Sorry everyone I shouldn't have asked for anything.   As for find a new job.   You have any idea what the job market is in Auburn NY or the surrounding area its little to none.  Ride a bike are you serious the biggest city closest to me is a 45 minute drive now lets say I ride a bike that's atleast a 4 to 5 hour ride.   Thanks for the flames I should have expected it.  Im not a female so  asking for help is pointless.   least one person was nice enough to off to try to fix my bent pin.   I guess ill try that if that doesn't work guess im parting out my PC and probably end up selling it for under 200 since the market in my area for PC parts is little to none.  As for selling in the market place I have no heat ware nor do I have the money to pay for shipping all over the US since I can barely feed myself.  Lets not forget I have to pay over 150 dollars a month for medication just to be able to use my arms and avoid being paralyzed from the neck down.  Ill find a job eventually and do it on my own without any hand outs.  I remember a ton of members getting new PC parts when theres broke down but I guess I was born the wrong gender.  Lets not forget how many people have their X58s running at 4.2ghz because of me helping them OC.   But in the end you are all right I should ask for anything I should except my bad luck and run with it.  Ill try to sell my PC the last thing I own.  I lost the rest of my stuff in my divorce.  but its ok.  brag about your titans and x79 systems enjoy your BSOD free gaming.   Piece out.

    Crusheddream,

From someone who hit rock bottom (graduated with 120K+ in student loans for a degree in engineering that didn't get me a job and couldn't even manage to get a minimum wage job for a few months), I feel you. I had some support from family (financially) for a month or two then didn't have any money to pay off student loans or credit card debt (I thought that I was going to get a nice paying job, guess not). But at least I had a room to stay in free of rent. I myself still owe a lot of money but I'm at least going back to school now and saving up some of that financial aid money (loans) so that I can move out in the winter.

I don't personally know you, I'm sure someone else does on these forums. Honestly if I were you, I would part ways with your PC and just try to sell what you can for now. Having a gaming PC may help you relax but it seems like you really need to find a way to help your girlfriend. I don't have much money to spare, if I was debt free and living the good life and saw this, I'd be glad to help someone out in someway (whether money or help find you a job or something).

If you want my suggestion, sell your parts and buy a used laptop. Learn programming, there are a lot of free sites and some sites that charge money. You won't get a job at Apple or Google by teaching yourself programming but , if you're good at it you could do some freelance work (you'd have to have a portfolio).

    Free websites:
    http://www.learncpp.com  (C++)
    http://c.learncodethehardway.org/book/  (C)

    Paid:
http://teamtreehouse.com  ($9.99 a month for student discount if you know someone in college or $49.99 a month. They teach a lot of stuff, from iOS development, Android development, web design, frontend/backend, and starting your own business etc.)
http://www.amazon.com/Primer-Plus-Edition-Developers-Library/dp/0321776402/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1406087835&sr=8-2&keywords=primer+c%2B%2B   (Really great book. I read parts of it but I knew most of the material but they really go into detail and it's a good reference).

If you happen to get a job (probably $10-15 an hour if you're pretty decent without a degree), that should help you and your GF a lot. Now this is all from knowing nothing about you. Anyway man, I hope the best for you.

Crushed.. I was reading your post and that you said you had a bent pin on the socket, but was surprised when suddenly you were asking not for a used mobo to replace your alleged broken mobo, but a newest model Z97 board, a Intel 4670K, and 16gb (4x4gb) @ 2133mhz of corsair or any other good branded RAM!! Seriously??? That's better than many regulars have! Then I read RushXTC's post above.

    Dude, not cool.

p.s. I spent 6 months unemployed after I got through college (and I didn't get unemployment insurance), and I made looking for a job a 9-5 job in itself, Monday to Friday, 8 hours a day. I sent well over 1,000 job applications out before I got a job (which I still have 4+ years later). I didn't have a car and still don't - too expensive. Now that I do have a job I make sure I put money aside in savings every payday just in case I get in that situation again. You've only been out two weeks and you're asking for a handout not to help you get back on your feet or for bills or help with your car, but for a top of the line system so you can play games. Dude..

This is funny...  Why not go and look for a job?  Why do you need a car?  Walk or ride a bike....  Barely enough to live on?  My sister lived on 7.25 an hour in a decent apartment and still had enough money to "live"...  People don't want their luxuries gone so someone else should foot the bill....  What a world what a world...  Why do you need a Z97 board with a 4670k?  What have you done to deserve such a gift?  Every single year I get at least 2 chronic sinus infections and sometimes upper respiratory issues it really isn't that bad!  You shouldn't have slept through the alarm she is your Girlfriend not your wife if it was your wife they would have most likely made an exception or did you call?????  Anyways I do have a spare board and spare CPU here but you'd have to most definitely earn it... You can travel here and do some work for me if you'd like then the stuff is yours....  You are definitely living the high life compared to me because my bills are only $900 a month and that includes groceries...  Then again I only make $2,000 a month as a college student and save a bunch of money...  Have you sat down and looked over your finances?  You are spending money in other places that does not need to be spent...

I spent 6 months unemployed as well, Still paying for the luxuries that I CHOSE to live by... That was MY choice, Why can't people understand that just because we live in a first world country, We shouldn't live like kings...

The only difference being, I didn't have to beg anyone for anything... Because I was able to afford those "luxuries" without any hand outs.

I understood that! :) I was just adding on to make a point that if you can afford those things, Then by all means... But we must learn our place when things get tough... Whether that's with no computer or no internet (God forbid).

Edit: To be honest, I'm in a tough spot right now... I won't be able to get my supercharger until December :(!

$4,800+Install, Need to pay some credit cards before getting this beast!

Unless someone has a supercharger laying around and would like to donate... No? Okay... lol

Gaming isn't a necessity to you living, nor is it a necessity to survive. It's purely an enjoyment thing. Asking someone for handouts because life sucks sometimes is just silly. Especially since you aren't asking for essentials, but for what most would call luxuries.

Be thankful you have a roof over your head, a shelter, and some internet connection to be able to find a job.

WOW get a magnifying glass, bright light, small knife or tweezers and straighten that pin. I have done it many times on new boards bought off ebay. I have a nice gigabyte board that i fixed and no problems afterwards. Quite whinning and do something productive for a change. Probably why first wife left you ! ...

I too like a lot of other people have been on unemployment the same year I got married and the same year I just bought my house. I know how it can be. The thing is, you said your bills alone are 2K. To be blunt, you need to manage your expenses. Are these bills because of medical stuff or is that just for necessities? If that is for you utilities, car and house alone, I would consider downsizing.

As other people have mentioned, I would kill to have the system you are asking for. That board and cpu blows mine away and you are asking for double the ram that I have on any of my systems. I can understand needing to game to release stress, sort of ,but maybe you should learn to be a tad more content.
My $1900 plasma broke and I only got $100 for it. Should I ask for hand outs to build a new one? No, overcome, adapt and realize that happiness is all relative.

Yeah I was thinking the same, just an old PlayStation and a pile of games off e-bay cheap would do the trick - get your game on!
If the OP is really as desperate as he makes out and praying to God every night for help etc. etc., why isn't he parting out his system, or is his health and his g/f's health not as important as his desktop? He can buy a new system when he gets back on his feet - cheaper than 'paying back tenfold' for someone to give him a handout now.

I lost my job then a while later my GTX 670 started to artifact.  eVGA sent me 5 replacements before I got one that was stable.  But at least they pulled through (probably spent as much money with UPS as the video card cost to manufacture though..) .  The company is notorious for sending people used video cards for RMA which is kinda crappy but this one still works so yay.  They upgraded me to 4 gig but my monitor is only 1080p so I don't think the extra 2 gigs does anything who knows.

Each time I told them that even though their RMA process is terrible I'll still continue buying eVGA video card products.  Why?  You'll probably have worse luck with competitors.  Other companies that I like that I think of seem a bit lower in quality over all.

Old rig, ftw: Evga 790i FTW, SLI Evga GTX 260 Core 216 Superclocked 4GB RAM Core2Duo E8400 (parted out, gone)

Instead of a gaming rig, you should go buy a text book and en-roll in whatever free programs, or subsidized programs you can and educate yourself in an in-demand field of which there are many.

Unless you want to be at the whim of the job market, make yourself a hot commodity so you can find employment in a high paying career.

A gaming rig is the last thing you need right now.

Eh. I'd give it if I had it. Why not. Then again that's just who I am. Material things don't equal the happiness if one person. Also... Judge not people. Maybe outright asking is taboo...maybe not. Closed mouth don't get fed. And if your going to ask, aim high. I had a mini ITX board with an i5 that...honestly would be a downgrade but it worked. Ibdont have much, I'm grateful for what I have, and would give it to anyone had I spares to give. Hang in there Shaun... Life goes on.

Giving out your resume is just step one. You need to get a hold of HR for whatever company you are applying for and ask for a interview. Most company's want to see you take that extra step before you even get looked at seriously. If it's a local business, you should go up and ask if they've had time to look over your application or resume.

As for your motherboard being the issue, I'd suggest finding something used.

Re-read the original post once more.
Dude, sell your parts and buy smth cheaper. I wish a PC to play was my worst problem. But I have my flat burnt, it's much worse, don't you think so?

buy? with a rig like mine why would I even think about buying another PC?  I barely game these days and I have the two rigs in my sig, I like both of them.  The core2duo gets 58fps in crysis with full detail and 1080p.  It is sitting idle though.

Right now I'm working on getting more ram for my server so I can work on hyper-v, business applications streaming, virtualized hosts linux, microsoft server 2008r2, and 2012.  Thinking about getting more IT certifications and also thinking about changing my career to something more engineering/design related.  certs aren't that difficult to get and it keeps me busy learning some practical things by myself.

Would be cool to have a spare i7 to do all this stuff on but right now I just have a dual opteron and it is only showing me 3.5 gigs of ram.  friend of mine gave me parts, I have a pile of defective ram for it.. memory for this system is cheap on the bay though.  8 gigs is about 10 bucks.  thinking about maxing it out to 16 gig and seeing if that is enough for what I want to do.

There's a couple pc games I want to try out, world of tanks is one of them, but I don't really plan on spending lots of time gaming.  I just like to see some eye candy once in a while.

Old rig, ftw: Evga 790i FTW, SLI Evga GTX 260 Core 216 Superclocked 4GB RAM Core2Duo E8400 (parted out, gone)
New rig 8th Generation i7 8700k with GTX 2080ti upgraded from GTX 670 4GB and 64gb G.Skill TridentZ RGB ddr4, some NVME drives and and a couple 480GB SATA III ssds.  Evga 7" Tegra Nvidia quadcore tablet.  Evga Z10 Keyboard

if anyone would be willing to donate a Z97 board,  a Intel 4670K,  and 16gb (4x4gb) @ 2133mhz of corsair or any other good branded RAM

    I see, so a Z87, 4770K, 8GB of 2000Mhz off brand RAM won't do you any good?

Ill find a job eventually and do it on my own without any hand outs.  I remember a ton of members getting new PC parts when theres broke down but I guess I was born the wrong gender.  Lets not forget how many people have their X58s running at 4.2ghz because of me helping them OC.   But in the end you are all right I should ask for anything I should except my bad luck and run with it.  Ill try to sell my PC the last thing I own.  I lost the rest of my stuff in my divorce.  but its ok.  brag about your titans and x79 systems enjoy your BSOD free gaming.   Piece out.

Ugh, doing a good deed and helping one person out with some OCs does not automatically entitle you to handouts. If I help granny cross the street, I don't expect Joe to give me a thousand bucks.

People that buy Titans, and X79 systems bought them with their hard earned cash..Just how people with Ferraris, Lambos and other exotics worked for them. I'm sorry life isn't all peachy for everyone.

I spend my money on car mods and PC stuff. I also think you're a bit off if you think you deserve an x79 board with a 4670k, and 16gb of ram. Heck that beats my computer, and I haven't upgraded mine despite it being used for work as well, as I haven't had a need for it.

You deserve a P4, with 4 GB of ram and Windows XP - just enough to be able to apply for jobs.

Re: So i lost my job and have had the worst string of bad luck ever. 2014/07/24 18:05:47 (permalink)
Let me make this clear.  I left my wife because she was a opiate junky.  heroin Pills didn't matter and she didn't care how she got it.   You ever came home to 2 men in your house with your wife??? no try it sometime see how you feel about the world.  Then try getting laid off from a good job.   Then try going to school only to have Obama say oh wait no more funding for unemployment for people going to school.(and yea im aware he cut money to the military for food too.  I have friends who I feel very bad for who are stuck over there).  Yea I could be worse off.   I AM SORRY I ASK FOR ANYTHING.   Please accept my apology.   As for looking for a job I have resumes in all over I don't just sit home and whine about not having a job.  Im out everyday knocking on doors dropping resumes calling HR departments trying to find anything that fits my skill set.  But there little to no work for a welder/metal bender in NY state.  I have 1 year and 1 semester of Hardware/software design left to go.  Im going to try to re enroll in the fall and finish.  But until then I do need to find a job to put food on my table.  if I could sell my PC I would.  Believe I had 2 mint condition GTX 570s I tried to sell I couldn't I ended up giving them away to family members.  So whiner no complainer no,  Fed up with getting knocked down yes.  But as always ill pick myself up and move on like I always do.  I hit a rough patch some of you can't see that instead you just see someone asking for hand outs.   I want nothing from no one now.   I need nothing from no one.  I have my girlfriend god bless her soul.  I cook I clean I do all the work around the house I do anything and everything I can for her.  But at the end of the day I feel like less of a man for not having job.   I was raised to provide for my family and my loved ones.  I cant do that right now and its destroying me inside.  Ill toughen up and find a way.  I would move out of state but my girlfriend has a good job that she enjoys so I would never put her through that or make her choose because I love her.   So before you spout off at the mouth about me being this or that or my wife left me learn the facts.  I used to like the people of this forum.  Chrome has been a very good friend to me Nite and I have had some good conversations.   everyone is correct I shouldn't ask for anything.  I should earn it.  some day ill get what I put in.  Thank you for opening my eyes to the world.   Most of you have proven exactly what I already knew the world is full of selfish people.  the rich get richer the poor get poorer.  The enthusiasts or w/e around here like to boast about there quad titans or their Dual CPU SR-X boards.  good for you.   Ill use mine til it dies then ill find a new  hobby that doesn't cost money.   I spend every waking minute showing my girlfriend I love her I cook her dinner before work I do everything a good boyfriend should do.  I help out the elderly.  I will stop whatever I am doing at the drop of a hat to help someone in need.  But apparently karma doesn't exist.   There is no karma some are born with it all and some are born to lose.   As for why do I need a car..... I live in a city where jobs are scarce most people commute atleast 30 minutes to work on average so a car is a definite need.   otherwise I would sell my car.  If I could find a market around here for my PC where I would get a fair deal id sell that too.   Id sell my soul if it meant I could get some good luck to come my way.   both me and my girlfriend spent a good hour today crying and hugging eachother because neither of us knows what to do.  My father is loaded but wouldn't give me the lint out of his dryer to keep warm with.  He pretends I don't exist ever since my mother and him got divorced.  Yea after 30 years it still stings a bit.  My mom would do anything for me but she can't because her new husband spends thousands of dollars on useless junk gas powered RC's he uses once then put away and finds something else shiny like a raccoon.
End Rant.  Think what you want of me.  in the end you are all just people on internet and your opinion shouldn't matter.  thank you to those who have constructive things to say instead of just cutting me down some more.  Bad enough your wife of 10 years all the sudden decides a drug is more important than the man that loved her and would have done anything for her.  So I guess you could say this thread went from a beg to rant/venting about the pain I felt after watching my best friend of10 years disappear and be replace by a drug crazing zombie.

So I am sorry that my asking offended so many people to get evil about it.

    I care.

Sucks about your marriage, I too divorced 2 - 1/2 years ago and had to start completely over.  Came home to bags on the porch, my personal car sold without my permission, and our savings account completely wiped out.  Then I would get the call from my kids crying all the time asking why Mommy won't let me come back home.  I couldn't tell them the truth that Mommy just wanted to go in a "different" direction with her life.  I know what broke is.  There were times where I could afford to eat nothing but oats for weeks at a time.  I felt sorry for myself for a month or two (which meant sleeping on my buddies couch, strip club every knight, and lots of booze).....then woke up one day and chose to be happy, chose to work towards what I want, and now I am.

My two kids are well adjusted, I'm more successful than ever at work, and my relationships with friends are better than they have ever been.

Dude, there is light at the end of the tunnel.

Dude you live in NY. I live in Brooklyn. You should know that nobody gives a crap about anyone but themselves around here. Sounds cynical? Sure. But it's also true for the most part, at least in NYC (I don't know how far upstate you are).

You're getting unemployment benefit, your g/f still has a job, and you've only been out of work a couple of weeks, but you make it sound like the world is ending! Cut the drama queen bs; your life isn't over, you're in a better position than many and you have trade skills and you're near completing a qualification in another field entirely, you have a g/f that clearly cares and supports you emotionally, holy crap, your cup is more than half full, so stop feeling sorry for yourself - there's plenty of people who wish they were as 'poor' as you.

I typed "welder jobs NY" in Google and this is the first link. Anything in your area?
