I hope Evga does a nice cooler for it, not simply something stock. I'm hoping for a big silent cooler as an option. I don't quite want to water cool, I might in the future. But I have a HAF 932 with plenty of airflow so I'd be up for 2-3 slot silent coolers. Something like the phantom.

Please NO!
Please EVGA, don't change from the reference cooler for this card. Some of us actually want to use 3 way SLI and those big coolers don't allow for that. I have 3 of the vanilla 580's and they stay perfectly cool and are pretty silent. No need to change the cooler. And anything but external exhaust is unacceptable for 3 way as well. This would also save them on manufacturing costs. I don't want to pay any more for these cards than I have too.

If you need a bigger cooler for your card that dumps heat into your case, just buy a 3rd party cooler!

Also, if the release date is really going to be in April (soon I hope!) then the cards are already in production and nothing any of us can say will change anything.

I said option. Keep your stock cooler.

Not sure I understand. Option? Huh? How would one keep a stock cooler if they didn't have reference 580's already? Also, it would be almost impossible to sell your reference 580's (if you have them) without the cooler. If you really want a 3GB 580 with a 3 slot cooler that dumps heat into your case, just go and buy the phantom.

Whatever, lets just hope for a release date soon

I really hope evga does come out with the 3gb because I don't like palit. Out of my gtx 570s the vanilla evga 570 got to 953 on the core with afterburner and the palit sonic platinum only could reach 926 on the core, without failing 3d mark 11. My evga gtx 460 is still running strong where as my palit gtx 460 has already died. Both never overclocked. I have owned 4 evga motherboards, 610i, 730i, p55 ftw, p55 classified 200, I even got to use an evga 790i and E762. I love evga but they need to step up a bit. I went with the UD9 because of the sata 3.0 and usb 3.0 and the two nf200 chips. Sorry evga but the sr2 only beat asus by 1000 points, thats just not enough.

Wow sorry for the rant and going off topic but I still hope for the 3gb 580 lol

same, here. I passed up several GTX590 opertunities in order to wait for a 3GB GTX580 (eVGA or Palit/Gainward), as my res is a wee bit VRAM limited with some of the games I play (and don't mention Octane's insane VRAM requirements, lol).

eVGA FTW!

Zotac has updated their website showing 2 new 3gb variants of the GTX580. I'm not saying I'd rather get the cards from another manufacturer - hopefully it's a sign that EVGA is close to releasing their 3gb versions as well. Regarding pricing for those particular Zotac cards, a google search linked me to an online store which has the reference cooler model 3gb card listed at under 510 bucks. Wonder how close/far EVGA's pricing will be to that, or if that price is even accurate...

On another note: anybody else like me and have this thread alt-tabbed at work and flip over like ever 2 minutes and hit F5, hoping for any more details?  lol

Guilty as charged. This would be an ideal situation for my choice, as they'd be considerably more future proof than cards limited at 1.5 GB.

Option/Choice, different versions. Though I may end up buying two hydros if they have them. Not sure if I'll watercool my next system.

Reference 3gb  580
Hydro 3gb 580
Then a nicer quieter 3gb 580

Quit overreacting.

I'm certainly not overreacting. I'm just very passionate about this product. At 8100x1600 I am very VRAM limited with 1.5GB. Some games won't even play at that resolution, even with with 0xAA. For example Crysis 2 @ 2560x1600 with 0xAA (AA isn't even an option, I know, really lame) is using about 1.3GB - 1.4GB on average.

If there are multiple options with the 3GB cards from EVGA, even better. I'm just not too sure it will happen. It's just better for all if they have a version with the reference cooler. That way 3 and 4 way SLI users are happy, and anyone else could conceivable buy a 3rd party cooler or even water cool if they were so inclined.

Even with 3GB vram you're not gonna last too long at that resolution, these DX11 games are insane on vram! I will be getting 3gb version for my single monitor 1920x1080, just incase i might switch to 2560x1600, even with tham much vram, i'm pretty sure that when BF3 is out, it's gonna pass the 2gb mark for sure!, with all those huge maps and 64 people on the field!

Well, I take what I can get. I don't think they'll be releasing 6GB cards anytime soon. Also, I think 3GB will be ok at my res. I don't need tons of AA, just would like to be able to use some.

In the case that we get reference and then Hydro, what really silent third party cooler would you recommend. I don't know of any. Though silence is a giant concern for me as I do voice over work for my Youtube channel and noise reduction is not an option.

Perhaps I should seriously consider watercooling. my Haf is good with that from what I understand.

I haven't personally used any third party coolers with any of my video cards in a long time, but I have heard the Arctic Cooling Accelero Extreme Plus is pretty good. This might be what you are looking for.

I really like the vapor chamber cooler of the reference 580's and think it does a very good job. But who knows, maybe you will be right and they will release a non-reference design for this card. I guess we should just wait and see.

Good Luck!

I'm so looking forward to the release of these cards, I might just bite the bullet and buy 4 to start with!!

I've just managed to sell both of my 5970's for each of the i7 rigs I have currently so 2 580's in each rig will be the minimum I will go for!!  I have 3 30" monitors sat in front of me begging to game with all this hardware and GPU power I have sat here!!

I just hope I have enough slots for the adaptec card and sound card I hope to put in both of them!!

Will anyone be buying the water cooled version of this card or will they be adding an aftermarket block instead??
