In addition to everything listed I would grab a WD 1TB Black hard drive for storage. Besides that it is looking good

So far so good!  I am not sure if the CPU heatsink/fan includes TIM (thermal compound), but I recommend doing some research and including that in the purchase list.  There are tons of research material and debates regarding TIM online.  I personally use Arctic Silver.

If i would to change anything out of what you picked  that would be PSU to something like new Seasonic 1000/1200W 80+platinum, excellent warranty, service its outstanding and power distribution its right top notch. CPU cooler I'm not sure, but thermal compound Gelid Extreme its excellent.
Don't rush, do research on pros and cons of some suggested changes, i think  even if you go with what you picked you cant go wrong, they all good components.

That all looks real good..What I would do now is download the manual and read it to familiarize yourself with everything..I would also update the BIOS and the drivers to the latest available from MSI (link)..Personally, I would would not install the 780 Ti until that's been done..The latest two BIOS updates are especially important because they deal with next generation processor support, VGA and memory compatibility issues..I would just use the processor's video through the board's VGA, DVI or HDMI ports for the time being until it's updated..If the board has an older or even the original BIOS version, it's entirely possible that it may not even pass POST with the 780 Ti until it's updated, hard to say..The latest BIOS will also include all the updates from the previous BIOS versions..Get the latest video driver from NVIDIA (link).

Just a few thoughts here that might save you some headaches and a few calls to EVGA and/or MSI support..Cheers.

Just kidding Vlada011.  However, that Asus Maximus VI Hero is a great choice!  I am still using my Asus Maximus IV Extreme-Z and it has been solid!

So true!  Patience is a virtue when building a PC.  From waiting on parts all the way to software/hardware testing.  Many times, we enthusiasts are overwhelmed with the excitement to build and forget the basics.  So often, problems arise due to incompatibilities in BIOS or driver versions, leaving us saying, "****?"

Just a word of advice on your first build.
    - Build it for you!  Sure, listen to advice, but ultimately, these choices are an extension of YOUR creativity/imagination and the final product is YOUR creation.
    - Always keep it simple!  When a problem arises, always go back to basics.  Often times, the problem has a "simple" cause.
    - Take your time!  Do not rush!  Be organized, methodical and precise.
    - This is your investment, thus, enjoy the process!  Pressing that "ON" button, gliding through BIOS/POST and starting the O/S for the first time is your reward!
    - KEEP US POSTED!  We love seeing builds just as much as we love building them!

I would have to agree with most get an extra hd for storage space. also do not limit yourself on ram go with 2x8gb stick kits so you can at least add more ram if you need it.

Get a bigger SSD than 128gb ... if you are installing all your games on it, you'll run out of space pretty quick.
    Get a 256gb - 512gb SSD

WOW !   Awesome replies. Thanks Guys...!

I was in such a hurry to make my first post here I for got to say a few things.

I will be putting two or three terabyte ssd's in the rig latter, but for now I just have to get it running for the price I can spare per component. I forgot to mention I only have 1500.00$ on a best buy card and some 600.00$ cash to work with.
At this stage I will put the biggest part of the build on the best buy card and into video card, power supply.

I do have a hard drive from another rig I will put in this rig, I cant remember the size at this time. Also a light scribe cd drive from the other rig.
I will save as much of the files to the old hard drive as possible.

I hope my thoughts about how I'm going around to building this rig are in the right order.
This will be a ongoing build with upgrades.

    :: Latter on ::
    Blue ray drive.
Faster and larger ram. Latter I will sell the ram I'm getting now.
THX certified sound card and speakers.
    Fan controller.
Quieter fans, and more of them.
    Xbox one controller.
Hopefully next year around spring I'll get a 4k display.

Hey,  you picked very good case, Trooper has great ventilation. Do yourself a favor and right from the start switch the HDD cages so you have air blowing across your board and if you really want to have good cooling change the front 120 mm fans to Gelid 120mm UV, they have great static pressure and are very quiet, you loose the LED but you will gain substantial airflow.
The stock fans are good, but i truly don't thing they blow as much air as they say and static pressure it's not as specified in spec ****. Ive done a lot research if its wort switching front cages and opinions very, but in my case before switch my mobo would run at 29-34C after switch runs at 24-26 and helps other components.
This is just little info, all entirely your choice.
    Enjoy

    everything looks great!

invest well on a excellent BIG pc case! trust me... i know!

i would go for a SeaSonic PSU - the platinum series.
and this might sound silly but if can get a 12GB ram kit instead of 8GB it would be nice since this is a new rig and specially if you're a gamer

what about speakers? what you have in mind?

humm.. 4 K display? well..  thats gonna be pushy on the card...
    when you gonna buy??
Don't forget Intel announced skylake CPU's for this year if not mistaken.

Also to give you a heads up Best Buy will price match Amazon prices if it's sold by Amazon. You will have to call the 1 800 number and speak to a online rep but it will save you $$$

Re: HELP BUILDING EVGA GeForce GTX 780 Ti GAMING RIG. 2014/04/15 23:27:44 (permalink)
My personal think is video card is most important part, but you choose and excellent processor and other things.
I think 850-1000W PSU is enough, I don't know price of Lepa 1200 but EVGA 850 or 1000G2 is excellent too, Seasonic too, CORSAIR too but little expensive in better class if you want to save money. But on motherboard you can't save money to. You can save on memory, case, keyboard, mouse, later buy some big expensive case. Motherboard can destroy you build and you will never know what cause problem.
I don't know how work MSI but I would choose Maximus 6 Hero over most expensive board from MSI, somehow give me more confidence.
That can't mean nothing, anything can happen with both but I have such experience simply. It's good because you choose GTX780Ti...
I'm not sure did you hear from Haswell Refresh and they need to show up very soon, I mean very, 4790k and other processor, I'm not sure for difference but you can check. Maybe even Intel give better thermal characteristics of Processors.
Whole new line, 27  new models and 17 for mobile I think.

Lepa G1000 MA only 200W less model than your have 8.6 score on Johhny Guru, 1200 model cost 200$
EVGA G2 have 9.5 score on same most famous site for testing PSU and price is very similar...
It's obvious both EVGA Platinum and Gold models are better than Lepa and 10-20$ price difference.
And warranty is 3 or 5 years less than EVGA 1000G2. EVGA 1300G2 is
30$ more then Lepa1200 but far better but 1KW=1000W is more than enough for you.
Lepa would be mistake over EVGA models.

Best is if you decide, I ask for advice and than I decide.
But if someone ask me I would change
4770k - Maximus 6 Hero - EVGA 1000G2 - GTX780Ti and price would be 30$ more than your choice but better.
With that components you can't better with Haswell, that's top.
And with 1000W you have space to buy one more GTX780Ti for 2 years for 300-400$ when price drop if you want, enough power.

What kind of PS work and video editing do you plan on doing? Hobby or professional? What resolution?

The ram will make a significant difference and from my experience, 8gb is just not enough to get the job done with current generation formats. I would go minimum 16gb or max it at 32gb if you can afford it. 8GB will cause you to bottleneck quite often with a 4770k.

Obviously software comes into play as well, if your primary software isn't 64bit, i wouldn't bother with 16-32 gb, it will never use it.

eww...  w8?  i won't never touch it with a long stick for that matter.  i am awaiting W9.  let's hope the new miscro$hit CEO learned with Balmer mistakes!

    Tim77 awesome thermal compound!
i am awaiting the exact same compound by mail thanks to scarlet-tech who was kind enough to ship me a syringe of it, 'cause there is no Gelid in Portugal!
im going to applied it as soon as it arrives cause my temps increased around 5ºC overall (ambient heat also due to summer for that matter).
had to raise my fan curve profile in precision to correct that. ( at least idle temps still maintain at ~30ºC)

if i were you i would go SeaSonic platinum (92% efficiency) all the way.
the 850W platinum is awesome and they are giving 7 years warranty ( not bad at all).
SeaSonic also have Sanyo-Denki Ace silent fans in these ones!

here's there Brochure for the 860W (71Amps) and 1000W (83 Amps) platinum PSU

    http://www.seasonicusa.com/PDF/Catalog/NEW/Retail/P-850-1000.pdf

they have a 1200W (100Amps) version of it but it's overkill  im my opinion hehehe!

    and..

    He bought PSU. Bad.
He miss 10 years warranty and for class better units because forgot to ask.
Never mind, but EVGA is now one of leader in PSU world. Super Flower have most Platinum units, I think more than any brand and they first register Titanium standard. I can't say Super Flower is No 1 PSU manufacturer, or Seasonic is No 1, or Enermax, Delta, all of them you will not wrong and freely can decide color of cables, price, warranty, PSU case or anything else because all of them is fantastic only with Seasonic highest chance for coil whine.

Get a bigger SSD than 128gb ... if you are installing all your games on it, you'll run out of space pretty quick.
    Get a 256gb - 512gb SSD

Samsung Evo's are pretty much the best SSD's out there for speed and budget right now. I saw a 256bg one on Newegg earlier this week for $139.00.

I would have to agree with most get an extra hd for storage space. also do not limit yourself on ram go with 2x8gb stick kits so you can at least add more ram if you need it.

This!  Try to get kit ram together, so that they are verified to work together from the factory. It will be a pain if you get two kits that look exactly the same, but they don't want to talk to each other exactly the same.  If you are going to get 16gb, go 2x8gb and if you decide to upgrade for 32 total (not needed, but I still loving having the extra just in case) then get a new kit of 4x8gb.  Other than that... I look forward to hearing that you are up and running..

As others have said, patience is VERY key.  Build it yourself, for the pride and learning aspect, but make sure you look at what you are plugging in where.  For Example, the CPU_Fan header is meant for the CPU fan, but the fan will plug in anywhere on the board, so make sure you are plugging it into the header it NEEDS.  Plugging it into the wrong one will cause issues, which is what happened to me the VERY first time I tried, and thankfully I didn't fry the chip.  Wonder why I didn't read the manual?  It was in Japanese... LOL..  I couldn't understand, so I ended up on youtube and they explain EVERYTHING that you can't understand right off the top..  read the manual, then go to youtube if you still need help.

Magnetic hard drive = normal old hard drive.
NAND is just a type of flash memory, in this case, its referring to an SSD.
Pretty much all that is saying is don't install your OS onto an external drive, though you probably could if you wanted to.

You are going to love having your OS on an SSD, just don't clog it up with too many other games and programs or it can slow it down once the SSD goes over ~80-90% capacity.  I've just got mine up and running in the past few weeks.  Windows 8.1 Enterprise on a Samsung 840 Pro 256GB, fastboot enabled and running Samsung's RAPID mode... cold boot in around 5 seconds.
The awesomeness has been known to cause mad laughter!
