troy8d It wasn't directed at you personally, but it was a situation that occurred among a handful individuals last year. Its nothing against crunching either, both crunching and folding are noble causes and everyone is encouraged to contribute what suits them best. I did not say anything negative about crunching, simply pointed out that crunchers typically have additional hardware at their fingertips that isn't devoted to folding. I believe you may be overreacting a little. Given the system we are using, I personally believe it is better to be slightly on the underestimating side than overestimating side - but ideally you want to be relatively close to accurate. No over reaction. At least my intentions are not that. The main goal is the real focus. However... Last year was the first year we Crunched. We have had this issue for years. Yet that is not your focus? Crunchers are? Not to mention we have a handful of active Crunchers vs. folders. I can name the handful of Crunchers that over over producing vs. the majority of the regular Folders... Your opinion or focus seems/ed biases or weighted in that context. That is my reason for responding. Placing all of your reasoning at the expense of Crunchers is a falsehood. No to be misunderstood as an overreaction, but rather a zeroing in on the error. The issue is with the emotion of a challenge during any competition. Not Crunchers potential production. In the end, many do not like seeing their production not help their team win at full face value. The other end of the spectrum is how to balance the teams so one or two do not walks away with the chance to win. Almost a no win win... I love the effort and attempts made in order for it to be fair. There is a lot to be said for the efforts you are putting into this, and I am not wanting that to be overshadowed. My comment is just in response on one that you made. Nothing more. The calculation you created seems to work just fine. If there is any negative. It would be from where I sit... The winner is already in 1st place. Because no amount of productivity will catch them as it becomes counter productive. So really, what has happened is an old school timing race. Those closest to the PPD estimates wins... I played with the calculations a bit. I can stop producing for the team and have no ill effects for at least a week. As a result, I have placed my production elsewhere to still help with the 1 Billion goal... That is the result of My mistake, not that anyone else made it or that the calculation is the issue. It is mine. This is how I am choosing to still help. So if I had any suggestion at all it would be this... Let this run just like it is, capture the scores and rankings... Then for the last week of the Competition... Release the hounds. Let all the teams produce what they want with no restrictions. Keeping the focus on the 1 Billion... Weigh that production into the first three weeks to produce the winner... Off the wall thought, but only about the goal of 1 Billion.

Oh that's not right! That strayed away from the normal quickly . I think you're on the wrong team Tex, Here want to borrow a straight jacket? Maybe I should wrestle you into one for a while anyway. Ohhh...you have no idea. Love to try the straight jacket some time, but can't get it over the one I already have on. You wouldn't have a pair of scissors would you? I just need one good arm free to drive the car with. Don't worry we're not crazy, but don't make us pull the chicken neck back out. Truth is, we'll take Mad's underwear just to see what happens! This is a crazy team that loves cars and has no fear of claws...we kinda like 'em... If you take his underwear you'll be... Blinded by the light, revved up like a deuce, another runner in the night. Bright white moon it's blinding! ARGH! I've got claws too, lucky for you the full moon has passed haha , I'll still use them, and I'm a biter.

Weigh that production into the first three weeks to produce the winner... Off the wall thought, but only about the goal of 1 Billion. You are certainly right that it is not restricted to crunchers, I didn't mean to single them out as the sole cause. If that is the way you interpreted my statement, then I apologize. I was not at all trying to blame them or give them a bad name. (I do run some wcg myself). In the past, however, intentionally misrepresenting points has never been a huge problem. Nor was it last year - at least not intentionally. People would often go out of their way to increase their production during a contest whether its the impetus for the upgrade you've been contemplating, a reason to dig out that old system you retired, ect. And I've seen several people mention that they're contemplating bring new hardware online, but not sure if it is worth the payoff. Its very disheartening to see that, because any hardware added to either folding or crunching is a win. Whereas switching between the folding and crunching is a zero sum game in my opinion (either way science/humanity wins), bringing new hardware online is a win for everyone. I'm completely open to any suggestion that will improve things - I realize its far from perfect. A thought that is kinda a combination of your idea and my previous thought: what if every week team captains have an additional 100,000 (or more) reported points to add to any combination of folders on their team. Essentially, each team started with reported PPD of around 1.5 million and would end with reported PPD around 2 million? (The way to catch the current leader is to have all team members produce as much as possible rather than relying on a couple overproducers to dominate - the combination of the two allows a bit of both to come into play.)

I love the smell of burning sugar in the morning. I hope you don't mind, but I put about 3 pounds of sugar in each of the gas tanks I could find. When I ran out of sugar, I just started putting holes in the tanks.
