Especially for you EVGA GTX 780 Dual Classified owners, like me, someone just posted an "ah hah" tip over on OCN.

Download NVIDIA Inspector: http://www.guru3d.com/files_details/nvidia_inspector_download.html

Once it is open, hover your mouse over the GDDR5 text for memory type.

BAM!  No need to remove the cooler!

EDIT: added download link, and a screenshot of one of my 780 Classifieds, both with Samsung memory!

The fact that someone decided to research this and let our forum members know about it and also post screenshots make this a valuable post to many who have had questions about their memory manufacturer.

Am I not on topic? Every similar topic before this has concluded that the brand of memory makes little difference and luck of the draw still applies; and every similar topic has concluded that no matter which brand of memory is on the card, the card still works as designed and is what the purchaser paid for. Rather than coming to a different conclusion, this sort of thread creates jealousy and contempt instead and does not offer any other benefit to the card purchaser.

I am trying to steer this thread to that same conclusion swiftly so few users will have to open pandora's box of remorse and synthetic feeling of less worth.

Pretty stupid reason, he didn't find it. He was looking through a thread on OCN and copied the post. By your theory I should have 100 BR for posting new drivers because it took me a hell of a lot more work to do. New drivers benefit users more than knowing their memory type.

I'm with who ever was complaining about these threads. They are stupid and redundant.

Re: Find out your RAM type, without removing cooler! 2013/11/17 20:22:43 (permalink)
I don't need to look that or to remove cooler at all, but never mind only to people see...I'm not crazy man and I know when graphic memory is worse than on GIGABYTE reference model. I know to OC graphic card, very good and I know when something is not possible... on 1.15, 1.5 or 2V... That's only prove how EVGA don't care for Classified as before...

I mean over +250 is not possible... without OC GPU,with LN2 BIOS, with EVBot or not and people who get Elpida memory if someone ask me are screwed. People who talk about + 500 on Eplida memory, some even about +700... Isus can tell me that I will not believe until I see in reality. That is not possible!!!... This type can't that, or they use some other kind of Elpida memory...This type NO WAY. AND EVGA PROVE THAT WITH HYNIX. That's same as you as HyperX to make result as TridentX and binned Samsung Chips, exactly.

EVGA sell someone one, to other people something else and yes all manufacturer have 2-3 type of memory but ask ASUS maybe they want to put same type in stock and in ROG models, no way. One type is for low cost models and other for premium.

I know many people thought What he didn't opened card and he complain. I didn't know brand...I know something inside is very bad for stock model.
And reading what other people talk I knew everything and without looking. Good memory must give 350-400 without increase voltages... and than you can recognize space for something more. This was wall. And that wall is maybe possible to brake with LN2, I don't know, I have no experience with freezing I can't bet and than on water and air, no way. With normal Samsung Memory I could pull 600-700 points more in Unigine Valley, with Voltage Controller and something more with EVBot. That's not small number to screw someone with that with premium model of card. Even with not special graphic chip. With some good chip, more than that. With fan on 100% that's not in danger temps even on 1.3V on air.
Immediately when I searched GPU Clock first and when cross on memory and saw orange and green cubes characteristic for overclocked memory and freezing in stability test on +260 I knew bad memory type is inside.

Maybe I and deserve this because with patience look other people with Classified and wait 3 months to buy EVGA's premium model looking other people how play on GTX780.

We looked into this and can say that it is accurate. It is reading the memory info directly from the memory strap within the VBIOS.
