Hello everyone. This is my first post, unfortunately is about an issue with my EVGA GTX 580. Today it start to get artifacts(horizontal white thin lines) and the driver is not recognized by the system. I guess that is about one memory or the GPU that will need a reball/reflow. I mentioned that nothing that could overload the card has been performed in the last month. I tried in 2 slots of my motherboard and on the output of both DVI connectors. Also 2 different drivers installed. I spotted some oil spots on the PCB coming from the thermal pads mounted on the VRM and memories. If you have some suggestion, please let me know. Thank you.

Try the card in a different pci-e slot, different computer and or a different card in this system. To help determine where the problem is.

You can try to clean gently graphic card with isopropyl alcohol, change paste and new thermal pads.
Did you notice yellow mark Unknown device in device manager and before problem with graphic card?

I have plugged the card in another slot, the thermal paste was changed 3 months ago. There was no yellow sign last time when I checked(when the last driver, not beta, was installed). The next step is to try it in another pc, to clean it and to change the thermal pads.

Maybe that "oil" comes from thermal pads because higher temps I hear for that and before few times.

I have monitored the temperature and never goes more than 70(in games, never tested in furmark or other software). That oil must be non-conductive, I have clean it with soldering flux.

That type of artifacting looks like VRAM issues to me. Are you overclocked?

The card is SC (superclocked) version, never overclocked by me.

The card was received as a gift, I have no paper for it. What can I do in this situation?

I can't register my product, I only have the serial number on the PCB, not the part number(I don't have the box). It is any chance in this situation for RMA?

The serial number is what you need to start with.  Contact EVGA support, as the card may or may not be within warranty, depending on when the card originally shipped from EVGA and/or the unique situation for how you received the card.  Please do not post your serial number here, however.

My Serial Number sticker is missing. It's not so good idea (for the customers) that the serial number sticker to be glued on the PCB over the components. It will fall down shortly. The S/N on my card is one from the production process, as the support team said, I guess that I have no chance for RMA.  I've ordered an EVGA GTX 660 due to the power consumption and performance, hope I made the right choice continuing with EVGA.

Solder cracking somewhere on the PCB may be the problem, it's not as common as it used to be but can still happen and cause all kinds of issues..You can disassemble the card and bake only the PCB just like this if you want to try it..200C/385F for 10 minutes or so should reflow any cracking that might exist..With any luck, that will fix it and you could keep it as a spare or sell it or try it as a PhysX card or whatever..Might last a long time (or not) if that fixes it, who knows..Bake it with the GPU side up if you do it, not down like in the video, that's wrong, components may fall off..Don't forget to register your new card when you get it.

This is the last solution, I know something about re-flow and re-balling. I have 2 hot air stations, I don't have to put the card in the oven. I just want to know if this is a GPU, VRM or memory failure. Regarding the new card, I will register it before installing in my PC.

Looks like a memory issue so try the VRAM first

I think I just encountered the same issue after trying to update my video drivers.
Uninstalling completely and reinstalling Nvidia Drivers 331.93, everything went back to normal.

The artifacts looks like the one in the picture posted above? The problem is that I tried to install different versions of driver without success. Strange that the fault came during reading on-line newspaper, no other application was opened.

That's cool ..Figured a reflow would prolly fix it..Yeah, hopefully it will last a long time.

I had the exact same visual artifacts with the exception of blue and green horizontal lines with my 580gtx recently and I'm waiting for a replacement to arrive in a few days. First RMA I've had to do since my
