Alright, so I'm going to be swapping out my new 1200 P2 for an identical unit to see if the issue I'm having is actually related to the power supply (it's one of those weird "it's-working-but-still-doesn't-seem-quite-right" sort of things... long story, different thread).

Anyway, I've always run my PSU with the fan facing down so that it a) won't rob air from the video card(s), and b) will get fresh air from outside of the case.

But this new power supply has the modular connections reversed in comparison to what I'm used to. If I flip it so the fan is facing up, then I'll be able to gain some much-needed slack in the cables-- which will help me keep the wiring inside the channel behind my motherboard.

Thoughts? Suggestions? Rude remarks? ;)

I have some of mine up and I have some of them down.
When I have them up I place a filter on top to keep items from falling in.
You have to also look at the air flow, when up it will help pull put warm air from the case. Remember equal pressure.
When you have it down most cases have a filter on the bottom to keep the dust bunnies out.

My 500R is currently loaded up with fans... all fan mounts are occupied except for the extra intake on the bottom (no room due to the power supply). That's two 120's in the front, two more 120's at the midpoint on the backs of the HDD cages, plus a single 120 at the back. Then there's two 140's in the mesh opening on the side panel, and two more 140's at the top (where the closed-loop rad would be if I used one). That's four in, three out, and two pulling air through the middle. The PSU is currently pulling through the bottom, so it doesn't really contribute to the airflow. The front and side intakes have DemciFlex filters on them.

As for crap falling into the PSU when the fan's facing up, the integrated grill on the EVGA units is pretty substantial... plus it looks like there's a clear plastic shield between the fan and some of the caps/components underneath. But that is also another reason why I always try to keep them facing down; even though I have everything tightly secured, you never really know until the unthinkable happens.

Between the cable connections, the cables themselves, and this fluctuating power thing, I'm really starting to question this particular EVGA purchase... I definitely haven't gotten much joy out of it so far.
