I am also interested in hearing EVGA's statement about this. My GTX 970 SC ACX 2.0 Whines bad. RMA'd once already and tried different PSU's. I know its not limited to only EVGA's cards but I still am very disappointed.

I have two of them. Have only had about 1 hour of gameplay on them so far... But they are super quiet.

I have yet to get a card with coil whine personally, but I have a friend that has. From what i've read, it can be caused or amplified by other components. Like your power supply or motherboard.

Had my new SSC for 2 weeks now and the only time I can really hear it is if I get very high fps (1000+) or running MS WEI. I haven't tried burning it in yet either, so that could probably eliminate it completely.

Yea, that's why I was asking you for your ASICs in that other thread to compare to mine until you broke your 3770K. If it makes any difference I have the same PSU as you and an Asus P8Z77-I Deluxe/WD. Maybe now with that new rig of yours, you could try reproducing my situation and let me know if it's just me .

Well, my hour of gaming was before my i7 was busted. I have yet to install a OS and get everything established on my new set-up. I just found out my new Corsair H105 won't fit my current case with the motherboard in place, the clearance is like 1mm off, it's stupid... so I have to wait till tomorrow and go back up to microcenter and find me a new case... Really sucks having to spend my money on this stuff when I was planning on a new monitor... Oh well.

^At least you have a Microcenter near by and don't have to think about wonderful CA taxes. Not to get too far off topic though, it would be nice if anyone else that owns a new 970 SSC could chime in on this.

We have made several improvements across the entire 970 product line to reduce inductor noise, all new shipments of 970 products have these improvements. If you have a card that has inductor noise please contact us directly so we can offer a resolution.

I've seen fewer, but still reports of coil whine on the other models even recently. Hopefully as you say, EVGA did actually address the issue properly with the new revisions. As a final act of desperation after my failed attempts to get a non-whining GTX 970 SC I ordered the new SSC. Please don't let me down EVGA.

UPDATE: GTX 970 SSC ACX 2.0 (04G-P4-3975-KR) Just came today. After stress testing it all day I conclude that EVGA did indeed reduce the coil noise. Its not 100% gone but compared to my GTX 970 SC its night and day. My SC would make a VERY loud buzzing in games and benchmark (far cry 4, battlefield 4, Shadow of Mordor etc...) and HIGH PITCHED whine in menus (500+ FPS).

With the new SSC revision, in game the noise is virtually gone. No loud buzzing or whine, but a soft electrical noise can still be heard if you are 1-2 feet away from the GPU.
When at an uncapped menu (Crysis 2 @ ~1500 FPS) There is a high pitched whine present, but still drastically lower than before. Just limit your FPS using EVGA Precision to counter this.

Side note, I'm a little disappointed it didn't come with a backplate or at the very least have a free backplate offered as EVGA did for early adapters of the first revisions of 970's. I now have a backplate that won't fit this new card lol.

I got mine 3 days ago (3975) 970 SSC. My card def. has coil whine, even at 60 FPS and below. Also my coolers are making humming sounds when they spin up or down.

Compared to my 2 reference 980s, which have no coil whine at all, well they have slight coil whine at > 1000 fps in a benchmark, the New SSC is still pretty whiney for me.

Since I live in germany and therefore can send it back within 14 days, I can maybe figure out a way with Dominik to replace it with a FTW+, which I would pay for (the additional fee).

My 780Ti Kingpin had no coil whine at all. I'm using an Evga G2 850W PSU.

Looking forward to either the 980 Kingpin or the Titan II(x). Oft course from EVGA.

I hope Dominik and I can find a soloution.

You sure went digging for this thread. I've since moved on from the new SSC 970 card, but if I can recall correctly, one bit of advice given was to run Heaven/Valley bench all night through and see if that helps (burn in). Of course, this issue could be due to the type of power supply you are running as well. If all else fails of course:

Edit: Sorry, forgot to mention that unless this sound is extremely noisy/obvious or occurs all the time, most high performance cards will produce a type of buzzing like sound when put under load which is completely normal.

The newer cards (SSC+ and FTW+) have more power phases which help against coil whine. I stepped up to the FTW+ and now have no coil whine. You could step up to the new SSC+ through eVGA.

You probably would have to pay a restocking fee with newegg.  Where with eVGA you only need to pay the difference and shipping.

Looks like EVGA will be the way to go. Its bummer I have to waste my step-up. My luck a new card will launch in 84 days.

Something new is always around the corner, however, with Nvidia recently it hasn't been cheap. Although just as a heads up (in case you didn't know), there have been huge threads on the coil whine from these 900 series cards (mostly pre- 970 SSC+/FTW+). My last 970 SSC+ still had it, though probably not as bad as those before EVGA made the improvements ManBearPig mentioned. Good luck.

Thanks - Yeah I feel that is some sort of Video Card Gambling! Hopefully the cards play in my favor!

Yeah my 560Ti is rather quiet. So I guess this whine stuff is new to me.

I've been through 3 FTW+ models and every single one has had coil whine. Not defeaning, but definitely still there during most games, and loud enough to hear over the case fans and clear enough to hear every change in pitch and warble as the camera renders different scenes. I've let each one fold for 16+ hours a day over 3 days and while the sound goes down a small amount, it hasn't magically disappeared like others have mentioned. This is also with FPS capped at 120.

At this point I'm just going to return it. I'm done playing this game, and I don't think I'll be giving any GPU manufacturer my business until this issue has been resolved completely.

EDIT: This is pretty much exactly what I'm getting: http s://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G4Ft5R5iJZo

Might not be bad through a noise reduction case, but it cuts right through mine (Corsair Air 540).

My 970 FTW+ is about 3 weeks old at this point and NO whine so far.  Knock on wood.
