I do notice a lag, however, anywhere from 5 - 15 seconds, where utilization drops to 0%.

If this is happening on even percentages of the WU's progress, then it's just the core stopping to make a checkpoint.

Thanks.  I'll check on it.  I hadn't noticed it before and then was checking the information for my last post - that's when I saw it.  It was either very weird or perfect timing.

ok, so re-installed .NET 4 framework, upgraded to version 7.3.6 of V7 and re-installed nvidia drivers.
I think it was the .NET 4 issue (no .net 4 issues in the Windows error log before I started folding this month with 8900 units) which is odd because I did manage to complete 2  8900's in between all the failures - maybe those units just didn't use whatever was not installed correctly

Hope this fixes my issues <cross-fingers.jpg>

bobalee = that drop-off in usage that you see is the core writing the checkpoint to disk.  If you have your resource monitor open and look at the disk usage, you'll see it spike a bit when the GPU usage drops.

Hope the issues are now fixed for you as well.
I had read somewhere that .NET 4.0 Framework is a requirement for all this to work correctly
and is why I had ask if you had it installed.
I don't think the W7 service pak has any effect since I have all W7 updates turn off and never
update those on any of my systems and all the ones that can work these are without problems.

seems I'm going to have to give up on these.

failed 3 since I did the reinstalls, I just don't know/understand what is going on.
I find it hard to believe it is the cards, since both of them complete standard workunits without a problem.  I've underclocked the 660Ti ..................

hmmmm, may have found something. I didn't realise just how overclocked my card was. Even at -97Mhz in Afterburner, it's still boosting to 993Mhz which is still more than the 980Mhz reference boost.

Ok, one more try.  Going to have to wait a bit as it's doing a 8074 now....

what a pain.

<edit>
ok, here we go, dropped the card all the way back to a boost clock of 967, it won't go any lower no matter what I select in Afterburner (It was running at 1137, then 1100, then 1050 and failed on all of those)
hoping for the best!
2nd edit - I officially give up, these things will just not run on my rig.  No idea why.  I'll throw in the towel until I have time to format and re-install windows; that's the only thing i can think to do at the moment.

eeesh, it may very well be that I am a complete idiot.
Well, I am an idiot: it remains to be seen if my recently discovered idiocy has caused my problems.

Pro-tip, when you clean your radiator in your internally mounted H100, make sure you put the fans back on the right way or you may overheat your motherboard (VRMs)

Success!
Seems I had a combination of issues.
1. Faulty install of .NET 4 framework (came with latest nVidia drivers)
2. did not reduce my overclock far enough
3. over-heating motherboard VRMs due to my idiocy.

I've fixed those issues and have now completed 3 without a problem, even been able to put the GPU (660Ti) back to 1071Boost clock.

Same crap happen to me the other day on a WU for over 13,000 points. It dumped the WU after completing it. It was not an 8900 but I was still pissed.
All the sudden the release of these 8900s has just screwed my PPD. I went from almost 75k PPD to right at 50k PPD. I had to remove my beta flag on my GPU b/c I kept picking up the 8900s and they were scheduled to complete in over 1 day time. That is totally not worth it to me.  It looks like anyone with Fermi's is getting completely screwed over now.

it is time to switch gears, build a dedicated system with a 7970 and a 2500k/2600k to just fold non-stop. Whatever points I get from it, it will do.

@clo007, consider lowering the CPU even more and doing GPU folding. I think it was someone on Overclock.net, but it was a pretty new 1155 Sandy bridge dual core and 2 7970s, he was pulling less then 300 watts and netting well over 200k PPD.
So far with the few units of these I've done my Titans seems okay. I had a crash last time, but I'm positive it was instability in my CPU that caused it.

I will either find a way, or make one.

Dude, I am running a i7-970 at stock 3.2ghz on SMP 10 and GTX580 @ 900 core. Wrinvert set me up last month and I was hitting that 70-80k PPD  and after this 8900 came out, I have been fubared.

I am running the 580 on core 15. I keep picking up these 8084s. They are like 3000 points each and then get some random WU that is 13000 points but takes 9 hours to complete.

my SMP WUs are just to poop right now. Not sure what the deal is.

It's just PG being PG.  Core17 is the future just as -bigadv is favored.  The other cores will still run, but they won't be big points.  I suspect anything less than NV 6xx or AMD 79xx will suffer from now on.

core 17 is no good with Fermi cards.

seems the only SMP project running at the moment is 8084, which isn't the best for PPD return.

I don't mind workunits failing every now and again, it's super frustrating when they doit after 9 hours of folding though.

On my 560, the 8900 is comparable to the 762x wus but I haven't been getting those for awhile so I'm sticking with the betas.

Woke up with 2 new 8900's running a TPF >8 minutes (very low for me) and after using pc for web surfing, e-mail etc. the TPF was >13 minutes. Stop using pc and TPF drops a lot. Looks like this WU takes tons of system resources and if other apps are used the TPF suffers.

I am sure that depends on your system. I am folding with my CPU10 and Titan and the GPU has been doing 8900's for days now and just earlier today I was watching a movie (1080p on 2560x1600 screen) and browsing in between and my TPF only droped 3-4 sec on the 8900 WU, from 2.45 to 2.48

Simba123 Well, I give up. seems no matter what I do, they crash on my rig.
I've completed one and crashed about 25 over the last day.
I have no idea what is wrong.
I was getting overclock errors
fixed that and then I get these instead

FS00:0x17:ERROR:exception: Error invoking kernel execFFT: clEnqueueNDRangeKernel (-5)

FS00:0x17:ERROR:exception: Error invoking kernel gridInterpolateForce: clEnqueueNDRangeKernel (-5)

FS02:0x17:ERROR:exception: Error downloading array energyBuffer: clEnqueueReadBuffer (-36)  - 46% completed

WU00:FS00:0x17:ERROR:exception: Error invoking kernel calcCenterOfMassMomentum: clEnqueueNDRangeKernel (-5) - 72% completed....

WU00:FS00:0x17:ERROR:exception: Error invoking kernel copyDataToBuckets: clEnqueueNDRangeKernel (-5) 31% completed

and so it goes on.

I have no idea.
Hi Simba!
(please forgive me for my bad English, but I´m a German living in Friedrichshafen/Bodensee))

I use a GTX Titan too am i´m crunching the 8900er Wus and would like to comfort you, because you´re not the only one in the world having these kind of problems with them.

I´m getting the same kind of errors like
08:43:25:WU01:FS00:0x17:Completed 1000000 out of 2500000 steps (40%)
08:45:11:WU01:FS00:0x17:ERROR:exception: Error invoking kernel execFFT: clEnqueueNDRangeKernel (-5)

The error massages always beginning the same: "Error invoking kernel...", the following varies like "computeNonbonded: clEnqueueNDRangeKernel (-5)" or corresponging to the error messages you´ve gotten and as you have postet here in this thread.

I´ve tried using different Drivers, as the 320.18 is causing many differnt problems, but 314.22 unfortunately isn´t a cure either. I´ve repaired/newly installed .net framework 4/4.5 and have reduced my OC down to stock clock speed.
But after some 8900 which fold well, I regularly get these errors back and the Titan has spend time and current for the garbage can.

After all I´m of the opinion, that these problems with our GTX Titan are due to the beta8900WUs and their core 17 kernel.

Did you made any progress in thoublesooting our issue here?

Greeting!
Dominic

here's an idea try the titan in another rig.. (find a friends/family member with a rig that can handle it )

if it works while folding on it... then it's not the card

System stability is important considering we are using opencl and it requires significant system resources (rather than just GPU now)

Hello Dominic,
I did solve my problems.  I set the card to -20Mhz below stock speed.  Re-installed the .Net 4.0/4.5 Framework, re-installed the core17, and most importantly (I think) fixed a cooling problem for the VRMs on my motherboard.

good luck!

I keep seeing .Net stuff mentioned.  That is just required for the Nvidia control panel.  It has nothing to do with folding, and does not effect driver function.

All of the clxxx errors are openMM --> openCL computation errors.  They are hardware related, usually due to clocks being too high, but I've also read of people having issues with the pcie gen3 hack (which does nothing beneficial for FAH anyway).
