....  Between hardware failures (Davabled can attest to this from my old freezing thread) and time constraints, it was not an easy task for me to reach one million.  I'm actually lucky I got it before my recent rash of 780i hardware failures and defective rma boards (thanks Chris B. and Steve C. for fixing me up)! ....

Oh, I hope you didn't start getting more freezing on your 780i!

Fully agree with what you said about one million points still being difficult for many.

LOL.  No freezing!  Got that problem solved by replacing the cpu.  Just replacment, after replacement on the 780i boards.  One made it 9 months, then got a bad replacement.  The guys gave me a 780i FTW now that is up and running fine.  Hopefully the FTW is made a little better.  My point is, the almost 2 weeks I was down is a BIG hit to my ppd since it's basically my only folding rig.  I could never make the points some of these guys are making, let alone 2 million, and my machine runs folding on 2 gpu's and one cpu 24/7 except when im playing TF2.  Too bad this formula can't take into account the hardware being used since to some of us, 10 to 12k ppd is alot!

EVGA Z97 FTW.  i7-4790K, G.Skill Ripjaw DDR3-2400 x 16gb (2 x 8gb), EVGA GTX970 SC 4GB (EK Full Cover Blocks with parallel bridge) (SLI), EVGA Supernova 1200w,  Feser X-Changer 120.3 radiator x 2, Swiftech MCP355 w/xspc res top x 2, Heatkiller 3.0 (CPU).

Certainly cannot argue with you there.

I have two machines, one a dedicated 24/7 folder + my gaming rig.  My dedicated folder folds on a Quad Core 9400 (SMP) w/ 2 GTS250 Superclockeds.  My gaming rig folds on three GTS260s at roughly 18 hours/day (average).  It runs me about $60/month in additional electricity to run these two rigs, and my average PPD is around 27k - 28k.

That's a lot of hardware, and a lot of expense.  It's all for a good cause, but I don't think that folders with less or older hardware should be discounted or "less" eligible for future promotions, simply because they have less disposable income to contribute to hardware.

Agreed. I think the system is fine the way it is. I think it was an over-generalization to say that most people are going to upgrade to fermi in 12 months. In reality most people still run hardware that is 3 years old. The small percentage that are enthusiasts very well might upgrade to fermi but even then, you know it's going to be expensive.

I just hit the 1 mil mark recently and I had been folding since 10.1.09. was it easy to hit that mark? I suppose but even then it still costs a lot to operate the rigs. In the process one of my PSU's died so I have to replace that too (Although both rigs are down at the moment).

And like I said in my original post, I do it because it betters humanity but I also do it for the bucks which will just get used for a better folding rig. Although I think another achievement should be added. At 4 mil perhaps?

 My Rig: Lapped x3 720,Lapped Bit Typhoon,  MSI 790FX-GD70, unlocked Sapphire 6950, PC Power & Cooling 610w, Coolermaster CM590,   2x WD RE16's RAID 0

Well, if they wanted to keep a similar scheme, they could add another milestone /  promotion at 5 million in 1 year or something. (Again, though, anyone getting to that level likely already has quite a bit of hardware and is dedicated to the cause beyond the scope of an additional promotion.)

Wonder what Lefty's take is.
