I am hoping nobody minds me asking a quick question about lighting in the system I have listed in my Mods/Rigs. I added cold cathode tubes for lighting a little while back. I found an old RAM cooling fan that I got years ago and put it in the other day because it matched the blue theme. Before I installed the RAM cooler, all of the interior lighting was reflected off of the case's white finish. Do you think having exposed lights on the RAM cooler detracts from the reflected lighting effects I had before? Thanks for any input.

Thank you. I +1 as many Mods/Rigs as I can find time to. I am pondering whether that RAM cooling fan should be removed or not. It's the only light source not reflected right now. The relected light inside my case reminds me of how a full moon illuminates the landscape at night.

I would keep it, never hurts to have a little extra airflow. If anything you could mod it with new leds.

Good point. I added a blue LED 140mm fan in the upper rear corner and two blue LED 120mm fans in the lower right on the case bottom to help light those corners. The LEDs on that RAM cooler aren't too out of 'character' for my lighting scheme.

I got bored and decided to start another build. I am rebuilding my first full tower build, Mab I, with my many spare parts. I haven't decided what CPU to go with yet. I should wait until I can afford a 3770k since if it overclocks well it will end up in my current rig, Mab II.

Thank you. I added two blue LED 120mm fans on the bottom right and one blue LED 140mm fan in the upper rear that balanced the lighting and got rid of the dark areas in those corners.

The Banshee
Updated Pics.

The blue fans stand out quite a bit, which I like. They also blow a lot of air.
I did a bit of cable management as well.

Next thing on my list is either a XSPC Raystorm 750 EX240 kit or a H105 depending on weather I want to wc my gpu or not.

Can I add my name to the list again. Project Ov3rKill has been parted out and replaced with a Red Build.
However they share the same PSU and CPU water block!

I will add in the new MR setups later tonight

Just a heads up, my trip in the UK was really nice

@ bcavnaugh

Three GTX 690's that is an interesting idea, two for Quad SLI okay, what's the other for? PhysX? Unless PhysX won't use both GK104's?
Anyways I have added that beauty to the list bud

Re:MODS RIGS, Get your +1 Here! 2014/06/11 11:01:06 (permalink)
Aiight, I +1'd a bunch I saw in this thread (nice).

Introducing Apollo 5.0. Not the prettiest thing I've done; but, after 6 years, 5 systems and $10,000+ in systems that sucked, this is the fastest.

Still in the Top 50 2-Way SLI on Firestrike (I was originally at #15 back in the day), and top 30 in Firestrike Extreme (last I checked).  And yes, reference air-cooled (2-way ACX coolers is horrible, yanked them off quickly - sitting in boxes in the closet).

I still haven't completed my custom TEC waterchiller project using the Dell OEM H2C system - been too busy with work.  That will clean up things nicely.  3D modeling is fun, but didn't like the casting tests I got for copper and silver.  May have it milled next.  So for now, a cheap H80 keeps the Ivy Bridge-E @ 4.7 tamed - bleh.

Ignore the white wires - they are thermal probes for the RIVBE's remote monitor.

ModsRigs link under avatar, and in sig.

Sorry that I didn't take pics of the modifications to the reference cooler and rear backplates (added additional heatsinks to both, increased thermal capacity).

All in all, the temps are much much lower than stock, matching the ACX coolers' performance on a one-on-one basis.  With two ACX coolers though, that was just too much heat being dumped into the chassis - even with 6000 RPM server-grade fans.

(previously...)

I once dropped $1000 on a watercooling setup that looked awesome; but, performed like ass (micro-stutter with tri-monitors and 3-way SLI).  That kind of wrote off watercooling for me.  Also, I didn't realize how much heat would be dumped into the chassis from having two large 280s up front like that.  Whoops.

Re:MODS RIGS, Get your +1 Here! 2014/06/11 11:04:05 (permalink)
FYI, I reported a bunch of ModsRigs bugs to Robba.  For example, you can only perform any action ONCE per several minutes.  Try it.  Give someone a +1, then try to browse any other rig - random rigs.  You'll notice that they all say "System Rated" when in fact I have never seen that rig before.

If you wait 3 to 5 minutes, per +1, you'll be able to +1.  After about 30m and updating my post, I +1'd as many as I could before getting too annoyed.
