also you will need the 4GB address aware memory patch for the fallout 3 game exe since the texture pack needs beyond the 2GB memory limit

I didnt see this one first time reading your post and havent heard anyone else mention it. I gave it a try and so far it seems to be working. I was able to play for 1.5 hrs without a crash so fingers crossed that fixed it.

I've played FO3 and all the dlc through a couple of times. I'm playing New Vegas now. I might just try some of the mods for FO3.

Glad its working out for ya

it was needed for the texture pack mod, but great to make the overall game more stable as well.

Should use it on Oblivion and New Vegas as well, Skyrim already has official 4GB support

Yeah man played a lot last night and didnt crash at all. It may have been needed for the texture mods but it was still crashing/freezing all the time before I installed them. Really enjoying the game now

Bethesda really needs to incorporate some DX11 tessellation into their games. Just a little bit on characters and some textures (rocky terrain, brick walls, etc) and higher resolution textures. Throw in a couple fixes like the 4Gb patch and yeah i'd probably pay a full $60 for one of their games.

Agreed, I still buy their games, I love the depth, one of the most creative game developers these days, but their games tend to be bug ridden, and have been for 15+ years that I have played them.  I'm a sucker for Bethesda's TES and now FO series, but I am with you, some bug fixing and some improvements to the graphics, allow it to be dropped to where it can be dropped to now for a broader customer base, but man, a DX11 checkbox would be awesome.

The engines aren't built on DX11 so you won't see a tessellation patch.  Character models are fine in Skyrim, FO3 is just four years old or something.  I'm sure the next TES (not online) and Fallout will have tessellation and other DX11 effects, since they're being designed for next gen consoles and PC.  Of course they'll still be buggy, but they've been improving.  I haven't had many big issues in the 450+ hours I have in Skyrim, and I use over 30 mods.

I will say Fallout 3 and a few of the xpacks were fun. I enjoyed NV more since the dev studio behind that game paid more attention to the actual Fallout lore.
