Its like asking an artist how to paint a painting.

Your best bet is to read up and search guides online, and get a basic idea of what your up against before making any changes.

It will be similar to your current board.

Safe bet is 4.7  = 47 ratio   and a vcore of 1.25 provided you keep using the  Swiftech H20-220

I skip away from Ocing 2years never touched it since I got z77.
The thing is I disabled all C states but it keep down clock @ 4G and some major stuff need to be adjust to get over4.5 fool me :-)) ! this is the first time I hang around with UEFI bios.
1 more thing I wondered  is this z97 FTW the main board power supply has only one 8 pin instead of 2 , also the eleet doesn't show the memory and Ocing state ?.
So wonder this time evga support doesn't post the Ocing guide for Z97... ???  :-(
Thanks for your answer anyway !

    No, its not the mobo.

The problem is it is an advanced mobo, not noob friendly.

Not noob as in overclocking, just getting used to all the features.

What are your temps?   using prime 95?

Which version of prime you use?

How much core voltage you using?

Hello guys, I don't have the EVGA Z97 board, but I have done 2 OC's on this chipset with the 4790k. What I noticed is that you don't need to mess with the settings too much. Leave as much on auto as possible to get a quick compatibility overclock, than start changing some things to tweak stability. For me, the sweet spot was everything on auto, set the ration to 47 (for a 4.7 OC) and set the voltage to 1.28 - 1.3 and see if it boots, and if it does what temp is it putting out and if it's stable.

I can't stress enough to be sure to have the latest bios update, and always always always reset the bios and load optimized settings after a bios update. Also, be sure to set your ram to MANUAL with MANUAL voltage and MANUAL timings (to whatever your factory default is). If the OC is stable with that voltage start lowering the voltage until you induce instability. Post your results meanwhile I'll look for a tut online for ya.

I used to use prime 95. Recently have not tested yet because I try to figure out how to get it stay fixed at 4.7g first. Normally you disable EIST and all C states to get this but anytime those are disabled cpu speed drops down always at 4g . I don't know this mobo was designed as it or still have bugs ??? or the next bios will fix it??
Current run @ 4.7/ vcore 1.290v with Vdrop " disable ", leaving at auto I got blue screen sometime  , temp at idle 32c ( because of can not get it always stay at highest speed so don't know what its real  temp ). When playing game BF2 temp swing from 50c - 70c.
    Memory - Team Xtream 2660Mhz : manual set as factory : 11-13-13-35-2T / 1.65v
Do you know how to set cpu speed fixed ?

Thanks for you guys helps ! appreciated !

You don't have to disable EIST or anything else to overclock. The 4790k is really picky from my experience, so try what I said. I don't own this motherboard, but looking at the manuals, you go to the overclock tab, set the "CPU Multiplier Control" to manual, and set "CPU Multiplier Setting", Core "1 - 4 Ratio" and the "Non Turbo Ratio Override" to 47 (for a 4.7Ghz OC), leave the "Ring Ratio" on auto. Go to the CPU Voltage Control and set it to override @ 1.27-1.3V (you need to test this yourself).

Again, I don't have this MOBO so I'm not 100% sure on those. Before you try this, reset your bios, load optimized settings and SAVE. Once you restart after saving it, go back into the bios and start you OC. Only OC your CPU for now, and be sure to set the memory to factory timing and voltage (don't rely on XMP profiles).

Another trick is not to set your memory to its rated speed, these mobos wont do it with haswells as they are picky to ram speed.

I run 2400 at 2000 on one rig, and 2200 on another to gain stability.

At the 'Non Turbo Ratio Override " by default is set at " 40 " , so I cant not set it to " 47 " ( this section only decrease number can not increase over 40 ). So my board has problem  or bios 1.04  ??? am I missing something ?
