I feel weird now after the purchase. I currently have a 4GB EVGA GTX 960 FTW. But, a few minutes ago. I decided to purchase the GTX 1080. BUT. I just ordered it directly from Nvidia since it was in stock. Got tired of looking around for one today. This is my first ever flagship card I have purchased. While still in the Nvidia family. I feel like I turned my back on EVGA. I have only ever purchased EVGA cards since moving to Nvidia.

I don't know (Deleted for Language) I was thinking. I was originally going to get the EVGA 1080 FTW. But, I got impatient and so pumped to find one in stock. Along with it being my first high end card.

well if you fold for evga and earn $120 EVGA buck a year you can more easily afford these flagship cards every other year.

Got mine in today from Nvidia. I don't know if I got a dud or what. This thing runs hot as hell. Its not crashing or any thing. But, like as soon as I get into Witcher 3. Max settings with hairworks on. It reaches 82-83c. I even tried precision with aggressive fan profile. Dropped it down to only 80-81 at the lowest but still mostly stayed at 82-83c. This is also with a ZERO oc. Should I send it back for another? I am afraid the other one will do the same. Seeing reviews. I did notice peaks of 83c and as high as 85c. I thought no way could it be true. Nvidia showed 70c @2.1Ghz during their reveal show. That was complete crap. They had to of been running with vsync on. Not happy atm moment at all not knowing if I got a dud or this is normal. If it is fine. I don't oc or care any ways about that. Getting back to the card. I thought temps would slowly ramp up. But, nope. It instantly hits 80-83c while gaming or benchmarking.

Nvidia warranties don't transfer, so don't sell your card or you'll lose a good bit of money. Let us know what you think of it once you get to play with it.

Something is definitely wrong with these temps. Heaven is hitting 87-88c. I have a bad card or bad thermal paste job I suppose. It has to be the card right? Because I replaced my EVGA 4GB GTX 960 FTW with this card. I also added a brand new EVGA SuperNOVA P2 650w psu today in the machine as well.

The fan is spinning right? Have you tried removing the side of your case to see if temps go down? And yeah, 88C is way too hot for a 1080 considering it is a relatively low TDP.

So you were going to Nvidia where you won't get the quality support that EVGA is providing, you're paying more than the EVGA version and you get 88c while I'm running Witcher 3 with an EVGA card at around 60c. Smart move...

if you had bothered to look at single review and do any research at all then you would have known exactly what you were getting. how someone can order a top of the line video card with ridiculous amount of reviews and then act as ignorant as this is mind boggling. EVERY review shows the card goes right to 83 and that is what it was designed to do. at the reveal show, the card was using vsync and not running full load and also running the fan at 100%. next time you decide to drop over 700 bucks spend more time researching BEFORE you pull the trigger instead of needlessly (Deleted for language used) after the fact.

I seen the reviews. But, mine is hitting 88-89c. I don't have time to fire back. Its been a long day. Its boxed up again and will be sent back. I will just wait until the SC or FTW comes back in stock. I am coming back home to EVGA. Never again and lesson learned. Put my 960 FTW back in and it hits no more then 60-65c with aggressive fan profile in precision. Even then its way more quieter then that wood chipper I received using aggressive fan profile.

I've been an EVGA customer since the geforce2 ultra.. But this time around the very limited, high demand, 1080 availability has tempted me to buy directly from Nvidia. Three times now the product was available on the Nvidia shop page, but of course EVGA was sold out. All I know is I have two almost completed rigs here waiting for video cards I cant buy because they are always sold out.. Perhaps this time around I should reward Nvidia. I may feel differently tomorrow..

I thought all the FE versions ran hot by default. The reviews said the fan profile was set to prefer silence over temperature. If you give the FE a better fan curve it should run cooler. Of course, the third party coolers are much better.

EVGA is my first choice but Zotac has been good for me so far. The cheapest 980ti cards available but overclock just as good as classifieds. Its going to be a tough decision when the new 1080 ti cards come out. I hope EVGA does a better job with their servers so you can actually get on site.

I have 2 FE Editions and have not seen any where near the 80 deg mark. At stock they run around 60 deg which is what I am accustomed to seeing in reviews. When I am OC or running heavy loads I use an aggressive fan curve and still see around 60 deg. Something is wrong with that card.

The GTX 1080 FE has a max temperature of 94c so 82-83c is perfectly fine. Temperatures may vary depending on ambient room temps, airflow in the chasis, overclocking components, etc. We are trying our best to replenish stock as fast as we can. The best option is to sign up for Auto-Notify and you will receive an email when more stock is available for purchase or pre-order.

I went back and watched the pcper interview with Tom Peterson and them showing the 1080. I noticed how their card gradually climbs up extremely slow from 40c on up. The second you put a load on mine. It would shoot straight to 83c and climb. Then when I realized it was running at 88-89c. I took my panel off to see if it would improve. Nope. It was so hot to the touch. The card itself. You could fry an egg on it and could burn you. Nvidia themselves seem to be great with customer service. I was offered a RMA for another new one with pre paid shipping label. Or a full refund with pre paid shipping label as well. I chose that and will now wait for EVGA stock to get steady. The chances of getting another bad card is slim to none I know. But, it turned me off and I don't want to take that chance again. Rather I go with the EVGA SC or FTW version. Not sure yet. Probably the FTW as I have been very pleased with my current card that is back in which is the 4GB EVGA GTX 960 FTW. Side note. Loving my new EVGA SuperNOVA P2 650w psu I installed as well yesterday. Fantastic psu and the eco feature is nice. Which reminds me I need to register it now!

MikeBGeyer I have 2 FE Editions and have not seen any where near the 80 deg mark. At stock they run around 60 deg which is what I am accustomed to seeing in reviews. When I am OC or running heavy loads I use an aggressive fan curve and still see around 60 deg. Something is wrong with that card.
Lol I guess I shouldn't tell you that my experience is the same as Mike's. I suppose I am just seeing things. :)
Would you mind posting some screen shots of GPU-z and either Precision or Afterburner? Which games are you on?

he is not going to post anything to back up his claims because what he claims is not possible. he will either show a shot that is not under full load or a game/bench that has been running for only few seconds or has custom fan curve. anyone that keeps up with tech knows damn well that the FE card goes to 83 C at stock fan settings just like the reference 980 ti and 780 ti. the reference 980 was at 80 C.

Well I can post some shots but it will be with a custom fan curve. I will try later tonight if I can but I am going to enjoy father's day with my wife and kids first.
I guess even if I do I will be discredited but that is not my problem.
Peace and Happy Father's dayday to all you father's out there.
