In typical Bethesda fashion you're presented with a huge open world to explore and an interesting storyline.... and also like them the game is chock full of so many bugs its laughable. Seriously why do you guys keep buying these games?

Oh well, what are some good mods for this game?

Honestly, I have always decked out my Bethesda games with mods, but don't really remember my favorite ones from FO3. I would recommend, as the above user did, to take a look here. Those are all generally the ones you're going to get recommended to you.

As for why we keep buying these games: It's because they're amazing . I'll take a couple of bugs any day (most of which are fixed by the community in unofficial patches) over having to play the large amount of trash that exists in the gaming industry today. I played hundreds of hours in both Bethesda Fallouts and even modded my FO3 so much that it crashed once every 30 minutes. All in good fun, I guess :P. It is silly how Bethesda can't fix some of the most ridiculous things though, isn't it? Clipping through geometry, invisible walls, physics engine bugging out and sending everything into space. All fixed in unofficial patches, but still funny that they manage to make it into the game of course.

A few highly regarded mods for FO3 from modders I like for ES.

Unofficial Fallout 3 Patch (should fix your bugs I would hope)
Project Reality
Dynavision (dynamic depth of field)

I didn't let the bugs stop me from playing these games, I got like 600 hours in each seperate game, Oblivion, Fallout 3, New Vegas, and Skyrim.

They are seriously very immersive and addicting. Don't tempt me.... I might go through them again lol

as for Mods

NMC's Texture Pack
http://fallout3.nexusmods.com/mods/12056

Alton IL (100% Community Made DLC like expansion) just as good as the official bethesda DLC's
http://fallout3.nexusmods.com/mods/16949

its really the only 2 that I use for that game.

Why do we keep buying them?  Because they're fun, even despite the bugs.  Oh, and because they have major replay value, and also because Bethesda seems to be the last of the major game companies who actually doesn't mind having a modding community.

Yeah, it's just single-player, but for some of us, that's all we want.

I had bugs in skyrim too, but then again I played it during launch so they may have fixed most of them after I was done.

I agree, multiplayer is a joke.  If I want more swords in combat, I'll hire a bloody follower.  My statement of "just single-player" was just that: mentioning that the only thing the game has is single player mode.  I actually would rather have it with only single player: I hate other people ruining my fun and stealing my epic loot.

F03 is easily one of the best games ever made. Much better than New Vegas. Bethesda hit it out of the ballpark. Make sure you get all of the DLC!

I have to go back to FO3, I kept on getting game breaking stuff in the beginning, looked good, went onto other things with the intention of returning and never got around to it.  So far I have been loving FO:NV, haven't beaten it yet, but Skyrim has taken up a lot of my time as has other games, but I plan to return to FO3 as well.  I sent a copy of FO3 to a friend when he was on deployment, something to do in off time, and he swore by it, talked heavily about how much he played it.  Especially loved Mothership Zeta.
I have been a HUGE Bethesda fan since the mid 90's, Daggerfall and never looked back.  There are bugs, but I will gladly play through games that are that fun, with that much content, that much freedom and just deal with the bugs, just save frequently and you are good.

A lot of bugs for me also but they were corrected when I did the modified INI file option. Talk about a more enjoyable gaming session. Wow. Instead of saving every 20 seconds, it's only pre battle with strong opponents or when a lot of time has elapsed.

I have FO:NV and it is fun but IMHO FO3 is better.

I  bought the GOTY edition when it was on sale.

I will agree with you guys that this is way better than New Vegas with the storyline but i'm getting bored with seeing the same areas being reused over and over again. Maybe that's just in the DC area... and also the difficulty is absolutely ridiculous compared to other Bethesda games. I couldnt complete the mission where you have to get the radar dish from the museum without using command cheats, way too many overpowered enemies for this early in the game.

As far as the mods go I installed the NMC texture pack and didnt notice a big difference, also the reanimation pack appears to be broken. One more thing, how do you run in this game? The key settings say to use L. shift but that makes me walk very slowly.

You complain the game is buggy. Have you ever played BF3???

The bugs in that are game breaking an everywhere, and the DEVs don't care. Plus there are no Mods allowed, so no fixes.

blachsapphire,

To run in this game you need to make sure that the caps lock key is not engaged. If it is engaged you will be in the walk mode.

You need to explore outside of DC and take on weaker enemies to build your XP up. It makes it easier to battle those tough opponents. Also, if you have high karma, beware of the Talon mercs as they are tough and run in a group of 3 members each.

Yes I have BF3 and actually stopped playing it cause the patches broke the game for me. I complain because there is not a single Bethesda game that i've ever played that wasnt chock full of bugs. The game actually just crashed on me.... sigh

did you get the archive invalidation tool? http://fallout3.nexusmods.com/mods/944

also you will need the 4GB address aware memory patch for the fallout 3 game exe since the texture pack needs beyond the 2GB memory limit

That was one of the bugs that I battled a lot of. I ended up doing a INI file mod that essentially eliminated that problem for me. Made a huge difference too.

I have only encountered one bug with that game and so far I have enjoyed fallout 3 way more than new vegas. Imo New vegas was created with consoles in mind and that alone. Fallout 3 is playable without mods but new vegas ,,,no way jose. I had to install like 5 mods to just make it look somewhat decent and fix the input lag and 3rd person cam angle and view. Also they should just drop the "true" iron sights because their game engine allows for any npc or even yourself to just slide right along the surface as if it were made of ice. But yeah I plan on going back thru fallout 3 with visual mods at some point.

I still cant get the game to run for very long without crashing. I've tried the multi-core fix, i've tired a modified DX9 dll file, i've tried the extended ini file, i'm getting so tired of this crap i'm about to just uninstall the game. I cant enjoy it anymore without constantly worrying about the game crashing and losing my progress.

Black look for any mods that prevent crashing\fps lag. I have one installed for Skyrim and the game runs better for me. Heck as a avid F5er of Bethesda games I don't need to hit F5 as much in Skyrim as I used to in their other games cause of the mod. Although I still do hit F5 a lot. Skyrim has some...nasty...battles. Essentially what the mod does is takes each cell and wipes the previous cell information or something along those lines. That's what causes the game to crash so much. It's pretty much information overload since the outdoor zones are made of huge cells.

Have you tried playing with SLI disabled? I do remember this game having issues with it

a single GTX 570 is more then enough to run Fallout 3

No more SLI since I sold one of my GTX 570's but yeah one is definitely enough. The game stutters and runs choppy, i've tried every fix I can find and nothing works.

Tried running Fallout3 and Fallout3 launcher in Windows XP (SP 3) compatibility mode with no luck.

All this talk is gonna make ne have to reinstall FO3.  I didn't get the last two DLCs but what I did play was a blast.  Is there another one in the works?
@ Black don't forget the sex mods.  Funny as hell!
