I have a fresh install of windows 10 64 on a new Asus Rampage 5 edition 10. Just got my 1080 and installed windows. Keep getting this error on driver install 368.39 and .51 with bios 0601 and 0502. Ideas?

"Nvidia installer can not continue"

"The graphics driver is not compatible with this version of windows."

I downloaded the 64 bit version of the driver. I have W10 64 installed. ??

Did you download the Windows 7/8 version or Windows 10 version?

    Windows 10

You will get this error ""The graphics driver is not compatible with this version of windows."" if you try to install the 32 Bit on a 64 Bit OS or the 64 Bit OS on the 32 Bit OS or if you try to install the Windows 7/8 on Windows 10 or the Windows 10 version on Windows 7/8.

Did you right click on the install file and select Run as administrator?

Haven't tried that yet. I bought windows 10 on a usb flash drive to install. It now says the driver is in windows updates.

I selected the 64 bit version on installation.

Make sure that you are running Windows 10 with the 1511 update installed, if you just did a fresh install of Windows 10 you will need to run Windows Update to the latest version of Windows first. then the 368.XX drivers for 10 series cards to be compatible.

Yep, 1511 update fixed that, but now the OS wants activation again and won't accept my W10 USB code that I just purchased.  ??

That's strange, I did the same thing, purchased a retail copy of Windows 10 Home 64-bit on a USB flash drive, I setup a Microsoft account previously so whenever I do a fresh install it automatically activates because microsoft have taken a snapshot of your pc hardware then that copy of windows 10 binds to that hardware, as long as you don't change motherboard or too many things it should automatically activate. Also once that is all done you should be able to create a local account and it will still remember your hardware, you don't even need to put the code in when you do a fresh install of windows 10. Also, when I recentley did a fresh install of windows 10 a few days ago it automatically installs the latest WHQL GTX 1080 driver which I was quite suprised at.

    Windows 10 64-bit. Maximus 8 Hero. i5-6600k @3.5-3.9GHz. 2X4GB 2133MHz. SSD. NVIDIA GTX 1080 FE. G-SYNC 1920x1080 144Hz. Scarlett 2i2. HX 1000i.

I have an idea about the activation issue. I installed windows with one bios chip and then tried to install NVidia drivers on the second mobo bios to see if that was the problem. Then updated to 1511. I wonder if windows views the hardware differently since windows was activated on the other bios. ??

Funny you caught this but did you update the Bios before you installed the GPU?
That is this has nothing to do with the GPU.
You must have never updated your Windows 10 OS before you installed the new GTX 1080 Card Drivers.
I ask because I have a Windows 7 Rig on an X99 MB and I have to re-activate Windows 7.
This has never happened before when updating a Bios on a Motherboard.

Yes. This is a fresh install of W10 off of a USB flash drive that I purchased. Everything is new. I installed the OS on a beta bios 0601 and then switched to 0502 thinking the beta status may be the issue. It's the 1511 of course and now I will try to switch back to 0601 to see if that fixes the activation issue. Thanks for your help.
