Not saying the review linked is a bad one I just think  it fell short of testing somethings. If it matters give this a read. I have Norton on 4 systems which is max allowed for the Comcast free version which is Symantec's 360 version. However I have a 5th system I must purchase an Internet Security suite for and a 6th machine my home server. Nod32 has been my go to because it compatible with WHS 2012 and most others aren't. I've since retired the server for a NAS box and moved on to Kaspersky Internet Security 2014 based on that roundup review. There assessment in dead on accurate in terms of resource hogging  it's light weight, fast scanning and hardly know it's there. Bottom line I couldn't be happier with the change and can highly recommend Kaspersky or Symantec but it too is a bit of a resource hog (not as bad as NOD though). NOD32 was effective but a true pig.

FYI the same was true with Nod32 android mobile app on SG3. I had to uninstall it because it brought performance to it's knees and cut battery life in 1/2. Me thinks NOD needs to refine that engine a bit.

Norton is terrible at detecting some viruses. If you want the best go with Kaspersky.

I use none because it slows my computer down like all anti-viruses do. This whole time with this current build I never used one and I never had a virus or nothing. I dont even updated windows either. I like my computer to be fresh and clean and fast like its brand new the first time you booted up. You really dont need any anti-viruses anyways unless you go to places your not really supposed to go. Lets not forget downloading crap all the time too.

Haven't Tried Any of the Others, But I have been using Norton 360 for Years with No Problems.
I Also believe You do need SOME type of Virus Protection on your system!

For Example, just recently when I did a fresh Win 7 x64 install on my Benching Rig and FORGOT to install Norton before adding on My various Testing/Benchmarking programs and went ahead without it, I somehow got a Deep-Rooted Virus that really messed up the System so bad, I had to Reinstall Windows Again making sure I installed Norton before Any other programs or Windows Updates and Now.......No Worries.

Source, or I'm calling  baloney on that one, RJ. No av is perfect but Norton is one of the best according to every reputable review I've seen.

I don't bother with AV software, malwarebytes is enough for me.  Browse smart and no need, and MWB for those odd files that are questionable in the first place.

I was fighting an infection the other day. It disabled MSE and acted as if it was in it's place. Got Kaspersky free scan and was able to take out the offending files. I then downloaded Free Comodo and it found stuff Kaspersky did not find.

you two really dont understand the nature of viruses today.
like its scary how uninformed you are.

Virus can be gotten anywhere. OMGezus 1 sec on my boot time. hell some have negligable boot time changes. 1 sec is the norm now, very few go over that, many under.

I only browse, download, and file transfer using a naked Linux installation with nothing protecting it other than good habits and an encrypted VPN.  My Windows rig uses Avast and Malwarebytes and seems to do a good job.

I never had a problem with Norton 360 provided for free from Comcast subscription.  I switch to ESET recently as my company switch from NAV to ESET.  Since then, I had an issue with Google Chrome that ESET fixed.  I don't visit P2P, BitTorrent, porn, how-to-hack type sites which are infested with viruses.  But ya never know out there nowadays, as plenty of tech sites have not escaped viruses even when using best practices.

I do know the so-called round up reviews are extraordinary bias and inaccurate over the years.  If your happy with performance, protection and price, stick with what you got.

I always used NIS until last year when I tried the 360. The 360 would give me errors out of the blue when on the comp. Went back to NIS, and had no problems again. Not sure why, but I'm at least happy again.

    Should've, Could've, Would'vd
Fresh install of your OS on any AV/SW/MA security is sometimes required.

This eliminates the grey area of your system environment vs your new install of AV security brand

I have always been happy with free programs (avast, avg, etc). You will never really run into problems if you follow safe browsing rules.

I think most ppl on a forum use a major service provider, like Comcast, Cox, Verizon, ATT, Qwest, etc which provide a major AV security suite.  I would recommend taking advantage of what you pay for already with your major service provider or go for free AV with safe browsing rules.  My main point here, the grass is not greener on the other side of what your internet provider is already offering you.

NIS at Fry's is usually around 10 dollars every time it's time to renew my NIS. It's worth it since I like the program. Now if it cost me 50 bucks, or something, then there would be a problem.
