Re:Is it worth it to upgrade from 6gb of ram to 12gb???? 2013/12/01 15:12:43 (permalink)
It passed 20 runs at 1t and 4gb of ram being tested. I am now running it using 6gb of ram and 1t. The problem size using 6gb is 28326. If it passes all 20 runs at that problem size can I consider it stable? Should I run Prime 95 overnight as well? If so which prime test should I use?

Re: Is it worth it to upgrade from 6gb of ram to 12gb???? 2013/12/01 17:06:44 (permalink)
It passed 20 runs at 1t and 6gb of ram tested, 12gb of ram installed of course.  With it set to 6gb the computer was using close to 8gb of total ram according to resource manager.

I am going to test again using 8gb which makes the problem size 32,717.  That should mean the computer will be using @10gb of ram while testing.

It took almost 2 hours to run 20 passes at 6gb of ram so imagine it is going to take close to 3 hours at 8gb.  I'll post my results.

Re: Is it worth it to upgrade from 6gb of ram to 12gb???? 2013/12/01 21:00:02 (permalink)
It rebooted while testing 8gb of ram.  I wasn't home to catch the error message so I don't know what it was.

Since I did pass testing 6gb of ram am I officially stable?  Shouldn't I be able to run all ram and still pass?  Is there another voltage I should be tweaking besides Vcore or VTT?

I would call it good to go. You will NEVER put that much load on your computer doing any real world things. You can always make it crash even at default settings if you keep upping the stress level. Good job, I say!

Did you try going up a notch on Dimm voltage?

Re: Is it worth it to upgrade from 6gb of ram to 12gb???? 2013/12/02 07:11:42 (permalink)
I didn't raise the Dimm voltage.  According to CPUID the max my Dram voltage hit was 1.74 and the minimum was 1.65.  I don't know how accurate that is but it appears I am giving it enough voltage already.  I am running without Vdroop which I thought only effected Vcore but it may also effect the other voltages.

Anyway, I left my computer running P95 blend test when I went to bed last night.  It was still running this morning so it has been over 8 hours with no errors.  I left it running when I left for work.  If it runs all day without errors I think it is safe to say I am stable enough.

I do feel it should be able to pass Linx with all ram used but maybe I am asking too much.  When I only had 6gb installed I would use all ram and it would pass.

When I got home from work my monitor wouldn't turn back on.  I don't know if P95 crashed or what happened.  Either way it did pass over 8 hours of P95 and 6gb memory size of LineX.  I think I am stable enough for now.

I ran p95 again during the day. It rebooted while I was at work. I am trying to run linx with 8gb of ram again. When I left my house it had passed 5 runs. If it doesn't pass 20 runs I will try it at 2t.

I'm close but not 100% stable yet.

Re: Is it worth it to upgrade from 6gb of ram to 12gb???? 2013/12/03 21:32:22 (permalink)
Now I am really confused.  This time it passed 20 runs using 8gb of ram, @10gb total including windows, of LinX without errors or rebooting at the same ram timings it failed at before.  It took almost 3 hours but it passed all 20 runs.

The temps at my now lower overclock of 3.864 are excellent.  Highest core hit a max of 71c and the lowest was 67c.  The max cpu temp was 58c.  Needless to say temps are not an issue.

So since I still am crashing the p95 blend test after an extended amount of time, over 8 hours or so, what should I try tweaking next?

I ran Linx last night using all ram and it passed 20 runs!

I am going to run Memtest all day while I am at work.  I ran it once to make sure it passed one round of tests but I haven't let it run all day yet.

I know I am really close to being 100% stable but something needs to be tweaked just a bit so I can pass the P95 blend test for 24 hours.

When I got home my monitor wouldn't turn back on. I don't know if that means memtest crashed or I shouldn't turn the monitor off. Either way I am running it again and I'm going to leave the monitor on this time.

Leaving my monitor on worked.  I left it running when I left this morning.  It has been running for over 16 hours and passed 10 tests with 0 errors.  Hopefully when I get home it will have ran for over 24 hours with no errors.

Then the last test is P95 blend test....

Re: Is it worth it to upgrade from 6gb of ram to 12gb???? 2013/12/05 23:03:49 (permalink)
I just got home and Memtest has passed almost 33 hours and 21 passes with no errors with the memory settings in my sig.  Needless to say Memtest is stable.

So I have passed 20 runs of LinX using all ram and I have passed Memtest for over 24 hours.  I assume the last test to pass is P95 blend for how long before I can fully believe I am 100% stable???

P95 blend has been running for @18 hours without any errors. Hopefully it makes it through the night and I can officially say I have 6x2 gb of ram running and my new lower overclock is 100% stable.

Re: Is it worth it to upgrade from 6gb of ram to 12gb???? 2013/12/07 07:05:49 (permalink)
Unfortunately when I woke up this morning my computer had restarted.

So I was able to run P95 blend test for @20-26 hours without any issues but it ended with a hard restart.

I think I am stable enough but if I as to try to tweak anything to get it more stable what would you recommend I try?

I say leave it alone. Stop beating up on it and play. Once again- GOOD JOB!

Thanks Harry!  I probably will just leave it alone at this point.  It should be stable enough and temps are excellent.

I will try to play some BF4 over the weekend.  Hopefully I won't get anymore BSODs.

Re: Is it worth it to upgrade from 6gb of ram to 12gb???? 2013/12/09 22:09:34 (permalink)
My brother in law played some BF4 Saturday night and I played for about an hour tonight.  Zero BSODs.  Game played smooth with no crashes or errors to speak of.

I lowered my GPU overclock slightly since I am now concerned about them degrading since my cpu has appeared to have done so quickly.  I didn't back them down much but I lowered both their max boost to 1189 from 1202 and the memory from 7200 to 7000.  They were both stable at clocks slightly higher than that but since a small decrease won't effect performance much I figured it was better to be safe.  My 3dmark11 score went from the low 15000s to the high 14000s.  Nothing I will notice in normal game play.

I was thinking of going to 12gb 3x4gb. But for some reason in my task manger, memory only shows 4086mb as max but everywhere else shows 6gb. hmmm?

Are you using a 32 bit OS? Did you mean 4096? If you're only showing a total of 4096, you might have an issue with your memory settings in the BIOS or perhaps an issue with how your CPU or memory is seated.

Nope, I am on Vista Ultimate baby 64bit. And I have removed and reset these sticks several times so I think they are all in right.

What do you currently have installed? What does the bios show for amount of installed memory? Have you ran memtest?

FAI, I bought 2 sets of the Corsair Vengeance 1.5V 12gb sets and put in 2 of our systems. One in a EVGA x58 sli3 @ 1600mhz, and the other in a ASUS R2G @ 1502mhz. Both sets are running at 9-9-9-24-1T and have been error free. I'll give them a .

I am running 12 gb of corsair triple channel memory. didn't see any diff hardly going from 6=12 gb. I game ! I did try to overclock cpu with memory @1600 MHz  and had trouble keeping stable. dropped down to 1366 and was fine intel recommends 1033 MHz I do believe.

Most people won't notice a difference between 6GB and 12GB, but your hard drive and certain applications will. With more memory you have less read and writes to your hard drive or SSD. If you work with Photoshop large resolution imagery then your rendering will be faster.

I am sorry to dig up an old thread but I figured I would add to it.  I have had a few completely random BSODs.  They have been extremely rare and very random but always when just surfing the web.  Most of them were stop 0x7a, as far as I remember, and tonight was 0x4a.  I know that someone in this thread recommended that I change from 1t to 2t so I did after the 0x4a crash tonight.  I don't know if that is the cause of my random and rare BSODs but I will update this thread as time goes on.  It might help someone else like me that added 6gb of ram to their existing 6gb.

Re:Is it worth it to upgrade from 6gb of ram to 12gb???? 2014/04/10 17:14:01 (permalink)
I just upgraded my ram from Corsair Dominator 6GB (3x2GB) 1600 8-8-8-24 to Dominator 12 GB (3x4GB) 9-9-9-24.

It would not post until I reset the CMOS. It's now running at 1066mhz. It's been so long since I've tweaked the BIOS can someone recommend a few changes I can quickly input and move on with? I know certain computers can go faster than others but a few recommended settings changes would be great.

All I know to do is set the RAM frequency higher. (I read the above posts, just wanted some direct input)
