Yeah, I would imagine there is a very definite learning curve going to LN2 (I hate being 100% serious btw ).  Why would they suggest not using your KPE?  Just not risk a top end card on a learning curve?  I get not learning on 4xSLI.
.
Million dollar question is, if you do go full LN2, what are you going to do with the Phase, Cascade you were talking about, and a chiller?  Try some Haswell benching?

Definitely agree with avoiding Pitfall's, I did terrible at that game.

Sorry, I had to, this is what popped into my head as soon as I read Pitfall.

That's what I thought, But I was advised by The People-in-the-know to start out with a GTX 680 Classified w/EVBot port, So I'm looking for that particular (and rare) card.
Funny thing is Half the 680 Classifieds I found for sale so far and PM'd them about this feature, did NOT know whether or not they had the EVBot Port on their card!

I will soon be using the New SS on my existing Rig, More than likely quite a ways into the Future along with my Chiller that was built back in 2008.
The Cascade that was built in 2004 would need some work/recharged and Load tested to be Operational again, But will still be around as I don't plan on getting rid of it as of yet, and NOW I have to start Learning about/find components/find funding and pay for a Future New LN2 Build, Albeit some time later down the road!

Come to think of it, I don't even know what the X99 Platforms are going to require when released later on this year, although I DO Know that the INTEL CPU's will use an LGA 2011-3 Socket that is COMPLETELY Different than the existing LGA2011 Socket MB's in use today.

So, The Answer to the Million Dollar Question is.............

Hard to imagine not knowing if your card has the most sought after feature of the entire line or not, but..... ok.

Well, whichever way you go, LN2 down the road, more Phase, get your cascade back up and running, I will folow the thread and comment along the way!

So do I, where do you think I remembered it from, Atari 2600 FTW!!   If you have a 2600, wonder if you could clock it.

After Installing the New SS, The Temps are holding Much Lower under Load, But After a Day of Testing/Benching it's beginning to become obvious to Me that No matter How much Colder with Phase Change Cooling or How much Vcore I throw at this 4930K CPU....... This Chip Just Ain't going to go Any Higher than 5.2GHz!

Yeah, I could take a chance and Buy another 4930K or a 4960X, But even that still won't guarantee any higher OC's, Although Sometimes you can get a Gem, But then again Sometimes you can get a Dud.

Looks like I'll be taking a break while waiting for the Next Evolution of CPU's, GPU's and MB's to be Released later on this Year along with reading some Reviews/Testing Results before deciding on what Purchases I'll make at that time.

It's getting about that time for a Little R&R down at the Beaches here in Florida........

I tried some 4930k's  bud, total voltage hogs, I mean they were just dogs. You have a real good one to get to 5.2.  My 3960x can do 5.4 on water, no idea what it could do with what you have running, but I suspect much higher.  I have seen guys get better results with the 4960x series but of course the cost right.

Re:Get It Colder II 2014/04/26 15:21:59 (permalink)
Yes, It does seem to need way too much Vcore for high OC's and I don't really want to get another new 4930K for $500-$600 and end up with one that's worse.
Also can't seem to see spending around $1K for a 4960X that May or May Not OC better either!

If I did manage to find a 3960X at a decent price it could probably OC higher than 5.2GHz, But They aren't much cheaper than a 4960X and I tend to believe Benching Scores would suffer as a consequence.

What temp are you at under load?  You are on a hefty SS Phase, so it's not LN2 but it is still dang COLD.

The New SS is at -40C at the Evap Head and holding the 4930K CPU at -10C to -12C (ASUS ROG Controller Reading) During the Fire Strike Graphics Tests.
During the Physics and Combined Tests the CPU temp rises Breifly to as much as +21C  which is MUCH better than my Vapochill XE was, But I STILL cannot get this 4930K OC'd more than it's Limit of 5.2GHz!

On the Brighter Side, I'm going to be receiving a "Loaner" 3960X which should be here Monday to do some Further "Testing and Development" and see if it will OC more than 5.2GHz.

Almost hoping its a temp limitation, then there is a reason to go to a Cascade, where the temp difference between that which is sustainable (ie not having to refill it constantly) is a lot closer to the LN2 temp which you need to be, maybe you just need to get it colder-er .

Oh I'm Pretty Positive it's due to a Temperature Limitation and although It MIGHT go higher on the Cascade If I were to "Resurrect it" as is, It would have to be completely redesigned for handling (and HOLDING) a Higher Heat Load than it was originally setup for with a Single Core LGA478 3.2GHz ES CPU and not the current Hexa-core LGA2011's.

Even though I have been discussing LN2 setups/What to Buy/How to do it on the Kinpincooling.com Forums, Obviously I'm Sure that You see by now that I REALLY don't want to use LN2 Cooling, JUST to see how close I can come with a "Conventional" Cooling Setup.

Besides having All that to worry about, I don't know what's going to work with cooling solutions for the Next Gen Octa-core CPU's/GPU's/MB's that are getting Ever so much closer to being Released?

True, I can definitely see your point, however, while it hasn't been announced, I would assume that the wattage output would be somewhat close to the current Ivy Hex cores, I know there is tuning involved with SS or Cascade, but, it might be something you start rebuilding now, and if it works on your X79, great, if not you can still have it prepping for X99.

As far as Cooling for the CPU, There would be somewhat of a problem to consider with additional Noise/Power Usage (Three refrigeration units running instead of the current Two), Although it hasn't Stopped me as of Yet from attempting to improve on my Testing/Benching Sessions every chance I get.

My Main Focus lately is towards finding better Cooling on the Graphics Cards using solutions that will work with Minimal Operating Maintenance in a 24/7 System, Since they definitely impact the Various Benchmark Scores based on High GPU/Memory Overclocks.

For Example,........ I was thinking (daydreaming) about running just a Single KPE using my Vapochill XE for sub-zero cooling and probably would get a Much Higher 1X GPU OC/Benchmark Score than on just chilled water cooling.
The Funny thing about that situation is I also happen to have Three More Vapochill XE's laying around, But I would have to find a different way to attach the Vapo head to the GPU if I wanted to cool more than One Graphics Card.

Call me Crazy, But I've even been considering PCIe RISERS for clearance purposes and I'm sure you could picture in your Mind what THAT System would look like!

Re:Get It Colder II 2014/05/05 07:07:28 (permalink)
While I was still continuing to think about using Vapochills for sub-zero cooling the Graphics Cards previously discussed before, I started wondering and researching once again in an attempt to learn more about the use of DICE and LN2 and came upon some interesting facts that had Not crossed my mind on the Cautions you must take when using these cryogens in an Enclosed Room with No adequate Ventilation OR even inside an air conditioned room in your Home!

I read that a researcher at a University recently experienced headaches, light headedness and difficulty breathing while using a centrifuge in a room which was storing just dry ice.
Although the researcher was able to escape with no effects, this hazard alert warns all persons working with dry ice (CO2) or liquid nitrogen (LN2) about the dangers of using them in unventilated rooms.
Normal air is made up of 78% nitrogen, 21% oxygen and only 0.035% carbon dioxide. If the concentration of carbon dioxide in the air rises above 0.5%, carbon dioxide can become dangerous as it is toxic and acts as an asphyxiant  (displaces the oxygen in the air we breathe). Likewise, liquid nitrogen expands to a gas and can asphyxiate an exposed person if the room is poorly ventilated.

This got me to realize that it's not just the hazard as I understood of possibly spilling/coming in contact with these cryogens, But since I am Always inside my air conditioned home (in Florida) with No open ventilation while running System benches for hours on end, there is a possibility of asphyxiation occurring if I were to use these cryogens for sub-zero cooling over an extended period of time while Benching!

There apparently is much more to learn about the Safe use of cryogens for cooling computer system components than I had even realized before, which now after being better informed is one of the main reasons I continue with my current cooling methods that you can run continuously without the possibility of Passing Out!

Thanks DaveB,

I didn't mean to get you so Excited that it made you posted Three Times! LOL!

Yeah, This 32nn 3960X is a little different Type of Animal than the 22nn 4930K, But it definitely requires some additional Testing.

I Managed to Push it a little further to 5.425GHz, But I'm starting to hit a Brick Wall OC'ing any Higher due to problems with Voltage restrictions on my ASUS RIV BE that won't allow any more than 1.6v Vcore.

Ah, The Life of an Overclocker is sometimes a long and tedious chore, But we all knew that when we started doing it, Right?
