A bought a 04G-P4-3979-KB GTX970 video card from Best Buy over the weekend.  It isn't even on the list of GTX970 video cards on EVGA's website.  Exactly what have I bought?  Is it an older card that Best Buy is clearing out for EVGA, because the newer cards are better?  Is it not on the EVGA GTX970 models page because it is proprietary to Best Buy?  Or is it something new?  How does it compare to EVGA's other GTX970 cards as to cooling, power phases, etc?  Anything anyone could tell me would be appreciated.

A lot of times, these would be base models (dependant on clocks and such) made for Nvidia by EVGA.

This isn't just a card being cleared out just because, but more of a purpose card that was meant for NVidia and Best Buy more than EVGA strictly.

I could be wrong about that, so hopefully someone more versed in best buy sales can chime in, but your card is legit and will be fine.

From what I see it's an older version:

Yes they are different according to specs. (bios switch, MOFSET cooling and so on)

this card was probably made just for best buy i work for walmart i get laptops that on the back of the model number have wm that means the laptop was made for walmart. i have seen it before gpu shopping at best buy for gtx 660ti they had a model made just for them. there is nothing wrong with it . its just a best buy model i think some company's do that to protect they're assets what could stop someone if they come in to return an item with out a receipt and say they bought it there and they did not. it happens in walmart all the time.

This is interesting. I happen to know the Televisions (at least those from Sony and Panasonic) sold in Costco are manufactured in Mexico while the ones you buy directly through Sony/Panna are assembled in Japan. As per one of the Panasonic engineers, the QC on the Costco televisions isn't as great even though the same parts are used.

Wonder if it's the same thing with these cards?
