So I've just reached my 1,000,000 points for the folding season. Now I fold because I want to help, but I also fold for Evga for the rewards they give for doing so. It's nice when you get rewarded for something you don't even have to do.

So now I have a few questions:

When does this current folding season end and the new one begin?

Is there going to be a folding season starting in 2010?

Are there going to be Evga bucks in the new season as well?

Reason I ask is because when I was looking at what I can get with my current Evga bucks, the GPU's that I would want are way out of my price range, even with the $100 credit. So I started looking @ motherboards and decided that I might give intel (i5) a try (die hard AMD guy here), and then again looking at the boards, the minimum I would want is the P55 SLI. But then I thought to myself that if I can amass another 100 evga bucks that I would get the FTW edition instead.

Thanks again guys and fold on!

We are in preliminary talks about the next year's f@h EVGA bucks promo... there's a lot to consider because of the unknowns of next year's performance.  We have some exciting ideas and proposals, but unfortunately that's all I can tell you at this time.

Collect them, allong with your BR's, they never expire, and you never know, One day you might be able to use them, I Expect EVGA to grow, based on the products they put out, Just because you cant use them now, does not mean you won't be able to use them in two years.

Yes that's absolutely true.  We are currently working on an EU shopping cart - same will eventually be true of the APAC region.

I think most of us would understand the points being much higher.  Honestly I thought the 1,000,000 for this year was low.  I think 4 or 5 million in one year is reasonable for the next year with Fermi around the corner.  The full $100 for should be for those who are pushing hard, and let the more casual folders collect the $40.

I like the idea of the formula, but I think the amounts need to be less, $100 being the max amount.  We are already considered by too many people to be a "Corporate" team, and upping the amounts to those levels would only further that idea to the folding community.  Right now the folding bucks are a bonus, though a bit to easy to get, and they will only be made easier to get in the next year, hence we need higher targets.

Upping the payout levels would make it just that, folding for money, and I could easily see EVGA being removed from the rankings like "default" and Google are.  I started folding when it only took me 4,000 total points to be #3 on this team, and it would be a shame for us to drop off the ranking list before we took #1 after all this time.

In my opinion, while most people fold to help the cause they also do it for the points. And with electric bills being so high i think we would lost alot of people if it took 5 million points to achieve $100 evga bucks. As it stands right now it is no easy task to reach those 1 million points unless you have some high end systems and or 24 hour dedicated folding machines.

I should hit 1M today, only two months behind what I thought it would be but still in time . Having no AC in my house meant not folding over the summer. And I can't sleep with all the blue LEDs so I can only fold during the day.

You guys have to remember Fermi is expected to come in the area of 20k+ ppd on a single card if we are lucky.  So if the numbers were kept at 1 million as the max.  It would only take someone 50 days if that was all they were running.

EVGA might have a better idea of its PPD, but I think it should be set up that if you ran a GTX380 (assuming brandname) 24/7 for half a year, that would hit the max prize.

Edit: And personally I found 1 million was easy to hit, and I was only using GPU folding.  And my 280 is down currently, so right now I just have my 275 and my parents 9800GTX, but I would break 1million in only 2 months or so (original million with just my 280 and then 275/280 at the end took only about 100 days).  IMO, the max prize needs to be something people need to strive to get to, not something which can be reached that quickly.

Ok, how about you fold for at least 3/4 of the year. The it matters not if you have 12 cards and 6 i7 or a 9500GT and an E6750. We may have some big folders but the 200+ people folding 3-6k/day are where the team gets its major points from.

Not meaning to disrespect our folders who are in that range, but overall our major points do come from our top producers.  Our top 100ppd producers bring in 3,648,793ppd (as of last EOC update), or about 60% of our points.

But we still definitely need the 3k-5k folders!!!!  They represent 2.5 million ppd which is more then most of the other top 10 teams!! We are all just doing what we can for the cause

Even the 5-6k folders hit 1 million in half a year with current CPU's/GPU's, 3k folders in 1 year.  With a new generation of cards, most people will be upgrading at some point in the next 12 months, and their PPD will jump accordingly.  IMO, the targets should jump accordingly with this.  Currently, about 450 people, or half the active team hits 1 million in a year at their current production (not even counting those who folded to 1mill and left).  My guess is in a year of upgrades and higher targets, it would still be about the same number of people who finished for the top prize.

Oh wow, it has been a while since I looked at the stats I guess. Last time I checked the top 100 producers was only ~2mil out of 5mil. The EVGA promotion is working, I would say at least 1/3 of the people who started because of the bucks have kept at it.

I would be forced to quit if that were the case. I could not afford the electric bill and since summer is coming up I wont be able to fold at night since my room would be to hot to sleep in. I feel the current goals are fair.

I also do not plan on upgrading to the Fermi's yet, I cannot afford it as well as without and I7 my Tri-SLI isnt even being fully utilized. So a new mobo and cpu and ram will be my next upgrade and ill just use my 260's in that rig for graphics.

At your current rate, the ~13,000pdd, you would hit 4 million in one year, even with the summer having limited folding, using your current rig, no changes.  Would cut it close, but you would finish on time.

Edit: And please note as I am suggesting these things, I am one of the people who would be hard pressed to get to 4 or 5 million in one year currently.  I would need to upgrade or get another GPU running to make it myself comfortably (though I am planning a Fermi jump, and a platform jump at some point in the next 12 months).

Edit2: as an alternative, maybe there could be another price point.  Have it run $10 at the first one, $20 at the second one, $30 at the third, and $40 at the fourth.  So people who make it to the third goal would end up with $60, still not shabby.

I live in Europe and have to watch my electric bill as it is much higher here than in the USA. That is why my wife goes nuts if I tell her I need to leave the PC running during the day, which I have been a few days this week to try and see if I can make over 1 million points before 15 March. She won't let me do that every single day though.

Looks like a sweet system you've got there, though.  How's that thing game?

The way I see it is that we all fold for different reasons, some fold for points status, some for the medical cause, some for Evga bucks and other reasons.

No matter what the reason is to fold it definately is for a good cause.

For myself I fold as a donation to humanity, the Evga bucks is just a bonus...no more no less, I would still fold what I can even if there were no Evga bucks.

Evga does have a good promotion here, might need to be tweaked just a little (not a complete overhaul) so that all get a part of the bonus.

Remember to hit 1 mil your electric bill is appx. $30-40 higher...there are those that spend $1000.00 or more on electric per year to fold, so maybe keep the $100 @ 1 mil but add another target point out at 5 or 10 mil...and the 5 or 10 mil target could be any kind of a bonus, "B-stock" for example, T-shirts etc. or more Evga bucks.

In the end it will be up to the descretion of Evga, I am proud to be part of the Evga Folding Team

BTW, we should be in 4th place in just a few days.

Be careful what you wish for, you might just get it all...and then some you don't want.

I think that It is very nice of evga to even give evga bucks, I dont fold for the bucks, because it would not be logical to do if for them.
I pay around 40 bucks extra a month just from folding 24/7, But whatever they do I think it will be be good again
I'm quite a new member here, I have  only been folding since 11/25/09, and im going for the 1 million before feb 16.
I can tell you its been quite a pain in the butt, but everyone here has been so helpful, and at least i'm putting the power of my i7 to good use.
I think Folding is a great cause and will continue to fold for team evga

I'm about to hit 1 million points tonight, been folding since September.  It's been a hot and expensive 5 months, this old core2extreme 65nm proc sits at 68-70c while folding, same with the gtx275.  electric bills up by 50% or so.
I agree with Foldmeister, keep the current promotion and maybe just add a bonus for the guys that have crazy amounts of folding gear that can easily hit 4-5million.
Once I get around to upgrading to an i7 processor I'll do my best to fold more.  On the plus side I don't need to turn on the heat in my apartment, this CPU heats the place! lol

    +1!

The EVGA Folding T-Shirt is a great recruiting tool.  When someone asks about it, you have your opening to tell what you do and why!

That was a good promotion.  Unfortunately, I was a winner, but I didn't know I had to send an email to the webmaster.  It was a couple months after the fact, that I found out I had won so I was out of luck, even after emailing so no t-shirt for me.  I didn't read everything, and I was a folding noob then.

As far as the EVGA bucks for folding go, I like it the way it is.  My reasoning for this is, not all of us have the latest and greatest.  I can only afford what I have which is not much compared to some of you guys.  For me, the million points is a great accomplishment with the equipment that I have.  Between hardware failures (Davabled can attest to this from my old freezing thread) and time constraints, it was not an easy task for me to reach one million.  I'm actually lucky I got it before my recent rash of 780i hardware failures and defective rma boards (thanks Chris B. and Steve C. for fixing me up)!  Many folks take for granted the fact that some of us are still using "dated" video cards and components!  For me, the promotion will allow me to purchase a newer video card in the upcoming year when I hopefully have more money!

    EVGA Z97 FTW.  i7-4790K, G.Skill Ripjaw DDR3-2400 x 16gb (2 x 8gb), EVGA GTX970 SC 4GB (EK Full Cover Blocks with parallel bridge) (SLI), EVGA Supernova 1200w,  Feser X-Changer 120.3 radiator x 2, Swiftech MCP355 w/xspc res top x 2, Heatkiller 3.0 (CPU).
