I just bought 2 PowerColor LCS AXR9 290X 4GBD5-WMDH/OC Radeon R9 290X 4GB 512-Bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 HDCP to put to the test AMD for Folding or NVIDIA. I will add them into the X79 Classified Motherboard with the i7-3930K CPU and 16 GB of memory. CPU Motherboard and GPU all under Water.
My compare will be between the 2 GTX 780 (i7-3970X) and then 2 GTX Titans (i7-4960X) All on Water and on X79 Motherboards.
Testing starts next Weekend.

Glad to see you're not getting bored there bcav!
Thought you were going to be taking it easy with the folding for a while?
Sounds like a great test tho. Looking forward to the results.

Huh, 290x vs regular 780 and Titan instead of 780 Ti and Titan Black or whatever the Titan fullGK110 is?

I'm interested, but I thought the competition was 290x and Ti.

I am but today it is only 26F outside and you hit 200,000,000 Milestone Group This week, and you are getting a little close.
I have had an eye for a while on the cards and also I said I would never buy an ATI card again, but it is now AMD.
My love for NVIDIA will never end but I still want to Fold on at least one GPU Rig and if that happens to be and AMD Card this I might as well go all the way. Sorry but not I will still not mine for coins. Anyway I need to stay on the Top 20 Somehow.

The Titan, 780, and 780Ti are all GK110 GPUs. Also I do not have a Ti to test.
Not sure on the Titan Black but have no plans on getting any.
Their really is no competition when it comes to Folding in the long run, it is not like gamming and hands down NVIDIA Wins.
Now if FAH built projects based on Gamming then we would not have the issues we now have with having to use outdated drivers.
Is what I am looking for really is to complete ONE GPU Project between 8-10 hours and not 13-22 hours, this way I can Fold overnight and not during the day in the heat.

    Very interesting bcavnaugh.
I hear ppl do prox 200k PPD with the hula hula card.
Just to make a guess, I do think the 780/ Titan will have the upper hand there, but then there is the wattage and temps remaining to see.
I also hear they crunch well. There was some BOINC issues, but they where solved in the two latest releases.
Good thing you have nice and cool night temps, just like me. This night was just below freezing point, and with a small opening in the window the working temp was perfect.
Looking forward to see some R290X numbers and thanks for sharing this knowledge

    Thanks,
It has a flow meter 3 temps one on the CPU one on the Back Plate and one in the Water Loop controlled by the Reservoir and Pump, RP-1250 by Koolance.
I should get the rest of the part for the GPU Water Loop this week. I will be controlled by CTR-CD1224 12V or 24V Pump & Fan Controller With Display also from Koolance.

It would look much like my current  X79 Classified  Rig with the i7 Extreme Edition i7-3970X CPU.
This new one will only have the i7-3930K CPU.

Tested the Motherboard and Memory have it overclocked to 4.4GHz and memory at 2133MHz.
    I ran Prime95 in sets of 10 x 4096 4 x 15000 20 x 2048 Max temp on any core was 60C so now I have a stable EVGA X79 Classified Motherboard ready to go.
Over the day or 2 I will install the LCS AXR9 290X cards and I may make into the TZC with this Rig before it ends in 6 Days.

Had some leakage with the SLI Tube it was new but have had issues with them before 3 times before Brand is Swiftech.
I had gotten one from Koolance for a backup and I am glad I did, the rest of my parts came in today so I have to let my MB Dry out before I can power it on. Here it is running the pump no leaks and cleared out all the bubbles.

Here She Is: HFM Foldit 2 x LCS R9 290X Slot 00/01 I do have AMD CrossFire™ Turned OFF.
She takes about 580 Watts to Fold on both GPUs. I am not yet Crunching on the CPUs because the AMD driver is not stable and I had to reduce my CPU Down to 4.3 GHz down from 4.4 GHz.
Here are my benchmark scores: 3DMark 11 P20110 Fire Strike  1.1 15792 I am NOT Overclocking the GPUs because I am unsure how too and I do not want to fry them.

I use clear Tubing so I can seen when it gets really dark I change out the tubing.

1 of 2 have completed need 3h 45m more hours to complete the 2nd project.
So far I going with NVIDIA as being a more stable Folding GPU ATM that is.

Only to see if I get one per FF I AMD cannot run them.

I still think I either need to use an older driver or a newer Beta Driver if I stay Folding Beta.
My Max time on my GTX 780 was 3 Hours 12 minutes.

I really want to see a Core 15 on a AMD GPU.

Ew.  Why?  Just...why?  My 7950b picks them up once in awhile.  Goes from ~80k ppd to sub 5k.

I believe that would be a core 16. In my experience with AMD cards, I have never gotten a core 15. I don't think it is possible. Either way, it is lousy points

So Core 16 is would be the same as Core 15 on a NVIDIA Card, thanks for that update I is a new world Folding with an AMD Card.

My bad, yes I was thinking of core 16 for AMD. All I know is...core 17 good, all others bad.  Really bad.

That is surprising they are not doing well. The 7970/7950 were brilliant folders for their price (before the mining craze rose prices). I found best performance using beta drivers but running just "client-type" "advanced" or no flag. It doesn't seem to download the beta core. I have only had experience with 7970/7950 so far.

I should have some R9 290's (non X) coming, unless the seller backs out (Joys of eBay). I will be able to have a closer example at that point.

Core 16 was actually worse than core 15, in points difference from core 17, but if i recall correctly, it paved the way for all the openCL optimizations we see now.

You know so far I the R9 290X is less then well lets say a GTX 780.
The last Credit for my 2nd card was less the 12,000 but then for QRB it did take almost 7 hours to complete.
WARNING:WU01:FS01:FahCore returned an unknown error code which probably indicates that it crashed
    WARNING:WU01:FS01:FahCore returned: UNKNOWN_ENUM (127 = 0x7f)
    And
    WU00:FS01:0x17:ERROR:exception: Max Retries Reached
    WARNING:WU00:FS01:FahCore returned: BAD_WORK_UNIT (114 = 0x72)
    Did not help.
I will set the client-type to advanced and test tomorrow to see what happens.

P9201, Now I would call them the second generation of the Core 15 P8018. But that is part of Beta Testing.
