Does anyone know what ram work with this board? Im looking for 24GB of ram. Ive tried a few and didnt have luck. 


Any info would be great.

I have used Mushkin Redline Ridgeback #999000 DDR3 1600. 6x4Gb sticks for 24Gb total. Stock settings 7-8-7-24-1t @ 1.65v Zero issues.

I edit on media composer, AE and premiere.  I also do the occasional 3d work on maya  More ram the better.

Even if you don't OC your CPU, using that amount of ram may still require a VTT voltage bump up from the default setting.  I would think about a +25 to +50mV should be enough.  If you happen to have a chip with a strong memory controller, it may not be necessary.

I have the original evga x58 sli . I have done extensive research on the triple channel memory options and have come to the conclusion that
The Corsair vengeance is going to work well, getting 3 sticks at 4gig each . So 12 gig should do fine for now on this gaming rig. Another triple set to make 24 is an option but would be overkill unless you really need it . Another Option I had read about was Muskin Enhanced Redline , it was designed to work with the X-58
but I did not like the odd clock speeds and the higher voltage of 1.65 .
 
Corsair I mentioned also known to work well with X-58 and has better timing as well as the voltage of 1.5 , its also the highest rated for performance and quality.
Reviews I have read say it works as advertised @ 1600mhz without any adjustments to the bios on the x58 (by default Bios memory setup on auto detection)
The X-58 can thump with the rest of the big boys out there today. If your going for performance the top 3 choices are Corsair, Kinston Hyper-x, and Gskill
ripjawas. DDR3 1600 that runs at 1.5 volts is what you want to get the most outa the cpu and lifespan of the rig in my opinion.
 
Also Keep in mind that either 1 or 2 sets of  triple channel is best . If you install say 4 or 5 memory sticks , 3 of those will run on the triple channel spectrum while the other will be isolated causing the rest of the ram to run at lower clock speeds, you will have the extra memory, but the clock speed will be lower. So 3 sticks , or 6 sticks with a total of under 24 gigs , but 12gig should do just fine If you really want to take it easy on the lifespan of the mobo , another option is to fill up the 6 dimm slots with 2gig sticks that run at 1.5 volts , I have read that its best if you like to preserve the life of the motherboard . Also keep in mind that the bios version 82 and later supports the 24 gigs of memory , Bios version 81 and earlier only supports 12 gigs . I have 82 , there is an 83 update but unless I see problems I will not do it .  Have had my x58 for 5 years now and not a single hiccup.
