when I start Borderlands 2 up the game runs for about 30 seconds then I get a BSoD with the nvlddks error but I can run titanfall for hours and not have a problem, any thoughts?

335.23 driver has a ton of issues, try doing a clean install of 332.21.

Could be a driver issue with your game..Some drivers cause issues with certain games..Newer drivers sometimes just simply don't work all that well with older hardware..All drivers have open/known issues in the Release Notes you can check (335.23 Release Notes)..There's also the Official NVIDIA 335.23 WHQL Driver Feedback Thread you can take a look at (link)..The 335.23 seems to be a rather problematic driver, with a handful of people even claiming it has bricked their graphics card.

I would uninstall it using the latest Display Driver Uninstaller utility (link) in Safe Mode, following the instructions and the on-screen prompts when you run it..Then try an older driver (link) and install only PhysX and none of the other optional driver components (3D Vision Controller Driver, 3D  Vision Driver, HD Audio Driver, NVIDIA GeForce Experience) for now using the Custom (Advanced) install option (link)..You can always add any of the other optional driver components later if you need/want to..But uninstall EVGA Precision and any other similar software (MSI Afterburner, GPU Tweak, Riva Tuner, etc.) and choose not to save settings when/if prompted and also temporarily disable your anti-virus program before you do anything.

You're welcome..Don't know what to tell you about your new issue though except to enable (which is default) "Show user interface tooltips" in Precision X and hover over "1 > G92" under "GPU Select" and read the Hints..You can OC them separately too, but you prolly knew that.

it goes right back with the sliders and when I type it in for the gpu then click on the memory the gpu goes back to default and vice versa.?  is there another program you would recommend to oc to see if it does the same? and if it does do you think its the card?

Try changing the skin in precision, if that doesn't work try uninstalling precision, make sure to select "no" to saving profiles when asked, reboot pc, re-install precision & test.

modernizing the graphics would do wonders for gameplay

i swapped a pair of GTX 260s for a GTX 660 Ti, mainly as a few titles wanted shader 5 cards

No big deal, sure video cards cost $ but that is part of the PC gaming experience

im at a loss, it does the exact same thing with either program. I uninstalled precision, didn't save my profile and card two was still overclocked in legacy from the new version of precision install.

Hmm..Well, I uninstalled Precision X and ran DDU and did a Clean and Shutdown driver removal then swapped out my EVGA GTX 760 SC for my old EVGA 9800 GTX+ and installed the complete 335.23 driver package using Express (Recommended) and Precision X again and clocked it up to 9800 GTX+ SSC speed..Typed in the GPU Clock, hit Enter and Apply (same with Memory Clock) and have no problems except that BF3 is very, very ugly.

Maybe you should start over from scratch and test each card individually and see how they work..Possible that card 1 has an issue...Maybe swap cards in SLI and see if the problem follows just the one card..There's a bunch of older drivers here should you wanna try any of them for the heck of it.

ive been out the building game for a bit, what would be the next step up from two 9800gtx's without getting too out of hand as far as cost goes.

You could go with a 660ti or say a 760/770 and those will do wonders for you

A HD6950 2GB card would cost you about 80-100 dollars off eBay... That would be the most cost effective jump for you, before you have to put money into a whole new build due to your processor not being able to keep up.

If you can save more money for used GTX580... That would be really increase in performance for you.
I must warn you HD6950/HD6970 reference series is same as hot as GTX480 and much weaker in DX11 games, special tessellation than GTX580.
But I doubt you will find cheaper than 120-130$ but really worth.
Something as this would be perfect for you, you must look I found several for about 130$, Zotac, PNY... you can talk maybe and drop price few bucks.
I have EVGA GTX580 and card is so close to my heart..., I bought her suddenly on one weird way, I even don't know how AR model Packed in USA finished in Serbia sealed 2 years after last of them gone from EU and USA online shops but usually such things are good. You will not wrong with same model. In newest games everything what you need to do is to disable AA and MSAA and you can play, to the last game.

NEWEGG had it on sale and I had a $10 gift card.

Should I use just one card or should I use one of my 9800 for phys x?

You can try 9800GT for PhysX.
It's best when you buy new card.
How much cost that card on Newegg?
If you can buy this because this model have much higher clock.

People are very satisfied with that model judging by comments.

With the newer cards the frequency changes dynamically so when the card is not under load it will drop frequency to save power. Try loading the card with OC Scanner and see what PrecisionX says the frequency jumps up to
