In the process of step up on a FTW to FTW+ so in the meantime i got another FTW+ for sli. While the stepup is still pending I have both so i figured i would try sli. No go. Tried everything and the option is greyed out in nvidia ctrl pnl. In a last ditch effort i called evga.   I got the surprise! Tech had to speak to manager & they confirmed FTW & FTW+ WILL NOT SLI. Posted this as a WARNING. Who would have thought?????!!!

That's weird...they're both technically 970s so I wonder what it is about them that isn't allowing SLI.

The only things i can think of is either the power limit on the ftw and or the pcb as the ftw+ is LARGE! nice copper heatpipes also.. oh and the GPU is closer to the end of the card...some photos of both of them in my bench...

The new 970 SSC and FTW+ use a different type of SLI that allows it to be compatible with things like lights on SLI bridges, etc. Unfortunately this means that it is not compatible with the previous versions however. If you run into this scenario please contact us and we will find a solution.

Update

NEW FTW+ IS SILENT. No more throttling. Feels sold as my old 560ti w/bp and it runs much cooler then my ftw. As you can see in photos above it's a test bench so i can hear everything! 600 fps loading a game and not a click or whine...Silent gaming right next to my freaking ears! I am loving this. Just ordered the bridge from frozencpu. Yeay! lighted bridge! if you cant tell i am a very happy idiot right now

Is it safe to assume that the new 3975 SSC will SLI with the 3978 FTW+ without problems?

I noticed that also but the old pcb is 9 1/2" & new one is about 10 1/4" almost reachs my sata ports on an eatx mb.... the second one coming may come close to hitting them.43c idle temp w/o fans running. ASIC= 72.0%  stock boost was 1410 solid. not much oc yet. just bumped it up 40 mhz on clock and mem with slight voltage increase and did not change the power target to see if the card was stable... held fine at 1450. For some reason the specs are wrong...see photos..this card is a beast.

I can confirm that the GTX 970 FTW is 9.5" in length and this is updated on the product information. I apologize for any confusion.

The new 970 SSC and FTW+ use a different type of SLI that allows it to be compatible with things like lights on SLI bridges, etc. Unfortunately this means that it is not compatible with the previous versions however. If you run into this scenario please contact us and we will find a solution.

So what IS the solution??? I'm having this issue (I have a 970 FTW and a 970 FTW+ in my machine). I guess I made a mistake by assuming that two 970s from the same manufacturer with identical clock speeds would be capable of SLI together. Is my only option to step up my FTW to an FTW+ and spend another $100 (I got the FTW on a good sale)?

OK let me see if I understand this correctly. Are you saying that your FTW and FTW+ do not SLI together? If so contact EVGA tech support.

That Is what this entire thread is about, lol. From beginning to end, the ftw and ftw+ do not SLI. Started in post 1 and he is having the same issue.

Step up may be the next step. The ftw+ is a better revision with multiple changes over the original ftw.

Yeah, unfortunately every single step up option says it's on backorder at the moment...

I'm hoping Microcenter will let me exchange the FTW for a SSC (04G-P4-3975-KR). I'll have to pay them an extra $17 plus tax, but I'll get a compatible card to pair with the FTW+. I just wish they carried the FTW+ there.

The ftw+ is in stock through EVGA. Maybe return the ftw if you aren't outside of to your window and order the ftw+?

so how i sli my sc and ssc as far i can tell i cant. Giving me no sli bridge detected.
Found DifferentSLIAuto1.2 but i dont trust this on the long run with newer driver releases and what not. Games that dont run on test mode windows because of anti cheat modes..

What are my options then?

Chris, thanks for the response. What I was told is that there is no fix for the situation. It is a hardware incompatibility and the "solution" is to exchange one of my cards for a card that will sli with the other; in this case I exchanged my FTW for an SSC. That worked, as soon as I swapped them out I was able to enable SLI in the NVIDIA control panel.
