Well, about two weeks ago my GTX 560 Ti FPB started showing artifacts. Got an RMA authorized, sent it in, and today, I got my replacement refurbished card back. I noticed my PC was making some clicking noises under load, and upon closer inspection, I discovered the video card's fan is the culprit. The ticking noise is more frequent when the fan RPM's are higher.

Has anyone here had this problem and fixed it themselves? I hate to say it but another week or so of downtime would suck (having to use other people's computers sucks too), so I'd like to see if I can fix it myself (while retaining warranty?), or maybe get a cross ship RMA.

You sure its not a mechanical hdd? Clicking type sounds will usually come from those in the beginning of them getting ready to die, before they move to crunching. The fan may be barely touching the sticker that's on top which covers the whole heatsink shroud. There was a whole batch of cards that had that problem awhile ago. It could also be that the shroud itself wasn't put back on right and is offset slightly and the fan is barely touching that too, since these are refurb cards. Check all the screws and make sure they are tight on the cards back and front. Other than that, the only other things I can think of are foreign objects or wires from another component too close to the fan or the fan on the card itself, which has 3 screws usually that holds it down, could be loose and its wobbling. Or a bearing in the fan is wore out. That's all I got for ya man. :)

Its not any of the other fans, hdd, odd.

I did a once over on the card when I got it in the mail, and everything looked to be in place and in good condition, it even came with the protective film on the stickers. I'll double check all the screws are snug.

    edit: better video

Took the shroud off the card, and took a close look at it. Didn't find anything abnormal, PCB and heat sink are very clean, no dust/debris to get caught in the fan. I did notice that a few of the screws on the back had stripped heads. I made sure the ones with good heads were snug (with the correct size Phillips...), and they were.

    Still makes the noise :(
