Not sure if this has been answered but, I have an EVGA 780i SLI motherboard and I was seeking assistance for someone who has better knowledge of the motherboard than myself. I was wondering if the Evga 780 SLI motherboard is compatible with M.2 SSD's. I am not sure if it is compatible, because id like to know before buying one. (Preferably im looking for the Samsung 950 Evo M.2 SSD, but if any other M.2 SSD is compatible with my motherboard it would be nice to know.)

You'd need a PCIE expansion card to house the M.2 SSD since the board does not have any M.2 slots, and you wouldn't be able to use it as a boot drive (99% sure on that one).

To be frank, unless you are hosting a serious network/file/database server, it wouldn't be much better than a standard SATA SSD.

If you want something faster try the Intel 750 400Gb PCIe SSD. But you have to have the UEFI Bios to use it. I am Not sure what bios your board has.

NVME boot support has to be baked in to the BIOS. Since NVME only came out recently, there's no way the 780i could boot from it as it came out many years prior, and BIOS updates have long since halted.
