My last post wasn't so much about bunkering.  It was in fact the furthest thing from my mind.  My post was that points aren't why I think the POTM is important.  It was more that the POTM allows the COTM to pick their favorite project and we can all contribute to that project as a congrats to the COTM winner.

Bunkering is a whole 'nother subject and that I leave to those that wish to discuss said stuff.  Me I wanted to just say it's a way we can involve the team if they want in a project they may not of heard of, contributed to or even thought about.  A way to opens one's eyes if you will to what is around us.

OK Then, so are we or are we not bunkering as a Team?

I think that's something best left up to each person to decide. I don't do bunkering myself since I run one client and generally have two different GPU projects and one CPU project running at the same time. So trying to bunker one would mess up the other two.

The one aspect of bunkering I really dislike is when people grab a whole pile of WU's and then they don't get them all ran for the contest then just aborts them instead of running them when its over. That or they take a big pile of WU's with no intention of running them, just to keep some one else from getting them, and then abort them once the contest finishes.

I have a rule I follow. Only take as many WU's as I need and run everything I take. I rarely abort any WU. When I do its always because of a technical issue with the WU's themselves or a problem with Boinc.

OK Then, It looks like it is up to each person to decide whether or not to bunker.

I made the announcement over on the Seti forums letting them know we will be paying them a visit to crunch up all their Work Units.

I know the actual Seti contest does not start until the 15th but I am going to put some numbers up to show where we started out at on the 1st of the month and maybe toss a update up once a week or so. Due to real life issues, here at home, I can't commit to doing it daily and getting it done as it should be.

Seti@Home standings for the start of August 2014

Free DC: 857 (15,786,220 points)
Formula Boinc: 42 (7,802,360 points for the year, 0 FB points)
The Vault: 128 (9,863.69 Vault points)
Seti@Home internal rankings: RAC 189th place, Total Score 845.

I have been running Seti for the last several days and there are a few things you all should keep in mind. You have the option of running two different applications, well actually three but the SETI@home Enhanced application has not had any work for months. Of the two that do have work you have a choice of SETI@home v7 and AstroPulse v6 applications. Of the two the AstroPulse v6 are the better point return. The only catch is the fact that every one that runs Seti regularly knows this and grabs the AP application tasks up as fast as they show up on the server. So keep alert for them.

You can run either of the two applications on a CPU but the run times are going to be substantially longer than a GPU. I suspect most will opt for the GPU crunching and either run something else on their CPU's or even go all out and run Seti on the CPU as well. Knowing every little bit can help during a contest.

The other thing I discovered is there is a optimized applications available for Seti. They will cut down on run time and reduce the load on your CPU's assisting the GPU. I downloaded and installed them myself and noticed a 20 to 25 percent drop in run times and my CPU use went from .5 to .6 ish down to .04, a significant drop. That change alone made it possible for me to crunch something else on one more CPU core than I could before installing the optimized Seti applications. If your interested you can read up and find a link to the applications in this forum discussion thread.

http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/forum_thread.php?id=71867#1375942

One thing though, if you think you might try the optimized applications do so several days ahead of time. Once you install the optimized files Seti is going to act funny until you run 11 tasks and get them verified. By funny I mean extra long estimated run times that will limit you to downloading probably one or two tasks at a time. Once you get past that process you will notice a big difference.

EDIT: added in Seti@Home internal rankings for Crunching@EVGA

Khalifrio Thanks for this update and new info about the CPU/GPU Projects.

Also can you add a link to each stat as well, that would be really cool.
I am reviewing this now to see what setting need to bet set.
I am running GPU on one Rig and CPU on another to see what the Deference is between them.
Image and or Numbers to follow. *Stock Apps Through BOINC

GPU (Titans) GK110 5 Minutes and CPU @ 4300MHz over One Hour. Start Time
Real Time for GPU 10 Minutes
Real Time for CPU 2 Hours and 15 Minutes
This would mean that my 2P and 4P may take up to 24 or more hours to complete 1 Task, this sucks.

I will run them next on my GTX 690 GK104 Rig, my 680 Rig is testing a new Driver - 340.52.

Here are some CPU & 1 GPU completed Projects

Here are some RAC estimates based on my Radeon 7950 boost @925 MHz with the Catalyst 14.4 drivers.

These were using the stock apps from the project.  I was able to run 2 AP tasks concurrently but 1 S@H task utilized most of the GPU so I kept it to 1 at a time.  AP tasks win out here too.

At some point I should install the optimized apps and benchmark again.  Now to find the time...

My 7950 @ 1100MHz takes around 4:00-7:30 mins to complete a SETI@home v7 v7.03 (opencl_ati5_cat132) wu.
GPU is only running at 89% percent though, anyone know how to fix it?

Khalifrio I should have known better. Thanks
Well it looks like if I use my 2P and 4P using only the CPU I won't complete as many as if I use my GPUs.
My Testing today on 9 GPUs brought my temps inside to 89F so as I thought it is still to hot run my GPU as my Air Unit cannot keep up.

Interesting Reading.
I've set my prime rig to Accept no more tasks, expecting it to go empty on POGS and GPUGRID by tomorrow.
Launching all SETI, see what happens.

Here they are, just for comparison.
I've got good temps on both CPU and GPU, 70-72 on CPU, and 66-68 on GPU (Celsius).
CPU WU's seem to differ some in time though, 1-3+hrs while the cuda's 2-5mins, atleast of what I have seen.

The SETI points still doesn't update my profile. Seems to be a mixup at FREE-DC and BOINC BAM statistics. I've got a duplicate user profile which show my SETI numbers. I have reported this, but no one seem to care.
No biggie though, it's just points right?

The WOW stats are correct, so challenge wise, we're good

Orange, are you saying your SETI stats aren't showing with the rest of your stats at BOINCStats? or are you saying you actually have two separate SETI stats? If it is a case where it is just SETI not with all the other projects, it is an issue with your CPID not syncing up. To fix it is easy. Take one computer and connect to SETI and a bunch of other BOINC projects you are a member of. This will sync them all to use the same CPID. We have had multiple members run into that issue. But it is relatively easy to fix.

If it is a case where you are showing two different SETI accounts, then that is pretty odd.

Thanks for the tip about connecting computers to projects.
What confused me was that after I signed up to SETI, which never showed up in my stats, I got some strange credit updates.
One day I was subtracted 89mil points. Then next day, my profile was added 94mil points.
POGS was also gone from my stats.
I found that it had been created a duplicate profile on me, both POGS and SETI had began to update this duplicate.
I found this a bit annoying, since credits in 90mil range was flowing back and forth, stirring up the team stats.
My next step was to try what you suggested, connect more computers to SETI, and see what happened.
If I understood this correct, this trick forces the updates over to existing profile with the initial/ true CPID.
I understood Sunday's are used to do major updates by the stats pages, and last Sunday, things sorted out by itself.
On weekdays, the projects update points only to the stats, but on Sunday's they do a more comprehensive update.

I still have one duplicate profile, but that one has only one retired project on the record (eOn) so it doesn't bother me.

All cool now
Thanks for your support

The 5th of the month has passed and since a lot of people are now running Seti its seems, I figured I would toss out a update on the stats for those that are interested.

All improvements in rankings are compared to where we were at on the 1st of August.

Seti@Home standings for the 5th of August 2014

Free DC: 830 (16,251,443 points, up 465,223 points from the 1st of August) Up 27 ranks!
Formula Boinc: 41 (8,267,583 points for the year, 0 FB points) Up one rank!
The Vault: 126 (9,867.88 Vault points) Up two ranks!
Seti@Home internal rankings: RAC 161st place, Total Score 823. Up 28 ranks for RAC and up 22 ranks for Total Score!

Not a bad jump in rankings after five days and keeping in mind most people have not joined since they are waiting for the actual Wow contest to begin on the 15th before doing so.

Great idea to show these numbers at this time Khali.
We have done some major jumps over there just in a few days, especially since some have just ran a few WU's to see how they goes.
Looking forward to go brutal

Good job Khali and thanks

I'm still working CR62's POG challenge since they helped us.  I'll pick up SETI on the 14th after the POGS run dry on my system.  I'll see all of you then on the battlefield.

I installed the optimized applications from Khali's post and am running a few batches of tasks to test it out.  I also set SETI to run AP tasks and then default to the other type if none are available.  Thanks for helping me get SETI optimized guys!

Just a reminder, if your going to install and use the optimized applications for Seti you need to do the install a few days before the challenge. The reason being is it takes a while for you to run through 11 tasks and get them verified before the Boinc client will act normally with the optimized application installed. By act normally I mean have realistic estimated run times instead of the exaggerated ones that only let you down load one or two tasks at a time.

I signed up. Is it correct in reporting I am not a part of a team? Is that just for this event? Evidently that was just a timing issue as I signed up last week. It took a bit for it to show I am a part of our team...
