What games are you going to be playing?

IMO it's not really that good, cpu & gpu are quite old.
    I'm assuming that it's a pre-built pc, correct?

it was a computer on the floor for display in a computer shop, purchased in 2012. The games I play are Diablo III, World of Tanks, World of Warcraft. Should I go with a motherboard and cpu combo with a i7 cpu? and I was looking into a gtx 760 gpu.

i7's are unnecessary for gaming, i'd get an i5 and put the extra money into a nice gpu eg. gtx 770.

As the other poster mentioned, that is not the best system and is a bit outdated.  What is the cost?  If it is really cheap, could always upgrade the CPU and/or GPU to increase the performance.  Personally I am not a fan of AMD processors though, sure they are cheaper, but the performance just isn't there.  You specifically mention some games such as WoW and World of Tanks that are definitely more CPU dependent than GPU, so you will want to get the best CPU you can for the money.  What is your budget?

Give us a more specific budget (my definition of very high may not be what you had in mind).

Yeah, that PC is behind... The i7 4790K is the CPU i'd go with right now, especially if you have a microcenter around. For the motherboard, i'd probably get the Asus Z97 board. For the video card, i'd go with a GTX 760 or a GTX 780 if you can afford it.

my budget will about 2,000 or so, could be higher if needed. I am looking for a good mobo , cpu and gpu, if the price goes any higher then that , then ill have to go higher. Saw this bundle in Newegg :

GIGABYTE GA-Z97X-Gaming 5 ATX Intel Motherboard
Intel Core i7-4790K 4.0GHz LGA 1150 Desktop Processor for $459.98.

This gpu : EVGA SuperClocked w/ ACX Cooling 02G-P4-2774-KR GeForce GTX 770 2GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 SLI Support Video Card  for $349.99 . I hope this is a very nice combo.

wait for X99, and spend it on X99 board, DDR4, and 5820K, and GTX 880 or GTX 880Ti

Yeah, if your i7 4790K is going to cost you that much, you will definitely want to just wait for the i7 5820K that should be out within 2 months or so.

with that 2k budget I'd just wait until the next best thing comes along. I'd pick up a 5820k some ddr4 and use the gtx 560 until the newer GTX 800 series come out. This way you will have the latest available to you. Not like you are too starved for more power given the games you told us you play.

I don't think the i7 is necessary as other have said.  I have a i5 3750k, z77 board and a GTX660.  I use v-sync and World of Tanks pretty much stays a 60fps all the time.  I can't speak for the other games you specified but WoT only uses one core right now but even so, I can still play and watch a HD stream via a homerun prime with zero issues.  I don't keep up with AMD but a benchmark site shows it's just a bit lower than my CPU.   I guess if you want to do your upgrades in steps, just get a GPU and I think you'd be happy with the results.

Not listing hardware in my rig. While proud of my
build, don't feel others care what I have and seem like bragging to me when you do.

From a cost standpoint, upgrading to a FX 8350 is a great idea if your motherboard will support it.  It's a better than decent CPU for gaming, and probably the cheapest option you have for the CPU/Motherboard/RAM side.

At that point, you have options with a GPU if you want to splurge now or wait until later.  If you want to play the waiting game, I think upgrading to a FX 8350 would be a great idea and will definitely last you until you decide on a newer build.  If you also want to save on money, but get a GPU, AMD isn't a terrible route to go, but a GTX 660 or GTX 760 are also great choices.

DRR4 is gonna cost an arm once it comes out until it becomes mainstream. And I'm not sure waiting 2 months for an extra 2 or 3 avg fps in games is a good thing. Just grab an i5 4670K, 16GB of DDR3 and a GTX780Ti. That'll allow you to max out most games at 1080p (at the very least the ones you named).

The power supply you are using now will run your build fine. For long term and stability you would want to try at least 950W. You can never go wrong with EVGA SuperNOVA series.
here is a good guide to read before you decide
    Hope this help
