sure the cards are the same.

Thanks for the help and suggestions, guys.

Haven't gotten a chance to test out if I can get SLI to work on it or not with it not being on my main rig and having a day job and all. (Gotta pay for these computer bits somehow.)

I'm going to contact the provided e-mail and give them my info to see if I can RMA my other 680 FTW+ card to get a matching set of the 770 FTW cards.

Thanks again guys. Will let you know how it goes.

The answer is no, they will not run in SLI together. While they are similar, the GPU is a different revision and the device ID are not the same. While there is some slim chance (not that I've found on the net) get around this flashing a custom BIOS. You're far better off IMO, taking EVGA's offer of another matching GPU.

This is the best thing you can do. As they have expressed their willingness to RMA the other 680 take them up on it and this way you will ensure that SLI will work now and in the future with newer drivers and features.

Best of luck, not that you would need it as EVGA has proven to me vicariously through other posts from other members in the short time i have been here that they keep their word.

Yes, confirming that SLI won't work with the different firmware on the boards as tested last night.

I had contacted EVGA support last night as well before even confirming that SLI wouldn't work with the stock firmwares.

All I did was send them one e-mail explaining everything and they went ahead and set up an RMA for my remaining 680 FTW+ card to be replaced with another 770 FTW card. They even offered to pay for shipping and went ahead and sent me a UPS shipping label as well. Pretty awesome.

EVGA certainly does do a great job of taking care of their customers and though I haven't needed any additional convincing, I will definitely continue looking at EVGA first and over other vendors when getting graphics cards and likely other peripheral devices here and there. (Would like to pick up some nicer SLI bridges than the ones that came with my motherboard, for example.; just haven't gotten around to it yet.)

Well, I guess it was worth a shot.  Even if only for peace of mind and now knowing it's a no go...

Glad to hear EVGA is taking care of you as stated they would above.  Enjoy your new SLI setup...

I did not think you could SLI with 2 different chips. I know that they can be different brands.

Yes, but it's my understanding that they use the same GPUs, just clocked a little differently and with different firmware/BIOS. For example, I've heard that you can in effect convert a 680 to a 770 by changing the firmware on the 680.

Either way, it's a moot point for me now.
