Hmmm I,m starting to feel better about the step up program. As there are no guarantees on the 590 being in the program.I was worried I would end up with no upgrade path for the $1000 investment into 580 sli.I might have another option at this point:) Tick Tock

Not unless  they buy the PCB from Palit/Gainward as the current 3GBV 580 has custom PCB that this block fits and are made for.
Best hope would be a HC2 versionas i dont see any other than swiftech make a block for cards that are 2 month late to the party.

Forgive me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't a Step-Up be invalid? That is to say if you just bought a 580? From what I understand you can only Step-Up if there's a change in the GPU, not ram. A GTX 580 at 1.5GB and a GTX 580 at 3GB would have the same GPU right?

Yeah, Step-Up needs to be a higher GPU and it only includes standard reference models which this won't be.

Asus Rampage 3 Formula - Intel Core i7 970 4013MHz
Prolimatech Megahalems
Patriot Viper Xtreme 3x4GB 1284MHz
HIS AMD 7970 (for now - I feel like I'm cheating on my girlfriend not running an EVGA card!)
OCZ Vertex 2 120GB - WD Black 1TB
Corsair AX1200 - Thermaltake Armor+

Palit was 100USD more and Gainward about 80-100EUR for twice the Vram so in that area you should expect to not be dissapointed, lower is just a positive thing and i dont see EVGA beeing anything different than other brand unless they got a hell of a deal on ram to give away "for free" or less than 50USD.

Was 285 2GB in stepup? There you might have the answer on 580 3GB or not in stepup unless EVGA have to do it the same way as Palit/Gainward and make it nonreference to pull it off and void stepup by the terms of referencecard only.

i've been searching for a 3GB card everywhere but both Palit and Gainwards were out of stock. I know a place which is getting some in stock next week.

I'd prefer to get the EVGA brand but it depends on the time frame. Does anyone know if this will be out soon, e.g. next few weeks?

Hmm if neither the 590 or the 3gb 580 are put in step up then most likely my step up will expire unused. And then my upgrade path will be for nought in the step up program, which is why I took the gamble on a $1000 sli in the first place. If i could only see the future.I won,t do that again I will just buy non reference for better cooling. The lifetime warrenty is nice but i never keep my cards past 18 mths anyway. So if my step up expires unused so will my patronage.sry EVGA Lets hope you can come thru:)

Well as far as the step up from GTX 580 to 590, there won't be one. The new GTX 460 2Win has no step up from any of the 400 series cards to a dual gpu. It's one card per one card was my response on that matter with email correspondence from EVGA. So it's safe to say that it won't be an option on the 500 series either. :sigh:

That means they have to BUY the PCB of Palit/Gainward to pull it of as it is custom PCB from a 570 i belive they enhanced and refitted with GF110 and 3072Mb Vram and a mutch better cooler than stock 580(at least the Gainward is that).
So either EK has to make another to fit IF they find it worth while and that is not a given thing they do as 580 3GB market is mutch smaller when EVGA get their card out that is was when Gainward/Palit released their card and was sold out in 5 min.
Best bet is a EVGA H20 model with a swiftech block on or perhaps Koolance wake up and see a demand for a custom block.

Limited supply with cherrypicked GPU that wont even last long to even reach stepup and dont be supriced if all 590 made is "overclocked" and that make stepup invalid by the terms aswell. 1000 cards divided by 3-4 vendors(evga not even in top 2 of size and how many card they get most likely) is the limit they speak about so the card is already sold out before hitting the store as the one that really wants/needs them do pay what they cost as they will get them "for free" as the card would have cost 850-1000USD to be a +/-0 deal for nvidia and a long term deal and the title is worth losing a few buck for, but not to mutch.
Nothing strange about that, just common sence and how the stepup works, beside the 800USD+ fee for the card would mean at least 300USD additional per card in stepupfee and by getting another 580 for 200USD more you get what you pay for so that 200USD will pay off as better performance in propotion to the money or not far of as 590 is clocked at only 6xxMhz as default to keep temp and power in control.

How do you know there will only be 1000 made?
The card will be a standard 580 with more memory, the end.
I would assume that the PCB will be very similar to the Palait and Gainward models that are on the market now.  think about it, there aren't that many manufacturers of GPUs in the world, even if it is different, wait a month or so.....EK will have a block for it if there is a demand.
I'm anxious to see this card arrive in hopes it will drive down the cost and demand for the standard 580 so I can snatch up a couple.
As far as step-up goes, I can't see a step-upfrom a standard 580 being available, it's a 580 after all.  I'm sure if the quantity is enough, you'll be able to step up from a lesser card.

I was loyal to evga for 6 years before saying goodbye. They used to have such great service and support. Not the case anymore. My 790i ftw only got a year of bios updates before evga decided to stop supporting my mono. I wasn't able to run the revodrivex2 andhad requested a bios update. They refused to help. Shame on u evga! Just today I received two palit 580gtx 3072mb cards. Evga blows!

Disrespectful much?

Disrespect to a customer garners more disrepect. Why is it we must attack or shun someone who didn't have an easy experience with EVGA. Isn't that the point of these forums? To offload support to a free community?

You know I like EVGA  their customer service is first class in my opinion. With that out of the way.
From pure speculation and the rumor mill. I hear tell that there won,t be that many to begin with and the profit margin will be slim to non exitstent.
If EVGA wanted to be in a class all it,s own and be the "Belle of the Ball". They should just put all the 590,s in their allotment into the step up program sense this isn,t about money because there isn,t enough to worry about, just the cost of the step up program. It would then become a statement to their loyal fan base that we really do matter and not the bottom line almighty dollar  24/7.

3 DVI connectors would also prevent the card from being single slot if water cooled.
