XrayMan I agree with Maniac. Get a CM case. Sure Corsair is a good company who makes good Ram. But for cases, forget it.
I have the Corsair AIR 540 and it cools great.

HeavyHemi Psst...snipping tool. So much easier.
man i'ma total nub when it comes to this stuff. "it's tough to teach an old dog new tricks." but i'm learning :) i've been doing this for about 15 years now, i guess it's time for me to finally "get it." hahaha! edit: i never even knew there was a "snipping tool" in win 7 LOL! just googled it and am watching a video on it.
I use it a lot. Very handy tool they put in.

brownsfan70 this is the score i got when i OC'd the card 1 time with a 4.2 (3930k) cpu OC +103 gpu clock +404 vram with max power target and temp in precision, i think it was 105 and 95C.
Well if your using Precision, then thats part of your problem if your adjusting power target and temp targets.... Do you live in the U.S.?

yeah, i live in ohio. it's actually still cold here and snowed 2 days ago. so it's not the environment, it's the damn boost is what it is LOL! that facker just wont stop boosting until it hits 82C, the only way i can get the temps to stop rising is to either set the fan at 84% which will stop the heat at right around 76C, i believe it was. or i can use the auto fan curve that came stock with precision which will let the temps rise to about 76C also and the fan will spin at about the same speed, around 84%. or if i want it cool, i manually adjust the fan from precision and up the speed from 84% on up. if i run it at 100% it stays right around 63C. when i bought the card i was kinda hoping that it would run at about 70C-75C max load and with a not very loud fan noise, but it just hasn't ran cool for me so far. i can deal with the fan noise when it's spinning at around 50%-63%, but if it goes higher than that, i'm starting to not like the noise level.

no man. that was one overclock attempt. and the fan was at 100% when i did that. i just posted score to show what i got when i OC'd it. all this stuff i've been talking about is at regular stock power target and temp target of 82c. i set it back to default after the one single OC attempt i did. i live in ohio and it's not hot here.

Brownsfan, sorry you are having so much trouble with your TB:SS. Let me share some of my experiences with the TB:SS thus far. I too have noticed high temps (TMax: 85C), but ONLY during bench-marking (Unigine Heaven, Valley and 3DMark), otherwise, my temps are well below 70C during gaming with all settings on ultra. My GPU fans are set on auto as well to compensate for an evenly distributed temp:fan speed ratio. So yes, the noise level does go up incrementally as the temps rise and the fan speed increases to compensate. From what I have read from other owners and reviews, the temps we are seeing are consistent for the TB:SS. Have you had the opportunity to actually do some gaming? You may want to test the TB:SS during gaming to see review the overall performance by way of temps, fan speed and noise levels. You have to understand that bench-marking will push your video card to the limit. These programs are designed to do so. With that in mind, expect your temps, fan speed and noise level to increase significantly as well. Most, if not all air-cooled video cards when pushed to its performance limits will be both hot and loud during bench-marking. However, the TB:SS has enough power for daily gaming purposes to not have to work anywhere near bench-marking levels. Lastly, I am not sure if I have either grown accustomed to the noise levels from my gaming PC, but I do not honestly seem to notice the noise levels. And I do not notice the noise at all when I have my headset on during gaming sessions. However, my current gaming PC consists of an H100 with dual top-mounted 120mm radiator fans in push/pull configuration, [2] TB:SS with stock fans in SLI, CoolerMaster Cosmos-S case with 200mm side fan, [3] 120mm fans (exhaust, top mount, hard drive) and [1] Corsair Airflow Pro. I highly recommend increasing the flow to your case. Yes, your case may be in a "bench-mark" setup at the moment, but there is not much air current flowing through and pushing the hot air externally. Essentially, most of the heat generated remain ambient and stagnate, despite the open panels. The other day, out of curiosity, I placed a small Vornado table fan pointed inwards through the open side panel and that alone dropped my GPU temps by 5C at idle! It is worth a shot to increase airflow. I truly hope we can all help to get this resolved with you, as I know how much you have been wanting, waiting and searching for this card.

After helping the OP his card is now performing perfectly with full boost clocks and temps never exceeding 70c Its quiet too The issue was some non standard changes in Precision and his NVCP Resetting the NVCP to defaults and properly uninstalling Precision (removing saved data) and a correct reinstall and setup with a slightly stronger fan profile fixed him right up! He reports that the fan noise is quieter and his temps are now spot on during Heaven 4.0 runs (below 70c)

Benchmarks and most modern games run best with default NVCP settings Precision works very well, but many users do not understand that making changes from defaults can have dramatic and unintended effects... In the OP's case the cause of the fan ramping/noise levels was due to incorrect adjustment of the fan polling rate and attempting to keep fan speeds low. Simply restoring Precision to defaults and making the fan curve slightly stronger, produced a large temp decrease and a reduction in fan ramping and this resulted in lower noise levels It was a pleasure meeting the OP and working with him on this issue. I am glad we were able to get him up and running properly with his new rig

Excellent! I just tried doing the same. I uninstalled Precision, reboot and re-installed Precision from EVGA website. Default settings were already preset and I immediately noticed that fan speed is at 28% despite idle temp at 42C, which is more than likely due to the fan curve option box to "enable software automatic fan control" being OFF. Where do you suggest to increase the fan curve?

ok, hold up import. thanks for the concern, bro. i got it figured out now. maniacvvv just helped me out bigtime! no problems now! heaven is running at 68C and won't even get to 70C! nice and quiet too! "BOO YAOW!" dude is straight up cool! i guess i had my precision settings screwed up, not sure how the hell that happened... *cough* (obviously from me screwing with it), but the fan speed was out of whack with the temps and voltages. so he hooked me up and everything is great. this is the card i thought i was getting when i bought it! ohhh yeah, it's kickass!
last gaming card i had was a BFG 7800gs, that was way back in like 2004-6 or something... things have changed and i have come to learn that this is not the type of card to just go messing with like back then. when i bought the titan black i was like, "ho hum... it's just another video card, i'll plug it in and f#@k around with it and see what happens, just like i did with all the other ones back in the day." BZZZ WRONG! lol, i had no idea this thing was such a high end work of future tech. and i also didn't understand the function of the gpu boost 2.0 either. ok.. i kinda got it now, it's definitely not what i thought it was or why it is there. i'm not hating on it like before, my bad! so thank you, maniacvvv! thank you so much dude. you frikin' saved me a lifetime of never ending "bad hair days" with your tips and help, man. wheeew! what a relief! my TB SC is now purring like a kitten (sound), running as fast as a cheetah (speed) and operating as cool as a penguin in antarctica (temps)! It is -critical- that during the Precision uninstall, that when the box pops up asking to "save" data you switch the answer from the default of YES to -NO- as this data file can be corrupted and/or settings changes will be passed on to your "new" Precision reinstall. It is recommended to uncheck the RTSS addon during the install and to leave Precision completely at defaults except for "start with Windows" and a fan profile. *For the the Fan curve we used 40% to 50c and then 80% fan at 75c If any changes have been made in the NVCP Manage 3D settings panel (Global or Programs tab) the "restore" button should be used and then hit OK

IMPORTEKNIKAICR So, not sure if this means anything, but I just ran a bench-mark on Unigine Heaven, without OC on CPU/GPU and my TMax was 82C and auto fan was 84%. I am seriously concerned about the ambient temperature in your case if your fan speed is 100%.
ok, hold up import. thanks for the concern, bro. i got it figured out now. maniacvvv just helped me out bigtime! no problems now! heaven is running at 68C and won't even get to 70C! nice and quiet too! "BOO YAOW!" dude is straight up cool! i guess i had my precision settings screwed up, not sure how the hell that happened... *cough* (obviously from me screwing with it), but the fan speed was out of whack with the temps and voltages. so he hooked me up and everything is great. this is the card i thought i was getting when i bought it! ohhh yeah, it's kickass!
last gaming card i had was a BFG 7800gs, that was way back in like 2004-6 or something... things have changed and i have come to learn that this is not the type of card to just go messing with like back then. when i bought the titan black i was like, "ho hum... it's just another video card, i'll plug it in and f#@k around with it and see what happens, just like i did with all the other ones back in the day." BZZZ WRONG! lol, i had no idea this thing was such a high end work of future tech. and i also didn't understand the function gpu boost 2.0 either. ok.. i kinda got it now, it's definitely not what i thought it was or why it is there. i'm not hating on it like before, my bad! so thank you, maniacvvv! thank you so much dude. you frikin' saved me a lifetime of never ending "bad hair days" with your tips and help, man. wheeew! what a relief! my TB SC is now purring like a kitten (sound), running as fast as a cheetah (speed) and operating as cool as a penguin in antarctica (temps)! ZOOOOOOM!
That is excellent. Props to him! Looks like I need to do a bit of tuning as my TB:SS are in the 80C range during bench-marking.
maybe it's the same problem i had. i had precision screwed up and didn't even know it. i had to uninstall it and do a clean reinstall. it asked me something during uninstall and i had to click NO. i kinda forget i was told to do there and there was a couple important steps involved... damn.. getting old, my mind just isn't sharp anymore. one thing i found out that i do remember is that if you install any new drivers for anything turn off precision first or it can screw up all the settings. crazy right? but yep turn it off first, even on regular windows updates... it's going to take me a while to figure this out, but since i'm pretty much stuck in bed because of my injured back, i have all the time in the world to figure it out. sigh... i wish that computer stand would hurry up and get here, i can't set it up in my room until it arrives... it's like being a kid waiting to go to the amusement park all week long, i just cant wait! i guess i'll screw around with civ 3 and fallout: new vegas at a whopping 40fps/720p on this laptop until then. d'oh!

Glad you're good to go, brownsfan70. You can always try using a custom BIOS (not sure any are out yet) to get rid of GPU boost 2.0, in addition to overclocking that beast.

holeyguy66 have you thought about liquid cooling it. i dont have the new black series but im having the same issue with the one sc thats not liquid cooled. waiting on my back plate to add it to my loop. my card that is liquid cooled does not throttle back at all temp wise. i had an issue of it throttling due to the tiny power target. i think the only way to get rid of gpu boost is flash the cards with third party bios. which i am going to do in the future just a little on the scared side with the amount of money spent. i do agree that gpu is a waste but at the same time its a baby sit program from what i read on it. it can be handy but for us who wants all our power it sux
appreciate the reply, holeyguy66, thanks for replying. but no. water cooling is out of the question. for $1100, the cooler supplied should be better or they should at least give us an option to turn off the gpu boost with an acceptable low fan speed that isn't too loud and keeps the card nice and cool. the only purpose the gpu boost 2.0 serves (from what i have seen so far) is to ramp up the voltage, clock speed and heat until it reaches the target heat temperature which then, in turn, downclocks the card so it doesn't overheat. after it does this it tries to boost again just to overheat and downclock yet again even though it has already reached the temp limit from the previous boost/temp limit in the first place. this is the dumbest and most pointless "feature" i have ever seen in any video card ever. it's an absolutely pointless and self defeating concept that is also an exercise in futility. amd did the exact same thing with the r9 290x. i just don't get the point of it all... seriously. if i wanted a card that runs slower i would have just bought one for a lower price with a lower clock speed rather than spend $1100 for a absolute beast of a card (which it is) that downclocks itself (thus ruining the point of owning one) to the same speed of a $500 card. it's like a bad joke or something...
i agree you would think for the price we paid the cooler would be better. but i always liked messing around with liquid cooling any way so the cooler regardless was coming off.

brownsfan70gpu 2.0 boost is a completely self-defeating concept. I agree but i think it was just advertising something free from nvidia gpu's, a bit of a gimmick really in my honest opinion, and yeah in most case scenarios with my gtx 780's it defeats the object. The only way to keep my gpu's cool and have the higher boost speeds is to enable a much higher fan profile which makes way too much noise, anything above 60% fan speed for me is a no go, in fact 60% is too loud for me.

XrayMan I agree with Maniac. Get a CM case. Sure Corsair is a good company who makes good Ram. But for cases, forget it.
LOL--> Coolermaster HAF XB evo is the case he is using, and setup correctly its loud -without- a videocard From his reported temps he must have the case fans and H100 fans setup incorrectly
the case is open like a test bench and even with it closed there is no difference with the temps. the case fans are running fine and i don't have an h100. the cpu is generating nearly no heat and is running at about 46C full load during heaven 4.0.
Believe it or not, running the case without it buttoned up actually ruins the air circulation/pressure setup that the case was designed with/for. Im not sure how your case fans are setup or how many you have, but unless your running them all on full blast with it open, theyre pretty much useless. Well, if theyre right next to the thing theyre cooling then that's not the case, other than that though, no good. If you plan on leaving it open your going to need a 20" box fan to compensate.

This makes me wonder if i am having an issue too. I never really looked into it but my card is always running at the 82 C temp, which means i bet its throttling like the OP was and i haven't really noticed. I have a 780 TI @ stock, but i may have messed with precision at one point too. I will have to take a look now, and try installing everything and starting fresh. Also need to buy a side panel fan for my case.
