Ugh I was watching some poor Twitch streamer spend a chunk of their time doing the repetitive rescue the settlers quests from Preston. I think next month I might get a psychical copy of this game.

I decided to ignore Preston by not talking to him after I rescued some settler or killed some Ghouls for them. When I ignore him and go about my business exploring I occasionally have a brief message flash in the upper left corner of the screen alerting me to some problem at a settlement. If I miss it or waste too much time doing other things I get a message that my quest to rescue someone has failed. Oh well. The Commonwealth is overpopulated anyway! LOL

I'm not sure if this has already been discusses on this thread...considering there are 10 pages on it, but I'm going to mention this anyway. This latest patch is bogus from Bethesda. I cannot use SLI on this game. After a week it finally occurred to me after I have plundered through so many forums trying to see why the problems were happening....

The problem is the game will randomly crash without notice (sporadically), straight to desktop, and will give you no warning, no reason, and no explanation on why the crash happened, just straight to desktop... Finally found out that it's an SLI issue. With 1 card, no problems whatsoever. I hope that Bethesda sees and acknowledges this error, but only time will tell. Maybe it's a driver issue... but no, all apps/programs work fine, but this one in SLI, no way.

Disabling SLI solved the problem. I found other posts from other players and support forums having the same problem.
Someone is stripping my Power Armor. I have two suits missing the helmet and now one suit is missing a right arm and a right leg too. The 'peasants' don't seem to be bothering the armor parked in a power station. I might have to put my foot down and scrap all of their beds to build some Power Armor stations. That'll let them know who's the boss around Sanctuary. Let's see how they like sleeping in the dirt for a few days. LOL

yeah, see.. you have the situation I have. It's Bethesda latest patch. They just killed SLI completely. Please refer to my previous post on this as well. With 1 card, it works great.

FYI, can't remember which building it was, but I found a building which was controlled by a bunch of raiders... I found 1 bolt action rifle which does double shot, and another rifle that adds +10 energy to each hit with the possible chance to disintegrate on kill. I'm loving the bolt action short barrel, .50 cal. It just sings lol.  The action rifle is alright, best in close range. Put a short barrel on it for better hip-shot...it's good. Not sure if you guys do the same technique, but I gather up all the ammo that I do not use, and just sell it off so I can fund (without paying for) the ammo for the .50 cal and my .308. Unfortunately so far I have learned that .45 is more expensive than the .50, so I have to use my action rifle less than my .50 cal. Hopefully the next couple levels I gain and add to that "selling perk" (I forget what it's called) will help that out when I purchase and sell stuff.

I started having problems with SLI too. No problems here with a single board either. With a GTX-980 you really don't need SLI anyway.

I've been playing mostly everyday and have not had any SLI issue's or any other issue's for that matter.  I never used driver 359.06 (skipped that one) if that has any bearing on it.  I played last night for about 3 hours with the latest WHQL driver and everything was smooth and without a hiccup.

I should also mention that my game is fully up to date, so I must be running this latest patch being discussed...

I noticed on my GPUs that one of them is Samsung memory, and the other is that Elpida. Could that be an issue? I don't really see how though, because no other game is having any problems at all.

I'm going to try your approach and see what happens.

For those having SLI issue's, are you running any GPU overclocks?  If so, maybe try with stock clocks?

I can't see where having different memory on the GPU's should make any difference unless you're running a high mem OC and it's not stable on this paticular game...

Was not running any overclocks at the time this error started happening, and then tried it with the overclocks. Same results.

Gaming with stock clocks? Are you kidding??? Nah, the only games I need to run stock clocks with right now are Borderlands 2 and the Pre Sequel. Both games will TDR if I don't but this problem just started recently. I am told it can be resolved by setting the 'Affinity' to 1 core using Task Manager but IDK for sure since I haven't tried it yet.

A question for all you Fallout 4 players:

It was said that there was at least 400+ hours of gaming with this game. Knowing this, how many of you are or have rushed through it staying pretty much on the main game line?

For myself I am taking my time and looking for all those secret places to die in. LOL

I found a few of those spots. There is a lot of material in this game. If anyone rushes through this game and just does the main story, that's a lot of material and money blown.

IDK, I found my son if that's what you mean by main story line. I try to explore and do all of the side missions available without commiting to anyone's cause or take their side. I find myself being closer and closer to being pushed into a corner though. I ran into a Courser by accident and completed one of the quests for 'Father' but not on purpose. Once you run into this Couser and are enagaged by him you can't abandon the quest.

I just didn't return to 'Father' yet to collect my XP. I know that I will get another mission for The Institute that I can sit on for a while. I already have a half dozen missions for Preston and the Minutemen waiting to be turned in yet. For every mission I turn in I get another one. So far I am still in good grace with The Institute, Minutemen, Railroad and BOS. I do side missions for all of them. After all, I am The Lone Wanderer and a Mercenary, right? Pretty soon I will have to cross a line and alienate one of these organizations.

Sounds like I have to start another character and try the Institute. I didn't like the institute though, because of the idea of one entity controlling the world. that's what it sounded like to me.

What it's going to boil down to is either the BOS or Institute are probably going to become the 'Ruling Faction'. I don't want to post any spoilers so all I'm going to say is I had to go back to a previous save once so far. I am trying to milk this game for all of its worth before committing to anyone or anything.

Yeah, enemy NPC + Fatman = World of hurt. The problem with that is you don't know he has a Fatman until you hear the incoming round whistling through the air.

You know what they should have done? CO-OP! OMG.... would have been perfect. Instead of using a companion you can invite your friend to your game and go CO-OP. How mind blowing would that be?

And, whatever loot you both find, he gets to keep, same as you.

Co-op might be a nice change of pace since my companions like to get stuck in corners trying to walk through the walls. OMG, some of my companions are really stupid at times!

hahaha. spare of the moment... your companion blocks you on the stares... that irritates me big time. (Kind of makes me want to get ther "loner" perk.)

Some where in the outskirts of Diamond City... I was in this massive gun fight with like 10 NPCs, this cow just comes strolling up and plops right in front of me, blocking my shots. It was the strangest thing... This game has some weird issues, I tell you...

Strong was the worst. I had to butt right into him and push him backwards when he would block the door. I knocked poor Dogmeat off of a scaffolding to around a 30 foot drop and had to give him a Stimpack so he wouldn't croak on me!

yeah, see.. you have the situation I have. It's Bethesda latest patch. They just killed SLI completely. Please refer to my previous post on this as well. With 1 card, it works great.

Hopefully the next couple levels I gain and add to that "selling perk" (I forget what it's called) will help that out when I purchase and sell stuff.

Ammo? Now I have ammo. Lots of it. I had over a thousand rounds of .50 CAL before I got a weapon to use it in. Now it's over 2000 with a well used 50 CAL. LOL The 38 has even more and that is my primary weapon along with a beefed up shotgun and that is my go to when in close quarters. It has a damage rating of 75 and it lives up to it while the bad guys die from it. LOL

If you haven't selected the perks (find more ammo) (find more caps) under the Luck section you should do so. They add more of each to their categories. I even have some energy ammo that I don't have the weapon(s) for. While the fusion cells I use a lot of and have a lot of it.

While I do find a lot of ammo, I do have to buy it for the shotgun. While it is hard on ammo, it does get the desired results.

With a GTX-980 you really don't need SLI anyway.

This!!!!

I had a 770 Classy at the beginning of Fallout 4 but it couldn't do the max settings. So I reduced the values to be able to play it while I waited for the 980 TI SC to arrive. Fallout 4 doesn't kick me around anymore and it's nice to play maxed. V-sync applied I am steady at 60 FPS and the temps are very good also. Fan profile engaged.

This is what I don't understand and can only chalk it up to being bored when gamers rush through a huge game like this. When I spend money like I did for Fallout 4 I'll take my time and enjoy it... all of it. Take that same 60.00 that was paid for the game and spend it on other things of entertainment value and see how long that lasts. A lot of bang for the Cap here.

And you mix it up here which is different than just doing the main story line. With over 400 hours worth of (that includes the main line) content and finishing it in just a couple of days doesn't make sense.

You mentioned son. I forgot that I had one too. LOL For me, I am having way too much fun just exploring and doing side quests.

Like you, I'm also playing neutral and am trying to go as far as I can before I have to join any faction.

While running across the enemy in general I have noticed that some have names and when I killed them I did not notice any information that said I failed a certain quest......yet.

I am running SLI perfectly, no crashes, no stuttering at 4k. I'm using the latest Nvidia drivers. I had SLI running on Windows 8.1 x64 and have upgraded to Windows 10 Pro x64 recently and I'm still running the game no problem with SLI.

ROTFLMAO!!!!
Been there, done that way too many times. LOL

I'm finding it hard to remember to save often because this game (for me) is very stable. So I try to save in certain scenarios so I don't have to go back very far. I'm also finding more Raiders and Mercs that have high grade armor and are a bit more difficult to kill because of it. It really becomes difficult when it becomes a gang bang situation and you're the piece of meat.

A little tip if you haven't noticed is when you run across these types of enemies and you are in close quarters, take your favorite close quarter weapon and aim for the head. That gets better results than going through their armor.

All I'm going to say is if you see an enemy NPC carrying a fatman...Run, and you had better have saved 2 minutes ago.

Yeah, enemy NPC + Fatman = World of hurt. The problem with that is you don't know he has a Fatman until you hear the incoming round whistling through the air.

Or that whistling noise you hear could be that you just got the crap scared out of you. LOL

I finally successfully romanced Cait/Fiona yesterday. I hate calling her Cait because of Bruce Jenner so I call her Fiona. I wish I knew how to change her name in the game. She reminds me of Fiona Glenanne from 'Burn Notice'. Every time I find a bed to get some sleep, she is laying right next to me when I wake up. I think she likes me! After a three hour nap she complained that she must have a cramp or pulled a muscle last night and sort of limps for a while. LOL  Now I can't get her out of the bedroom! I command here to "Come here" but she won't go past the doorway. Instead of following me out the door she starts walking inside the building and gets stuck in the corner. I guess I won't be doing the side quests with Piper now for fear of losing Cait/Fiona.
Speaking of Cait, it was announced that Caitlyn Jenner is expecting another grandchild. I can't wait to see how his/her parents explain Grandpa to them. Never a dull moment!  Poor kid.
Who is the trader named Pat? There was a skirmish with some Raiders at one of those Red Rocket gas stations and after I killed the Raiders I shot at Pat and when he returned fire I killed him. I hope he isn't important. I probably could have left him alone for a few days like I did with Diamond City security and he wouldn't have been mad anymore but stuff happens!
