I just had to ask for a bump in my reported PPD. I still have the last 2 rigs to get going and I'm already over 400,000 and I only reported 375,000 because I had been having reliability issues back in May. I guess the cool temps here are helping keep things going.




RJ what does your powerbill look like? i bet its just as long.

It's not that long. Only about three lines for them to calculate the total.
 
 
 
Can get up to around $500 for a month of full-out folding.
 
Looking to get that in check when the new SR socket 2011 boards come out. Should easily get the same or more PPD with a lot less power usage.

Looks like you have a clutter issue. I have an empty case for just such an occasion, feel free to send that extra stuff my way and i'll give it a wonderful new home :P

Probably sell some that will net some $ and I have been known to put a GPU or two in for folding prizes when they would likely cost about as much in shipping as they are worth.

i bet that room gets hot(or is it in your garage). i put a tower in each bedroom to heat the house for the contest. atleast thats how i justified it to my wife.

Never used Linux and hear there are problems trying to get Wine to work properly, so I stick with Win 7.

That's a nice rack of systems you've got, rjbelans. And nothing wrong with running Windows. Personally, I like both Linux and Windows, but I prefer Windows for a desktop environment. Sometimes I prefer to use Linux for writing network-based applications, though (like MPI applications or servers or the like.) I think I'm one of the few people I know who likes using both vim and Visual Studio. The downside to linux is that, while it doesn't break often, when it does break it breaks really well. - lol - Searching through and trying to fix .conf files is not fun. Windows tends to be a little more forgiving in that regard.

ita not hard at all to setup gpu 2 or 3 client, in fact it takes me less then 5min to setup a gpu3 client
and whit some modding to wine it's just as good if not better then win (no ati folding tho)
you just need to know how linux works
that and you can use the  native Linux v7 client
 
 
 
EDIT: I got 17k ppd on my 470  back with my custom spin off of wine
I wish I did not loose my home folder

I've had to cut back one of my 460's (01G-P3-1371) running at 80c at 100% fan speed.  When it's idle it runs at 41c. (It's running at 720/1440/1800.
 
Any suggestions? I have no problem with it running at 80c the fact that it's using 100% fan speed is what bothers me.  Should I try an aftermarket cooler? Should I benchmark the card and check for flaws? I'm hoping to get it back up for the contest!

It be cool if ya did write one, I never used linux either and I may consider making my second folding rig a Linux folder to get a little better PPD on it.

There is not native GPU support in Linux, so you need Wine for them.

no you dont.. Wine sucks compared to native anything right...
 
VMplayer from within windows... ubuntu 11.10
run gpu's on windows.
smp on vmplayer.
and yes your tpf will drop ALOOOT try it.
 
IM gonna make a Tutorial i think :-) 
even when im not running -bigadv on my x6 my tpf drop by minutes.... with vmplayer and smp.. linux just rapes winblows. 
And dosnt v7 have native linux gpu support?

I'm still using v6 until I stop hearing major complaints about v7 over at folding forums.
 
I'll just stick with Win until I have v7 and some extra time to sit down and learn the things I need to know for Linux.
