Hopefully someone who works for EVGA can explain this. I love the ball bearing fans, but why would you use the same low quality chokes you used in the 700 series of cards? There were tons of complaints of coil whine, did those go unnoticed? If your accountants chose making $2-5 more per card over using quality components, that's very disappointing.

Right now it looks like Asus and MSI are the only choice for me. Your customer service and community is truly the best out there. I just wish your hardware had the same standard.

yep fan noise and coil whine was complained about in the bit tech review and the MSI and ASUS cards did not have that issue. I used to love EVGA card but to me they cut corners on many of the models. they also can occasionally be a bit quirky and need a bios update.

I don't get why either. If they used top end components and not low end ones, I'd pay quite a premium for cards. I'm in the market for a 970/980 sometime before Christmas. And I sure won't be buying anything with cheap components.

Well, since I already ordered a 970 SSC, can anyone tell me if coil whine is eligible for RMA?

If your card has audible coil whine, you can RMA it. They will charge you for a shipping fee however.

I thought reference cards were all made by the same manufacturer. Did that change with the 900 series?
