I support this Petition and advise others to sign it.  I totally agree that this thing that T-mobile has done should be followed by the rest of wireless carriers.

I have been with T-Mobile for over a decade, and I am glad for it.  They are always trying to improve things or reduce costs to the consumer.  I recently switched to their plan where for $80/month my wife and I share unlimited talk and text and each get 500mb of free data with no overages.  I don't use much data anyway because I am always on wifi everywhere I go.  Worked perfect for me.

How do you propose avoiding overages? Just cut the connection when the limit is reached?

I don't know about other providers, but Verizon sends multiple text messages and emails as you approach the limit. Then, they give you the option to add 2 more GB for $10. Seems pretty reasonable to me. I am not signing the petition. I expect to pay for good quality service. Unlimited data just doesn't work anymore for 4G devices; otherwise everyone goes crazy with their data usage and bog down the network.

Tmobile doesn't charge overage fees when you pass your limit, instead they slow down your speed to 3G.

I don't think a petition on Change.org has ever changed anything.  Ever since that GTA V Petition no one takes it seriously.

Lol 3g would be awesome, ATT slows it down to the point that even just a google search is nearly impossible. Unlimited data indeed.

And they give you the option to do that if you want, it's 10$ for 2GB more of 4G data.

Lmao a petition for how a business should do business? Please, youre not tied to your carrier. Pick whichever one caters to your business needs and move on. Don't like it? Don't buy it.

Do you even realize how ridiculous this sounds? This isn't a government program - it's a private entity. Go pre-paid if you can't handle post-paid, or get a plan appropriate to your needs. FYI i haven't had a single cell bill in a year.

Virgin Mobile does not slow anything down for the whole month you have service under the unlimited you have 4G I had 4GB of Data all 4G and they don't ever slow it down.  There are companies that will not slow you down.

Overages? I pay $80 unlimited talk/text/data for Sprint, Fast internet and great reception.

Heck, I pay less with the AAA discount AND having someone else on my contract.

It's your problem for trying to save some money by getting a regular contract plan for $50 a month when they tell you, They only give a data limit for 2GB/4GB. Which is reached extremely fast.

On one hand, T-Mobile is getting some major publicity, on the other... carriers that don't cut off the data flow after the limit is hit and charge ridiculous fee's costing a customer over 3 times their regular bill is a little outrageous. Throttling makes a lot more sense than price gouging your customers for data.

A lot of these carriers are not keeping up with the times. The usage on the newer phones that have 1080p screens will take up a lot more bandwidth that the older 480p phones, because Netflix, YouTube, Hulu+, and all of the other streaming services will automatically give you the highest resolution it can stream at... I see about 24GB of usage on my phone every month using my Note 3. It was half that on my LG Optimus G, and about a quarter of that usage on my HTC EVO 3D.

    Again, It's the users fault!

Who told you to get that new Note 3? No one BUT YOURSELF.

If you want to pay less, Avoid data charges, Get a flip phone. No matter how you put it, You know what you got yourself into... It's not the carriers fault. "I want people to know I have money to buy the newest phone, But please don't tell them I can't afford my excessive phone bill"

Does your carrier not send you email and text notifications? Verizon sends an email and a text if you reach 75% usage and then again another email and text around 90% usage and probably another one around 95% usage (but I have never gone that high). Usually they alert you and it is sort of your fault after that. Plus the carrier probably has data usage info available via their website, an app on your phone, and a special text message number; so it shouldn't be hard to keep yourself informed. Plus, most Android phones have da5a usage statistics built into the phone's OS which you can view in the settings with an option to have your phone's OS alert you at a certain limit.

How much can you blame a service provider for the user's ignorance?

Example of my usage as of now.

I/We have Sprint's org 1500 Shared Family Talk, Unlimited Text and Data Plan.  Our devices, my HTC Evo LTE avg 6-8GB a month alone.  My wife's Galaxy S4 is 4.5-4.9GB and my daughter's Samsung Galaxy S 2 about 1.5-2GB a month.  That's 12GB on the low end.  I would be paying a butt load from other carriers.  My bill avg is $168 a month for 3 lines.  NO ONE and I mean NO ONE carrier can touch that.

I work for verizon wireless.  Yes the text notifications go out at 25, 50, 75 and 100% data.  People call in all the time needing to upgrade data as they go over.  Then want to piss and moan that they don't know why.  And both the two main phones are Android and Iphone.  Every Verizon customer has the ability to see the data usage via your myverizon page or myverizon mobile app. We also have a detailed break down of data usage far more complex than anyone might even think.

The overages I see from people is quite high with the current phones and yes not just verizon, but "EVERY CARRIER" is NOT up to today's times with the amount of data actually needed.  They all know this and take advantage of it to soak up as much as they charge.  They build plans and bank on people to go over.  That alone is a cash cow for them.

Again, that's a stupid amount of data to use amongst 3 people. No one says you need to stream everything and anything. Yes, facebook can wait til you get home, so can streaming spotify/pandora. No you don't need to use youtube all the time, and you certainly don't need to stream netflix on a flipping phone.

Seriously, if you're so dependent on data, use WiFi, or suck up the price and pony up the cash.

Literally your argument is that you can afford a Ferrari but not the gas it takes to run the car. Its just silly how ridic customers are.

    I agree with Rush.

I have Sprint, I do not have overage fee's lol... So no user error here. I am talking purely from other people's experiences. I have a Co-worker that got a tablet through sprint on a bundle deal and they didn't explain to him that the tablet had a data limit and his phones didn't... it was confusing to him cause the tablet was also a phone line. They charged him a crazy amount cause he went 2GB over. Luckily they removed it for a first time thing...

It's cell phone companies applying the minutes marketing table and applying it to data usage since you can put a meter on it. It's old, out dated and just a bad way to treat your customers. It could be simplified, but complex and confusion is how they can swindle more money out of people. It's ridiculous you have to watch a data usage bar for most carriers.

He should have done his research. If you add a tablet, They give you the option to chose which data plan. I doubt they gave him a random one.

I don't see the confusion here, Do you?

Hey, Just because you're banned from discussing our freedoms doesn't mean we should all discuss them in other peoples threads, LOL.

Who said I was banned from that? Haha just pointing out that nothing has ever been done directly related to change.org and people are arguing over something that most likely will not change. If people shop around they can find places that will not throttle or charge overage charges.

He went into it thinking he was going to buy a family plan, was then told he could get a free tablet if he wanted to add it to the bundle and he could call with it. It was a whole sales pitch that wrangled him into getting it, it was not a planned purchase... not saying it was a 100% sound purchase.

It's like you buying a F-150 raptor, walk in to get it, then they tell you it comes with a mounted 50 Cal in the back for free. Then when you get home with it, you are then told you have to pay overage fee's every time you want to use over 10 bullets per month after you took it somewhere and shot off like 100 rounds.

    RainStryke is correct.

Well I don't worry about my data.  I've still got true unlimited.  Plus our wifi at work is a joke.  Never work...umm the IT guys are idiots.  That's another story.  So on breaks/lunches I'll watch whatever I hadn't finished previously.  I've got LTE mostly everywhere I go now in Phoenix with Sprint.  So I don't worry about speeds or the amount of data I use.  When I'm at home.  I don't use my phone at all unless I get a phone call or random text.  That's it.
