*arcane gesturing and mumbling* 10 - Print "Hello world!";, 20 - Goto 10 - RUN! *dashes away as screen fills with text*

I got my start as a Commodore 64 hooligan

Power Basic I see, I know it well. That is the Spaghetti Code that is all I could ever do.
Mine was the Atari 800XL then then Atari 130XE and while in West Germany Atari 1040ST.
Came back to the states and then Commodore 128/CMP then on the my first PC the Commodore PC with a 10MB RLL Hard Drive.
That is when I stated using Turbo Basic that turned in to Power Basic, I sill have it but it will only run on Windows XP and Below and DOS as that is what is was made for.

Finally, with sign-ups closings being just a week away, I was wondering if anyone had any ideas to try to push awareness and get some more people involved. The more signed up generally means the more work that gets done. With the contest section being gone, some people may not even think to look for any events.

If we can dig up the list of entries from the last TZC, maybe we can get some volunteers from each time zone to PM the people from their respective teams.

Here's the thread from the last TZC which includes posts from some who participated.  I cannot access the official 2012 site currently, maybe the permissions changed or it no longer exists?

I cannot seem to get anyone within my IT group to even look at BOINC for Crunching, really not sure why.
I have setup at work my Crunching Coffee Cups and Badges and do get a lot of comments but no new memberships.
I had the same problem last year when I was pushing Folding@home now called the "The Fold."
I will see what I can do this week at work as we have till the 19th.

I tried to access the site earlier, and also got a permissions issue. We can only do so much to get the word out, and it will be a good contest regardless of the amount of sign ups. The teams are actually looking moderately balanced at this point.

Boy!!! that is a pretty short contestant list - mountains never had it that good

and i got a glimpse of the stats - even tho drougnor has the server updates down for servicing
It's like Im in the twilight zone and mountain is in first place - ok test run - but like I said small team big numbers -
like we got about 1/2 of mountain in contest - I doubt even 10% of east is signed up

Im all for stretching out sign up another week before contest - to let the other teams have a chance

PS: 64K memory PC's - try 4k iron core and PDP8 and paper tape/punchcards

Mmmmmm, PDP-8. A couple of years ago, someone found a small stock of the orig PDP-8 processors, built a limited run of system boards so people could make their own. Sadly, I was too broke.

I've got a merged list of 200+ contestants from previous TZC's and CC's.  If anyone has a few minutes to send 10 PMs today, let me know, and I'll send you a list of 50 names grouped in sets of 5 so you can just copy and paste.

Do we have a single scripted message to copy and paste as well?

Re: Official 2014 Time Zone Challenge Thread (Folding + Crunching!) 2014/04/14 08:08:55 (permalink)
I am sending a very short message.  These folks have all participated in contests before so they know the drill.  I use the subject line "2014 Time Zone Challenge (folding + crunching) starts in 7 days" and the message

"Please join us for the 2014 Time Zone Challenge. This year we are including both folding and crunching divisions in the competition.
See the thread at http://forums.evga.com/tm.aspx?m=2143564 for more info. Join in and help represent your time zone!"

Feel free to embellish as you wish.

Unfortunately the new forum software has some sort of bug or limit in the PM page so you can't actually paste a list of 5 names into the recipient list, because it cuts the list off; you'll have to type them or paste only 1 or 2 at a time.  You can still paste the full subject and message no problem.

Punchy, any chance you can send me a copy of the script you wrote up for the Crunching side of the stats? Very curious as to how it was done and if I can integrate it into my existing system.

Signed up, big shout out to Punchy for the PM.

Unfortunately had to shut down folding rig (personal reasons) and down to Q9400 for crunching WCG.

CRAP!  Just noticed that I have signed up twice, sorry guys can you update the sign up sheet to reflect only 1 signup?
Sorry for the extra work.

I removed the duplicate entry from the form. Thanks for letting us know.

Getting the word out sure helped the Eastern and Central zones, at least for folding. Good to see the turn out ramp up!

As we are now only 3 days from the start of the TZC, I updated the OP with the final details.

Sign-ups close at 12 Noon EDT (9AM PDT) on Saturday, April 20th. You will see this in multiple places, because I wanted to make sure no one missed it. It will be very difficult to include anyone after we pull the list for stats, so late entrants will most likely not be accepted.

I hope all your weather forecasts look as good as mine. Our highest high is 56F during the upcoming week. Now is the time to do your last rig preparations and get your new parts in!

Finally got all my rigs configured correctly and folding away.  Weather's not entirely ideal though, we'll be pushing close to 90s, but at least it doesn't look like there should be that many tornadoes during the challenge...
