Its not really about the garage door....its a tactic. I have a few guesses why they are doing it, but I don't know enough about the whole situation to comment further. Its kinda like when a woman wants to get a restraining order on a man and they start calling the cops on every fart he makes, so theres a paper trail. You gotta look at the story for what it isn't, not for what it is.  :)

exactly unions always have a ulterior motives to there moves you have to too get around politics!

I am a firefighter, and this does seem odd. Our trucks have their own openers, I can't imagine relying on dispatch to do it for me, much less trust a police dispatcher. Still I understand the labor dispute part of it, if the contract says the police dispatchers must open their doors, then the contract has to be followed. If one part of the contact is allowed to be violated (even if it logical to do so), then it opens the union to the risk other articles will be violated as well. It is the principle rather the issue itself.

I am a member of the Fire Service also.
But, I WOULD NEVER let something like Union Rules or a contract dispute over who has the right to open a garage door tarnish the Fire Service.
If that were the case here, THE UNION WOULD GET THE BOOT.
We in the Fire Service need to call BS on Union rules or Contract Rules that make us look like Idiots in front of the public we serve.
If we do not, the public will loose respect for us, and then, the Fire service will loose respect and funding.
Allowing a union to determine what a Fire Department or an EMS worker can do or how it can be done is flat out wrong. That was never the purpose of the union, and anyone who has agreed to let a union tell them what and how they can do what they do gets what they deserve.
If you are in the Fire Service and you allow Union control of your actions, Please, take the name Fire Department off your station so people doent think the rest of us are idiots too.

This is actually how ALL unions operate. When I was living in one of the strongest union states I had to wait for someone to pick something up off of the ground in order for me to continue my job. It doesn't matter if there is trash in my work area when I picked it up I actually was called a scab people in unions are sheep and manipulated in getting rid of their free thought.
