This is a hypothetical question.

If hypothetically speaking, You came across $90,000 in cash would you buy a nice expensive car or would you use it as a down payment for a house? The full balance MUST be used on either a car or a house.

If you HAD to spend it on a car, Which one would it be?

1) Car or house
2) Which car if you HAD to choose a car for $90,000?

You should answer both questions just for the heck of it :)!

Edit: I'll be back later tonight to read the responses, I'm leaving for Tijuana to pick something up ;)!

A House is the more practical option, and will keep it's value much better than a car of course.

For a car, I'd go with something in the Lexus LS series, I rode in my dad's Lexus LS and it was a very smooth ride, that said, I don't drive so sporty-er options are lost on me entirely.

Use it for a house. That way you'd have a better chance of not completely loosing your butt on resale down the road. But if for a vehicle, I'd love to have The Hennessy VelociRaptor 800 twin turbo. Here's the 600 horse version. The 800 horse kit costs $55k on top of the truck. But I work at a Ford dealer, so I get employee pricing on the truck

Down payment on a house!? Where I live, you could buy very decent 3 bed 2 bath house outright. I'd take the house for sure and if I had to buy a car for $90,000.... I'd either buy a cool rock crawler jeep or a 1968 Chevelle with a huge big block, fuel injected and completely modernized. Or I would figure out a way to make more money by getting a sweet limo with a pool or something and charge a grip for people to ride in it.

    A house...

I guess if I had to spend 90 grand on a car it would be a Benz...  Maybe a 500SL or the G-Wagon...  or something of the sort...  It would have to be a used b/c you cant get either of those for $90,000.

I'm sure you know this, but with the exception of specific classic cars, there is no worse place to put your money than a car.  They are just depreciating assets...  You will more than likely make money on a house as long as you do the due diligence required to make a good decision.

I can never bring myself to spend more than $30,000 on a car...  I just can't mentally or financially justify it.  Cars are generally a waste of money.

House - thats a no brainer. When you purchase a car. The MOMENT it is registered to you... it loses at least 10% value because it is now USED. Even if you dont drive it. House... now that can gain value over time.

Now, if I had to get a car. Nissan GTR (I would pay the rest of the cost)

House for sure, if I owned my own house I would never have to work more then a part time job for the rest of my life... If I wanted a little extra money (say, to buy a nice car) I could work full time and save it up.

    My Laptop (GE63VR-7RF):
    -7700HQ.
    -16GB RAM.
    -GTX 1070.
    -128GB SSD.
    -1X 1TB 7200 spinny drive.

Personally I would just go straight up half n half but you leave me no choice!
I could have a fully loaded car out the door with about half left on a house down payment.

But if all 90k, to a house. Almost 1/3-1/4 of typical large house paid off already, I'm sure the monthly could come down to something more reasonable.

But if it were me, I go snag a car(~45k), pay off the debts(which isn't all that much) and place the rest into my savings.

23k for a car, 45k on a house down payment, 22k into savings.

If I had to spend all 90k on a car I would buy a 2013/14 GT500 & have 30k left over for mods for it, talk about one beast GT500.

You can get a VERY solid used vehicle for under $15,000 if you have cash and you don't have to finance it. With cash, you have a lot more power to talk down a seller for price on a vehicle. I couldn't bring my self to drop $90,000 on a vehicle off a car lot. I would definitely find something I liked and dump a bunch of money into upgrades and put back like $5000 for a decent used economy car to get you around while you have your car in the shop. I'm curious what the insurance premiums would be on something like a Corvette Z06 and someone in their 20's... I assume it's probably the amount of some peoples car payments every month, but it doesn't go towards anything.

Really, that's living in the clouds with money that should be put into a house that is actually a investment... A car is a means of transportation, don't make it into a status symbol, it's such a waste of money.

Some of us don't want to drive 15k cars, those cars are ridiculously crappy and old. When someone considers upwards of 40k on a car, they don't look for something solid, but rather for something specific to certain features they want, speed, luxury, head turner, etc.

    Down payment on house.

Personally I would use the funds to purchase a house and pay the land taxes on it for as long as possible with the remainder. There are very decent houses here for relatively cheap and the taxes for the lands are reasonable. I already have a decent car that is paid off and I don't desire to have any payments in the future for my vehicle.

house, no doubt about it unless you have millions of dollars sitting around your bank account then buy a very nice and expensive car.

for me, that 90k money will be divided based on my needs and priorities. (how i wish i could have that kind of amount right now lol)

Neither. I would pay off any debt first. But thank GOD I dont have any debt to pay so thats out the question. But I would convert $40,000 of that money to gold and silver and other precious commodities. O ya dont forget guys once you buy that house, dont forget to cough up more money to pay your property taxes.  I bet at least half the members on this forum cant even afford the property taxes on a house alone. For a $250,000 house your paying an average of $5000-$9000 of property tax alone every year. But lets keep in mind it also depends on the city and area you buy your house.

I would not spend 90k on a car, I would maybe get a clone of that car like the 1967 Mustang Shelby GT 500 clone at around 30-35k.  The rest of the money would go towards paying bills, maybe a down payment for a house. But for now my Frank is good enough esp when he is butt-raping many a cars at the 40-90k mark, paid 11k for him and put just under that turning him into a monster=) He has already been given a couple sponsorships as well.

Given the low prices of all the houses around me I would buy a house for me and another duplex to rent out for 700/mo times 2.

RainStrykeYou can get a VERY solid used vehicle for under $15,000 if you have cash and you don't have to finance it.

You sound like a car salesman trying to get some commission lol

When I paid 30k for my Z i didn't look for a "solid" car, I looked for speed, performance, and feeling of a sports car. Never did practicality cross my mind nor that solidness you speak of. I've had close family friends make car purchases up there in cash, and once you reach a certain threshold you literally start looking for other things. I hate carsalesmen btw.

    1. Down payment on a house aka an old warehouse or fire station to convert to a loft.
    2. New M4 with whatever I could mod with left overs.

In all reality, I would pay off my student loans, credit cards, and car.( Yes, that would be right at or a little over $90k)

What's with all this "I'd pay of my debt" crap?!!? This is Amerika, we let the government take care of us, pay our bills, pay our gas, screw up our health, err I mean, pay our healthcare. Let the rich people pay off the debt - they owe us their fair share anyway.
