The report, from app testing company Swrve (via Recode), kept track of over 10 million players for a period of 90 days. Swrve’s network consists of more than 30 games titles. Clients of the company include the likes of Activision, Epic Games, Gameloft, WB Games and ZeptoLab

    The developers know this too. This is why they refer to the small percentage of the people who do spend lots and lots of money on these games as "Whales" 
     
    They target the microtransactions specifically at these weak-willed people knowing that they will be the ones paying the lion's share of the money going to the game.

    Exactly what I was going to say.  There were even conferences at GDC called "How to monetizing the whales".

    Cannot blame them can you, the companies, they don't charge people a dime for their game, got to pay for those servers, the staff somehow, the ones that pay get an advantage while those who did not pay a cent for the game or anything, cry with pay to win.

    Pay to win will always win out unfortunately. I like the games that have micro-transactions, but those payments only buy you cosmetic things like a skin for a character or something related to that.
