So randomly my gpu has stopped working ever since I tryed to install a new driver today. I have Windows 7 64 bit.
 
-I've ran administrator and uninstalled old drivers turned off my anti virus and it doesn't work. 
 
Did a custom install on the nvidia experiance. It said Graphics driver failed.
 
Went to device manager to try and update the card that's when it said the error access is denied contact manufacturer.

Perform a system restore back to a date when the drivers were able to be installed without issue, then try installing the latest driver after the restore is complete. Make sure to do a custom install & only install the graphics driver & physx driver, don't forget to check mark perform a clean install.  

I don't have a system restore point to go to. Because my hard drive space was filling up fast.

Goto add/remove programs and remove all nvidia based software then reboot your computer. Let me know when you are done.

Open device manager and expand display adapters. What does the display adapter list as? It should list as "Standard VGA Graphics Adapter." Is this what you see?

It shows as unknown device. Thats when I tryed to fix it earlier tryed update drive software uninstalling. didn't fix it tho. Maybe I have to turn it back to Standard VGA graphics adapter? how would i do that.

Still shows as unknown device with the same exclamation point by it.

I was able to get the OP back up and running on driver 332.21. His system had serious registry & device manager issues combined with windows premission issues, the system still has premission issues and will need to have windows re-installed at some point to correct the premission issues, the OP is still able to switch drivers but has to go into safe mode to do so and use the device manger to remove/install drivers. 
 
Drivers 335 & 337 would not install due to the drivers missing the OP's 580 hardware ID's inside the nvidia setup information files, as you all know nvidia locked these files in software to prevent users from obtaining 4-way SLI with the GTX 780's when they were first released, nvidia now has these files completely locked down due to people being able to unlock 4-way SLI by modding the setup files, we cannot even add hardware ID's to these files anymore because nvidia has chosen to lock them because of individuals unlocking 4-way SLI without nvidia premission back when the 780's were not suppose to run 4-way, this is causing a major problem, if nvidia forgets to add the hardware ID's then the user cannot install the driver and is forced to use a older driver, not good at all!

Saijin, I'm having a similar issue, any chance you could help me with it? driver stuck on standard VGA, gives me access denied when trying to update through device manager. Attempting the WHQL fails as well.

Give this a shot and let me know if it worked for you...
 
#1 Run DDU to get rid of all NVIDIA software on your PC. Select YES when asked to reboot into safe mode. Run DDU & Select Clean and Restart (Highly Recommended).

 
#2 Run command prompt and type in "sfc /scannow" without the quotes & hit enter. Make sure to run command prompt as administrator. How to access command prompt windows 7/8 ***This step should be done in normal windows mode.***


 
#3 Reboot into safe mode. How to enter safe mode windows 7/8
 
#4 Run sfc /scannow again. Make sure to run command prompt as administrator. ***This step should be done in safe mode.***

 
#5 Perform a manual installation of the latest graphics driver. How to perform a manual installation of the latest graphics drivers ***This step should be done in safe mode.***
 
#6 Run the graphics installer setup.exe to install PhysX. The setup.exe can be located at C:\NVIDIA\DisplayDriver\347.25\Win8_WinVista_Win7_64\International\Display.Driver\. Select custom advanced install when the graphics installer starts, under custom installation options uncheck all options except the physx system software, if you are using audio over HDMI please select the HD Audio driver, if you have a 3D capable monitor and would like to use 3D at some point select the 3D Vision driver also, check mark perform clean install, then click next to install the driver, reboot when asked. ***This step should be done in safe mode.***
 
#7 You should now be able to uninstall and reinstall your graphics drivers normally without having to go into safe mode from now on. 

Nothing abnormal up to #5. Im currently in safe mode. Should I just follow the directions as bes as I can to manually install? Im using Win 7 64 bit. I think those instructions are for XP?

Alright, bad news, step #5 is where it went wrong. Label of display adapter in device manager appear as Standard VGA Graphics Adapater (Image 1)
 
After running the manual install, it gave me an error. The title reads 'Update Driver Software - Standard VGA Graphics Adapater' 
"Windows found driver software for your device but encountered an error while attempting to install it.

I then continued with the next steps and tried to install from the NVIDIA installer, Graphics Driver Failed, everything else - not selected (image 3)
 
Finally went back to normal mode and I'm back to square one with a Standard VGA Graphics Adapter under Display adapaters (image 4)
