Installed FAH for the first time and my GPU is not listed? GTX 1080 FE. I downloaded the non beta version of FAH, the beta version site that is linked is confusing as all get out!

Hello Andzx, welcome to the team and our forums. I was hoping one of our resident guru's would give some advice. I will try, but I'm not the best source. Can you tell me what version you have running? I have 7.4.4 currently. Did the set up add a cpu slot, but no GPU slot? I personally would not recommend folding on the CPU, GPU/GPU's is the way to go. The power to run the CPU is simply not worth the small points given. Some take a long time to complete as well. You also need a couple of CPU cores free for the GPU to run it's best.

I think by default FAH starts the web interface. It is only good for the basic stuff. You should have a FAH icon in the lower right hand tool bar. If you right click it should pop up with Web control, Advanced and, Protein viewer. You want to go to Advanced. Once there, click configure, then slots. Assuming where you are at, it will show your CPU slot. Click add, then in that window you should be able to choose GPU core indices. Click the add button, this should give you the GPU slot you are after. In this same area is where you could delete the CPU slot, if desired. I would say leave the index choices at stock current settings for the time being. [-1]  I hope that gets you going. If you haven't already set up an identity, it can be done in the same configure area, under you guessed it identity. :) Make sure your folding name is the same as your forum name for the EVGA bucks. Team number = 111065 , you also will need a passkey for the bonus points on some work units [WU]. Just click on the link there for a passkey, it will take you where you need to go. Enter your passkey in both spots, click save. It takes 10 completed WU's to "prime" the passkey, then you will receive the bonus points.

I do hope that helps and get's you up and running. Your 1080 should be a butt kicker, I'm jealous!!!! LOL I currently have 980's [non ti] and they do quite well. Please let us know if that works or you need further help. We have a great team and many helpful members. We also have a crunching team as well, if you would like to do that.

I appreciate the response! I setup everything correctly to fold with the EVGA team and it all seems fairly forward until I got to the folding itself. There was no GPU listed just a CPU and it only estimated 50k PPD. I tried to configure a GPU and added it but it would never start (stuck downloading). I will try your advice and remove my cpu tonight and see if that works!

I was hoping there was something in the post I gave that was missing. I don't think removing the CPU will get the GPU going unfortunately. Can you post what version of FAH you are running, also what OS you are using? Thanks. :)

A reason why the FAHClient does not recognize your GPU could be an empty or old GPUs.txt file (a GPUs "white list").

There have been a few problems with an empty GPUs.txt file some time ago, you can find more info on the Folding Forum:
GPUs not recognized and Empty GPUs.txt file

Also a few useful links:
- Information About GPUs.txt File
- You can download the most recent GPUs.txt file here

yes, delete your gpus.txt file and restart F@H for it to re-download the latest list of approved GPU's. if that didnt help go to advanced control client and click configure. from there go to slots and click the add button on the bottom right. select the GPU button on the far left (that little circle) and leave everything set to -1. this should automatically detect and add any precent gpu's that are approved on the gpu list. click OK and then Save, if your GPU is not listed now or an error popped up you'll need to get more technical.

So I gave it a try agian, i'm running 7.4.4 on windows 10 home. I had to install it on a second drive because the tray icon wont show up if it was installed on drive C:. It detects my CPU still no problem and folds fine but still wont find my GPU. I went to the data folder and added GPUs.txt that was linked and still nothing, I will note that there was no GPU file to start with. They only way I can get it to show a gpu is to add one with 0, and it will not start folding.

When you are in the advanced options window, there is a slider from light to full. Is the slider on full? I'm glad Dutchforce mentioned the GPU.txt, I had forgotten about that. Also, when you right click on the folding icon in tray, what does it show? It should have a checkmark on full. It's not "on idle" , paused or something it is?

I read this the first time you posted this, but didn't think much of it. It seems quite odd that your main drive won't cooperate. Now I am wondering if there is some kind of admin/ permission problem. Does anyone think there could be a link with this? There is a possibility that the server is down, but since you have been having issues probably not.

I honestly am stumped [doesn't take much] and frustrated that I can't help. And I know how frustrating it can be to have trouble. You're trying to join in the fold and do a good thing. Sorry I'm not more help. I will keep looking around, I hope maybe someone can help with getting you up and running. It honestly isn't usually this hard in most cases.

Here is a server list and I cannot find the server in your post...not smart enough to know more about that......possibly is just down or has been taken out.
http://fah-web.stanford.edu/pybeta/serverstat.html  I do see 171.67.108.46 [80 is the port used]

Re: FAH Help. 2016/07/06 05:21:33 (permalink)
Server 171.67.108.45:80 is the GPU Assignment Server (AS) and the CPU and GPU AS are not listed on the server status page, only the Work and Collecting Servers are listed.

It looks like something is blocking access to this server (Firewall or AntiVirus software) or an permission issue?
Maybe this thread on the Folding Forum helps: Having problems connecting to 171.67.108.45(204)

I still cannot contact the GPU assignment server via FAH application or a web browser. I have tired port forwarding 8080 and disabling windows firewall, router firewall and windows defender all at once but still cannot connect to it!

Sorry to hear that, I was really hoping we could get you going....:(  I currently don't have any further suggestions at the moment. If I get a brain blast I will pass it on. Did you try DutchForces link? It worked for the person in the thread. He stated he rebooted windows with router off. It was a windows update that broke his fold. There are two links in the post, can you connect to those? I can the first one, but not second. It does "sound" like a network or permission's issue. I don't give up, just not as much help as I wish I was. This Team and forums have always helped me. I was hoping for a few more replies ,not that the people that have are not trying.
