Has anyone tried running newer gpus on evga sr2? I know that up to 7990 and 780 gpus will work. Tried 290x and failed so had to get the 7990. Now I regret getting 7990 as it's a dead weight without proper drivers for multi gpu... Any idea if something like furyX or 980ti would work or would the same as with r9 200 series where you get BSOD at best or it doesn't even boot?

I have a EVGA GTX 980 Ti in my SR-2 and it performs flawlessly. For video games, the performance improvement over my old GTX 680 are more than just noticeable. Plus the the GTX 980 Ti supports MFAA and DSR without falling to its silicon knees.

That really gives me hope that I can keep my rig for couple more years. Thanks :)

Please note that you may run into issues if you try and SLI 980ti's due the the older architecture of the motherboard. One card will work great though.

I have 7990 right now. It's nice to play with half of the card all the time :D I've learned from my lesson. By the most powerful card on the market and don't expect devs to make sli or crossfire available

I have ran 7950 crossfire and got full performance on my board but there no 980Ti SLi .. my understanding was the amount of ram total (system and video cards) was the issue as it seems x58 has a limit not to cross over.. I have ran a newer R9-290X since July 2015 and have had no issues and the card is always running at full performance but again I only have 6Gb system and 4Gb video card which is 10 total and my CX 7950's was 12 total.

Now I'm amazed that you have managed to get r9 290x working. I had one... spent 24 hours testing and researching online before sending it back.  Evga sr2 is a brilliant card, so brilliant that each and every card is unique

Safe to say each unique but reproducible results or bust.
I'm hearing you say 980 hybrid won't work in pairs out of the box is a limit on total RAM?
Oops, that's a Titan X 12GB Hybrid not a 980, sorry.

with x2 AMD s10000 6GB ECC
with x2 XFX R7990 6GB non-ECC
I don't see the problem yet with AMD drivers,
ECC is toggle in software on the s10000.
I don't see a lot of s10000 12GB ECC available.
I'm expecting rearward compatibility SR-2 PCIE v2
from both AMD and NVIDIA for considerable while.
What new ECC solutions for SR-2 from CUDA?

If anybody is still interested, I can confirm that a 980Ti works just fine on the SR-2, at least on Linux. I have it working with VT-d enabled, with a 780Ti passed to a VM and a 980Ti running on the host. No problems. Just replaced a 780Ti that was on the host and made no other changes (I needed more DisplayPorts, 780Ti only had one, otherwise I wouldn't have bothered).

Unfortunately, not tried the 290X in this machine yet, not got around to it even though I have one running in a different box I could cannibalize temporarily.

Crucial 12x 8GB x4 DR 1.35V DDR3-1600 ECC RDIMMs (96GB)

I can confirm 980 ti SLI works fine on the SR-2. I've been running 2 EVGA 980 ti Classifieds for six months.
