Hello evga people! I hope some one here can help me with my problem. I recently bought a new evga z97 ftw motherboard and have updated the bios to 1.07. The problem that I'am having is my computer keep randomly freezing. The mouse starts lagging really bad followed by a sound that hangs my computer, so bad that I have to force a shutdown by holding down the power button. All the bios and software are at default setting. I don't overclock and I have double check all of the connections. Down at the bottom are the hardware that I have on my computer.

I have the same processor as you and mouse Logitech g700s.
Maybe mouse is the problem (you tried a different ?) or logitech drivers.

I have install all the latest driver for all the hardware. The computer will boot-up to window, but freezes in random time. It can take half a day to 2 hours. I tried to recreate what I was doing when it happen, but to no avail. The problem still occur even from a fresh installed operating system with just the drivers. My evga 780 gtx video card runs at 68 Degree on full load, so I know that's not the problem. The only thing I change was the motherboard. At first I couldn't even get into bios because I found out that having a Sound Blaster Recon3D PCIe installed on any of the pcie slot will just cause a black screen. By the way which memory slots do you guys put the memory in? the red slots or the black slots? I only have 2 memory stick for duel channel.

hmmm...I have Sound blaster ZxR. Maybe is a problem with our sound cards? I have try to remove my ZxR and replace it with this integrated on the motherboard. (You can try)
About memory slot - I have installed in the 2 and 4 slots, so you should be in the red.

Have you tried running memtest to start ruling out components?  Try running the intel processor diagnostic tool among other things to start narrowing down the suspects.

    MSI MEG Z790 ACE, Intel i9 13900k, G.Skill Trident Z5 RGB 32gb 6600, ARCTIC Liquid Freezer III 420 ARGB in push/pull, Gigabyte RTX 4090 Gaming OC, EVGA Nu Audio, Samsung 990 & 980 Pro's, WD SN850X & Black hdd, EVGA Supernova 1300 G2, Windows 11 Professional, Thermaltake Level 20 XT w/Antec Prizm X 120mm argb fans

When running memtest make sure you test each stick individually.

+1....that's really important, OP. Also, do you have a setting under the usb config in the mobo bios to disable/enable legacy usb? If so, tick it to the opposite that its set to now, save and then reboot and see if that changes anything.

Well ever since I downgraded the bios to 1.04 I haven't had any issue. I have gone a whole day without any freezing, so I decided put back the sound blaster recon3d pcie card. At first I couldn't get a sound, so I went into bios and disabled m.2 under advance/onboard this fix the no sound problem. Today I have set the memory to 2133mhz using the xmp, so far so good. I will update this thread if problem comes back. thank you for all the suggestion and the the link for the bios!

Looks like 1.05 is the earliest available on the forums for download. You can get it here.

i have a very similar problem.

    After swapping rma'ing a z87, I picked up a z97.  Having similar freezes with the mouse/keyboard.
I have tested each stick of ram (4 in total) and no failures (albeit I only ran 2-3 passes each), swapped bios, updated bios to 1.07.  still random freezes.

Hopefully downgrading to 1.04 will work.  :)

What power supply are you using?  Seeing that you are having the same problem with a second board makes me think that something else is the issue.

    MSI MEG Z790 ACE, Intel i9 13900k, G.Skill Trident Z5 RGB 32gb 6600, ARCTIC Liquid Freezer III 420 ARGB in push/pull, Gigabyte RTX 4090 Gaming OC, EVGA Nu Audio, Samsung 990 & 980 Pro's, WD SN850X & Black hdd, EVGA Supernova 1300 G2, Windows 11 Professional, Thermaltake Level 20 XT w/Antec Prizm X 120mm argb fans

Downgrading is a less desirable solution. EVGA should provide a BIOS fix instead.

I agree although I haven't had any problem with the bios 1.04. There is something wrong with 1.06 and 1.07. I hope that evga investigate these issues and come out with a more stable bios.

I'm using an OCZ PSU.  It was running a previous evga board and asus board fine.  I've tested the PSU with a psu test tool and it seems good.  I'm putting up another thread, as my problem was not fixed by flashing the bios and I don't want to dump in the OP's thread too much :)

PS test tool is worthless.  Put it on a digital multimeter and put the system under load and see what the rails are reading.

Had the same problem with 1.06 and 1.07. Currently using 1.04 with no freezes, the only issue is on a cold boot, the system powers off, and requires the second push of the power button. Weird.

Any updates?  When my last ocz ps went out it took out the adata ssd that was attached to it.  Those powerstreams were pretty lame to begin with but that wasn't the first time that a failing ps damaged.  The first time it happened to me it was an enermax liberty 620 and it got the mb, cpu and ram.  Fortunately I didn't get a small fire like others reported.  Enermax replaced the ps with a higher model but I ate the component cost.
