I tried searching the web and this forum for this issue, but no luck.

I've got my old 9800GTX+ rig (see my sig for all data via ModsRigs) folding on all 3 9800GTX+ cards for the time zone contest. OS is Windows 8.1 Professional x64. I just now started folding at all, and so I installed the client last week sometime.

However, the web monitor page doesn't list points-per-day values for any of the three cards. It says "- points per day" with a dash in place of the number. It says I have until the end of the world to finish the job (like 12323623.236236236236 days). There are work units assigned, the progress bar fills up every couple of hours for each card, and new work units are assigned, but I never get any feedback on the points.

I checked the advance control, too, but I didn't see any PPD values.

The tab for the CPU (Q6600) folding on 2 cores only shows the PPD correctly (like 300 or something).

I think I'm running the latest WHQL drivers from nVidia. I know sometimes people only use old drivers on old cards, so should I roll back to something from 2 years ago or so?

Has anyone seen this before? I'm mainly curious as to whether or not it's worth the 550+ watts that this machine pulls.
EDIT: Need to mention that my primary rig w/ GTX 680 SC is also folding 24/7 for this contest, so I can't just look at the stats for my folding@home page and see what my old rig is putting out.

The problem is that Core 0x11, which runs on pre-Fermi cards, doesn't support PPD calculation in the client if my memory serves me correctly. If you're running v7 3.3.6 or below, HFM can give you those estimates.

That aside, I used to fold on a 9800+, and it generally netted me about 6k PPD. Also, if you're freeing your CPU cores solely in the hopes of improving your GPU PPD, then you might want to reconsider. Core 0x11 needs essentially zero CPU time.

If you check http://folding.extremeoverclocking.com/user_summary.php?s=&u=655833 you can see those little results in hourly production section (3 for a total of 1,761, for example) indicates you are getting points from those cards. Cards of that era (anything before 4xx) folded very small but fast work units.

If you wish to get a PPD estimate, you can do so manually by using the calculator here. http://www.linuxforge.net/bonuscalc2.php If you check the log in advanced control you should be able to see a TPF (time for 1%, averaged recommended) and then can punch in those numbers. Don't expect these cards to be particularly efficient compared to recent ones, but that part is up to you on keeping them running.

Glad to have you in the contest!

Technically the problem is the core 11 servers were never updated to provide v7 the information it needs to make its PPD calculations.  Since core 11 is going to go EOL at some point in the nearish future I don't think they will make that upgrade, at least not until they repurpose those servers for work to be done by other cores.

Thanks for the heads up - I figured it had something to do with the age of the technology.

I had dropped down to 2 cores because of improving GPU efficiency, but also because HEAT (790i board, mind you). It stays in the low 70s after 12 hours of folding on all 4 cores, though.

Wow, that site is pretty informative. I see what you were talking about with the hourly productions. I'm also putting my work laptop to work on off hours (i7 ivy bridge mobile and a NVidia quadro) so those are in there somewhere, too.

I'll keep the 9800 rig going for the contest, but will probably shut it down afterwards as I'm pretty sure I could buy another GTX 680 with what it would cost to run that rig 24/7 for a few months.

anything older than fermi's is EOL and Nvidia is dropping driver support for DX10 cards - store up your old drivers

FAh has dropped anything older than 200 series cards from support - and even 200 series are an issue because they can only accept core 15 and we had issues with that
expect the future cores to only handle about 4-5 years of cards - which runs in line with Nvidia driver support - they won't provide support after 5 years

the new FAH client won't support them
an older one might still using core 15 - but don't expect much points
for the power you are using to get so little work done - id advise getting a new card rather than try folding on it
