***Please read post number two for more details on this thread*** We are looking for input for one name that encompasses all of the Distributed Computing projects other than Folding@home. Changing that name is not on the table and not an option. In other words... Most of the BOINC's, Collatz, Cosmology, Einstein, Enigma, Milkyway, Orbit, PrimeGir, SETI and YoYo in addition to WCG etc etc etc... With the understanding that things always change but the name needs to stay the same... This way as we expand in the future and today we can have the ability to show our efforts under one Team... EVGA. Some of these programs even offer F@H to be included. There is more in it to get it done, but we are happy to help make that happen So we are still one team regardless with multiple avenues to give or volunteer... There are programs out there that allow us to track all of the other types of volunteering we do with our Computers. However each one of those programs (SETI, WCG, ETC) need to have the same name in order for the gathering of the Units completed and points. This allows us to expand to many projects for those looking to give in addition to or more towards what best fits their equipment or desires. Yet still be giving to the EVGA family/team as they so desire to. Here are a few of those suggested so far. Please add to them. Once we have compiled a list over a few days (Or longer) we will start a poll. A little history of why and where this is coming from... This thread here ( Link) one of our members RHMash asked... Is there enough interest in spreading EVGA to other projects than WCG? So far from what I've read, the team name has to be the same across multiple projects. If there's interest, I'm willing to crunch under Collatz, Cosmology, Einstein, Enigma, Milkyway, Orbit, PrimeGir, SETI and YoYo in addition to WCG.... Maybe if we get a list together of the projects everyone is willing to crunch for as an EVGA team, we can come up with a team name or we can stick with using WCG@EVGA for all of them? After a lot of research, debate and down right good old fashion passion. We discovered (Not only from this thread but others on other forums and PM's internally) that there are a lot of folks that have been contributing or would like to contribute to other projects and have all the work show up under a team name here @ EVGA... But there was no EVGA team to attach their passion and or results to... Full credit and appreciation to Infinitekills. He did start DC@EVGA and got this ball rolling a few years back!!! Add this to the other request and ideas... And that all culminates into this thread we are working with today And Infinitekills continues to offer his help and expertise to make this all work. Thank you Infinitekills!!! So it was proposed to create one EVGA team name that would allow folks under all these other projects, to attach themselves to a team here @ EVGA... Along the way we found it is best to have all the "Team" names match so we have the largest BOINC "Data completion" program available to us under one banner. This means the team name for SETI has to match WCG in order for the program to go out and get the results of work completed and bring it back to one location. The result would be... Everyone could participate in any program that BOINC offers that is tracked, that we create a matching Team name to, and all the production would come into one place for all to see. Just an FYI for all those WCG teammates. We learned that we can change the WCG@EVGA name to anything we desire. With NO issues with points/units/results/etc. However it can take up to a week for it to filter through all of the channels for it to start tallying and recovering form the past efforts. Everything will be captured, nothing will be lost... This will have no impact on the Folding@EVGA name in anyway. It has nothing to do with that portion of our team. We are trying to align the BOINC/Projects name(s) so it is easier to understand, promote and keep track of them in one place.

I don't like "Reserved" very much I think "DC@EVGA" is still on the table, though. "TeamEVGA" ? Is is that too closely tied to the corporate marketing efforts?

I'm going to keep it simple and to the point and go with BOINC@EVGA to encompass all the projects.

Sorry, Just not familiar enough with all that . If it means that this Team keeps it's name and a separate identity in the concept of consolidation, I'm cool with it. If not, the team certainly has a right to collectively decide otherwise, and I'm OK with that as well. Just don't know at this point what my thoughts are if that would not be the case. I'll just hang and evaluate later after it becomes clearer. Right now I just don't have the time to sort through it all. Nor do I feel I understand it enough to offer any commitment either way.

I like the current name of DC@EVGA but BOINC@EVGA and Crunchers@EVGA sounds good too. I think if we setup a new name, then perhaps it would be a good idea to see if we can rename a few of the existing teams. There is already 48.5 million points under the current team plus 345K under WCG@EVGA and that would give us a good running start under a new team name.

OK folks... Please let me know if I missed anything.. I did an explanation in post #2... Once we nail this down I plan to ask if we can post a thread in the F@H category asking for input. I like the idea of a wide spread audience as the perfect name may come from anywhere =]

No preference on the "name", but will go along with doing what you described if it helps build a larger, stronger Team with more options. I'm good with it.

Your added explanation I think should make this very clear on what we are looking for and why. Thank you AB for taking time out of your weekend to do this.

Might as well give it a try to make sure it can be done before we go through a vote only to find out that our only real choice might be to change the WCG name to match.

That one Company has a sales team, and a shipping team, and an RMA team and so on and so on.... They are interpersonal teams (If you will) but all contribute by doing their part of the "Teams" needs for success. That is what we are doing here. It allows folks that are good at what they do flourish in different environments/projects while still contributing the the ultimate cause for Humanity...

Just so people understand, the whole concept of whetstones and dhrystones has very little to do with what the BOINC projects actually do. They are very simplistic benchmarks created in the last century, and are used as a crude way to measure your speed, but they have nothing to do with what the clients actually do during their number-crunching.

I was just reading Punchy's question for SNURK over at the WCG Forum. I hope that our WCG Team name (if it changes) won't impact all of our new Sigs that he created. I'd really not want to even consider asking him to re-do all those after he's been pumping out so many for us. Just a thought...

I Am 99% confident that anything we do to our personal information in WCG is what makes the changes... We only gave SNURK our personal account number that is used for all tracking for WCG... Not the team information. So from that I believe this will have nothing to do with SNURK in the way of his sig......

Might as well give it a try to make sure it can be done before we go through a vote only to find out that our only real choice might be to change the WCG name to match. Since InfiniteKills has setup most of the teams for the projects and is the founder of those teams, he may be able to do this for us if we ask him. I did setup one project team which was for yoyo@home about a year ago since there was not a team available at the time. I can use that as a test for renaming once we decide on a name. Alternatively, I could set it up as WCG@EVGA temporarily to see how things look via the stats site.
