Ever since CES we have been expecting an onslaught of 4K monitors to make their way to the market. Today Amazon.com listed the Samsung U28D590D for pre-order for the price of just $699. This is a 28-in display with a 3840x2160 resolution and support for 60 Hz refresh rates courtesy of the DisplayPort 1.2 connection.

That's a hell of a deal for a 4K monitor, especially one capable of 60 Hz (likely through MST)! Worth noting is that the monitor is a TN panel so picture quality won't be as good as the IPS options still selling for over $2500, like the ASUS PQ321Q we reviewed previously.

Sorry rjhonson didn't see it in the hot deals section.

very tempting!!! concerned about the TN panel though. I sent my ASUS TN 144hz back because i could not get used to the color or the viewing angles. will be looking for more reviews for this monitor for sure.

*edit this one seemed like a good review

Might not be the ideal one, but it is a step in the right direction.  60hz, I cant wait to see 120, and as far as TN panels go, I have used good and bad TN panels, I have no complaints about my old T260 Samsung monitor, its a TN and looks good.  Not all TN panels are created equal, and IPS would be nicer, but it is rare to see IPS get the same GTG response time.
Either way, its another good monitor that is less expensive than the first wave, more competition, the consumers win.

Once manufacturing of 4K panels starts up in earnest I believe we'll see cheaper 4K models become available with more options.

I wanted the gsync monitor but i couldn't get it, except the 24" and put the module in myself.
So i bought the samsung series 9 28" 2560x1440 60hz nice color and OC it to 85hz as far as it would go. Its a great match up with the 780 sli. I would have to turn settings down to reach the 120hz mark. I'm around the 120-110 fps in battlefield 4 ultra. But i wanted to try gsync so bad.

Yeah, 4k 3d @ 120hz is what I'm looking forward to.  Though I imagine that would require a rack of today's gpu's to push. lol  Hopefully by the time it's a consumer reality, today's gpu's will look puny by comparison to new tech.

Always good to have something to look forward to. :)

I'm still upset Gsync doesn't work in surround. So, I'm holding out for ultra wide 4k curved 120hz Gsync  Or, just a Oculus

nVidia is currently working on G-Sync in surround, but I have more faith in DisplayPort 1.2a or 1.3 which gives us FreeSync, despite GPU. I don't see 1.3 coming out until year's end. 1.3 will also be important if you want 4K at 120Hz as 1.2 only supports 4K up to 60Hz. Hopefully, we see DP 1.3 in the 800 series which are supposed to come out December 2014 - February 2015. Then we have to  wait for a display to actually come out that supports 4K at 120Hz. Others are waiting for OLED to become cheaper, but that will take quite a bit of time, perhaps until 8K becomes the standard in 2020.

3840x2160 isn't 4k enough for me.  I think a lot of people are still waiting on good 2560x1440 120hz panels like myself.  I just cannot game at less than 120hz anymore.

Well my QNIX is pretty nice and I can overclock it up to 120 hertz but I normally keep it at 100 hertz.

Im still running my samsung in my signature, i paid over 1k for it but when I put it next to other high resolution displays, the picture quality on my samsung absolutly destroys it..

I want to see a 4k monitor with picture and colors that match my current monitor...not really interested in the 120hz thing...
